He can hurt you in so many ways and lateral defensive quickness is sweet to watch.

i'm sure some nights it willbe ugly. i can see him turning it over a bit if he tries to drive it. but the kid plays hard all the time. fights for everything. good things tend to happen when you play like that!

He has a Brandon Ingram type game, moves like him too, very good looking prospect, it will be hard to keep him out of the starting lineup once he learns the system.

Him and Brandon Ingrim have very little in common besides body type. Ingram is a scorer while Gabriel is a high motor defensive player and his offensive game is limited rn.

He doesn't need to score right now, but who's to say he can't be a scorer before he leaves, he has the potential if he wants to be a scorer.

Kid can D up with the best , Can board , can shoot and even has a little handle . Like I said for months now that kid will be a top 10 pick this year. If any of the freshmen come back it will have to be SKJ .

Cane has pumped WG's shot for awhile, I totally disagreed, I saw him in person in HS and it wasnt close to what we witnessed tonight.

That said, I see no way the guy is a top 10 pick, but if he is then we are going to be really good.

Gabriel will be a top 10 pick after this season IMO so he ain't .I guess if he got injured or something or hit a wall but I doubt it . SKJ will for sure. Gabriel is a freak with his shot and athletic ability and he plays D like a center . My favorite player not named Briscoe.

When I saw him in HS he had it so I don't know . He was still learning ( and is still learning) what a good shot is but the kid has always had a nice stroke . Mind you doubt he shoots better then 34% or so from 3 due to taking some bad shots but he will be a 40% for his career.

Top 10 pick....yep he overboard has begun
Just watch. I mean he might end up going 12th or something but if Lyles is a lotto pick and Skal a top 25 pick Gabriel is a top 10ish pick. NBAdraft.net ( though I hate the site) has him going 10th in the 18 draft but the point is the same . He is a lotto pick . I think he will surpise the world like he has suprised UK fans and move on up.

A few things that might keep Gabriel at UK an extra year.

He was a late bloomer, so he didn't have any realistic expectations of a pro career until last summer. A lot of the guys UK recruits have been known quantities since they were 15 years old. Gabriel is not one of those.

And from everything I've read, Gabriel is the type of kid who would be attending college whether he was a basketball player or not. We all know that's not always the case with D1 athletes. Players like that are more likely to stick around, even if they don't have to.

This doesn't mean I think he'll be back for sure, but I do think his background makes him less likely to rush out the door at the first opportunity. If he's top 10, yeah, he's probably gone, but if he's not, I think there's a better chance than normal of him returning.

Gabriel has the size, quickness and motor to be special!

I'd like to see a little more of him before I make a judgement on his shot.

I remember Eric Daniels' first several shots as a Wildcat, and you'd have thought he was gonna be the next Louie Dampier.

I do believe that Gabriel can be a lottery pick, but it may take an extra year to get there as his ball skills are a little raw.

I personally think that SKJ has a better chance of getting drafted after THIS season than Gabriel.

They both seem to be much better than I had expected them to be...

and as a result...not sure how many minutes humphries will actually get. if your pool of big men is bam, wg, skj, willis, and humphries...hump maybe #5 in that group.

I have thought all along that this kid would be the "wildcard."

Love how he does everything with a smile on his face!

First thing I said after the 1st half is he would be a lottery pick. Say all you want about the competition and his shot, but you have to remember the nba drafts on potential most of the time, and he has a ton of it.

I don't know how it will play out this season but it brought a smile to my face just reading through the list you posted. We have so much depth in the frontcourt this season compared to last year and some great guards to go with them. Good experienced leadership added to the mix could mean a very special season this year. I'm very excited after seeing the guys last night, even if it was just an exhibition game.

Yeah, he has always been looked at as a real specimen with some skill... not sure why he got this "won't contribute this year" label.

Not sure I have read that.

Always expected to contribute in many ways except for being a major scorer.

See, I felt like he was getting a bit forgotten by many fans (including non-UK fans.) Kid has length and bounce and all of the physical tools, and was starting to develop an outside game... I felt like he was getting a bit forgotten, and getting a lot of "Still a year away from contributing" talk. Could be wrong.

he was too heavily compared to the other elites I think
His attitude kind of reminds me of Ulis - he will work his *** off and he'll prove he's better than most think
