"For about 90 minutes, the Kentucky faithful were a bit nervous with the Fox injury. He tweaked his right ankle while making a drive to the hoop. Not long after that, he was in a walking boot. We now know it was just a precaution. Coach John Calipari said afterward that Fox's ankle showed no signs of swelling and that the injury might have been a "stinger."

Heck, even during Derek Willis' awesome slam, you saw Fox rise up and cheer. He didn't seem to be too bothered or in pain.

So it's likely nothing too big, but at this point we're not totally certain Fox will play in Kentucky's next game Tuesday at Tennessee."

Guys, I take full responsibility for this travesty. 2 minutes before the "incident" my mother asks what i thought to be an innocent question "Who do you think would matter the most if they went down with an injury?" Without thinking I said "No, question, Fox. He is the most important piece. If we dont have him we perform terrible on offense."

2 minutes later I looked at her and she looked back at me and said "What?... I didnt do anything!"

Im certainly glad its not a serious injury but the jury is out on my mother...

At least you didn't lie. I am a big briscoe fan but if Cal don't start Hawkins at point we are in trouble Tuesday because briscoe struggled getting the offense together

As soon as he came back to the bench for the 1st time, he sat down next to SKJ or somebody and you saw them ask him a question...I assume they asked if he was ok and she shook his head like it was no big deal at all.

The CBS article is just basing it off Cal's postgame quotes that have already been reported. No new information here.

I also noticed the exchange that JPScott alluded to and considering that and his demeanor on the bench when he came back out, I feel pretty confident he''ll be fine.

This CBSSports piece on Fox was just based on Cal's statement that there was no swelling and that it was possible stinger. I haven't seen any updates this morning on how he is walking, etc.

In Coach Cal's Post-Game Show he said that Fox's ankle injury was like a stinger and that there was NO Swelling in the ankle. In the NCAA everytime there is an ankle injury everyone wears the boots to help the stability of the ankle and they always use crutches. So it didnt surprise me when I saw Fox after halftime with the boots and crutches. Hopefully he will be back for the Tenn. game Tuesday night. If not, for sure for the Kansas game next Saturday at Rupp.

I would not be surprised if he could have come back in but Cal wanted to see how they responded without him while also not chancing it.

Not trying to hijack a thread but whats that about the SC assistant coach saying something during the game that had the ref talking to Coach Martin about? Anyone know?

Also not hijacking the thread, but did anyone else see the ref cover his mouth while talking to Frank Martin prior to them cutting it to four?

Yes, I did. It's possible he was doing that because he was telling him what he heard an assistant say and didn't want it to be picked up by the cameras. I believe the assistant was shown following that saying "I can't believe he heard that".

He did turn to the assistant right afterwards. Thanks for clarifying. Silents and letitrain.

I was watching and I never seen a ref cover his mouth before.

I didn't think it was serious. It didn't look bad when it happened or when he went out. Just precautionary, but he could've come back in and played.

In Cals interview he said something hit his ankle? What I saw was he rolled it. Did I miss something?

It seemed pretty clear that he rolled it,thought he stepped on someone's foot at first but don't think that happened after seeing the replay.Cal is usually non specific about injuries and doesn't spend much time talking about them or give detailed info.

Let's all hope and pray that he isn't walking slow now. If so, we are in BIG trouble.

You and your mother should be required to watch the remainder of the games this season on an old 12 inch black and white television as punishment.

The same Briscoe that has successfully filled in at point when Fox was either in foul trouble or resting all season vs a very good schedule is now not capable of filling in for him at Tn? Briscoe got rattled and settled down and played OK in the second half. Hawkins ran point as much as he did because of foul trouble. And Cal couldn't let Briscoe off of Thornton. Hawkins played well and the team did OK. Got to remember there is a game plan and Briscoe had to adjust. I'm betting Hawk ran SC offense in scrimmages. Plus he is a senior and knows the offense backwards and forwards. Briscoe is still a soph and Tyler Ulis is the exception not the rule on maturity for soph. Give me the more talented Briscoe at PG vs Tn where Briscoe is prepared to attack UT offense from practice so he is the better choice for Tn

Fox is a piece we can't be without but I honestly do not understand all the anguish over this. He tweeked his ankle, he didn't even hobble on it initially after he came down. It was precautionary, nothing more. All this I hope he sits on Tuesday so he will be ready Friday nonsense. If he is ready for tueday he will play, simple as that. Heck, Mitchell rolled his ankle in their win over Clemson, had to be attended to on the floor, was helped off and came back in and played afterwards and then played yesterday's game with no ill effects.

Seems like it was precautionary the way he changed shoes and was testing it prior to the boot.

It's a wonder that doesn't happen way more often. A lot of injuries occur without contact. I've seen guys totally mess up their knees just making a regular basketball move untouched.
