I have no idea why we even play the anthem before games, but whatever.

They stood, didn't kneel for some misguided BS. OK with me.

And if you disrespect the flag....kiss my butt.

Well I suppose they could of kneeled? at least they stood, leave them be btw my husband is a gulf war vet, and as he said, he has fought for this country and said he did so to defend ALL not just ones who follows rules...he also said he found no disrespect in them standing, for most part, they had arms behind them and to most military and vets that is good enough since they have never served

I was at the game, I had a beer in one hand and the other at my side. I also yelled in enthusiasm at the end because the girl who sang it had an absolutely beautiful rendition. Sorry if my hand positioning was disrespectful.

Noo I don't disagree with you brother I'd probably have done the same...I was just saying how the snowflakes would look at it

If you feel they should put their hand on their heart or behind their back... then try to get it out there in a positive way of informing others/players. But the way this is going is some people are just vilifying our team and players for this silly reason. Especially when I've seen the same from most other teams during the anthem. I bet its more common for players not to cover their heart than it is for them to do that or put their hands behind their back.

I am by no means criticizing our players for their actions during the NA. My only point is that on a nationally televised game, with millions of viewers, and with MSU lined up on the court. I thought it looked unusual to have them stand on the sidelines and not across from MSU.....such as you see in most major sporting events is all. Not sure if this is typical in a "normal" game that may not be a national broadcast.

After the last few posts, I feel compelled to mention that I have no particular objection to how the team conducted themselves. In my opinion, that is a matter for John Calipari and University Of Kentucky to evaluate. Those players are stewards for Cal and UK and as such, evaluation of their conduct is completely at the whim of UK and coaches. Its a basketball team, not a military unit. If I ever have a problem with the team conduct, I'll take it up with UK as I would encourage anyone else to do. I won't discuss it with a bunch of faceless monikers on the internet.

My remarks are directed at those that profess to regard symbols of our nation disrespectfully, marginalizing them or shuttling them off to irrelevance. History is filled with examples of tragedy of nations and people that have done that. That's not a get off my grass attitude on my part or others. That's a "I really like not getting pulled out of my house and shot in the middle of the night" attitude on my part. You can trace that security and the many other things we enjoy as citizens back to faith and respect for symbols and doctrine of our country. Lose the faith and repect, eventually it all starts to crumble.

Well, you do realize you've insulted half the US voting population, most of which voted against her instead of for the other guy. She insulted half the US voting population too.

Peas in a pod.

actually when you look at the number of democrats who didn't vote added to the republicans and independants who didn't vote it comes out to somewhere around 30% of the citizens who actually voted for trump. I don't think Hillary was an ideal candidate and the DNC is to blame for the loss, but this country may have cut it's own nose off to spite it's face. Time will tell, but the list of jokers he is considering for his cabinet does not make me optimistic.

Bam is really feeling it. I don't really see any disrespect going on here.

Most annoying and overblown topic in many a year, if'n you ask me. Just another excuse for people to display their own righteous indignation over other people's behavior. Personally, I don't really care who stands, who kneels, who sings along, who remains silent, where their hand placement is, etc. I could not care less if someone else feels like they're more patriotic than me based on how they act during the anthem. Live your own life. Geez!

Which translates to thirty percent that actually voted to Hilary. I don't think you have pointed anything to do with how poor Trump or Clinton were as a candidate. You have pointed out how much apathy exists in the US for the political system. This is a point well made and let me use that. Let's say Trump is the devil incarnate (laugh) that Hollywood, media and liberals make him out to be. Basically you've proven that 40%, a majority in this case, just don't care cause they didn't vote against him. Combined with the 30% that vote for him, you've got an overwhelming majority that basically are cool with or don't care what he does. See what marginalizing the symbols of the nation can do?

Now, I hate to break it to you, but voter turnout was pretty darn good this election. Trump will spur people to action, for or against. I see that as a good thing.

Now we're WAY off topic. I think I've made it clear that I am a huge patriot and I place a lot of stock in the symbols of our democracy. But I'm here to discuss basketball. I support our kids. Cal and UK will motivate them to represent the school the way they want the school represented. Regarding the politics, I'm done. Gonna cost somebody some beer to get anymore out of me on that.
