I personally wouldn't but I think Willis starts over Gabriel so there is a little more experience on the floor.
I would put Willis in for Gabriel to begin the season. I think Calipari will do the same .
I think that's the best defensive lineup, the best rebounding lineup and the most talented group of five guys on the team, so it won't surprise me at all if that's what Cal goes with.
WG needs run to be a force in March. Willis can still get twenty plus minutes off the bench. I'd roll with that lineup with an eye towards March.
Willis could be the best 6th man in the country. Darius Miller all over again.
Gabriel wouldn't be in my top 9...Willis will start SKJ will play before WG

Yep. Don't think scoring will be an issue, so having a defender and rebounder like Gabriel is essential IMO.
1st Exhibition game starting line ups is state of affairs mixed with experimentation. Starting means nothing right now but displays the foundation of the team.
The starting five in the exhibition actually tends to be the starting five by regular season unless someone gets hurt or someone just steps their game up tremendously
Unless Cal tries experimenting first during exhibition games? That would be different. Name the #1 CB coach in the USA to try something different.
For some reason I thought the game was last night. I was super bummed out. The ever optimist wife said "you still have it to look forward to"..I don't give her enough credit. UK wives are the best.

I wish you were wrong but, like previous Cal teams, I think you are right. I get cold chills hearing a recruit is a "slasher". Seems to mean a great athlete, great defender but can't shoot a lick.

Never been married but I have 3 ex's who root savagely for UK now. All three are awesome ladies but all of them have "stolen" UK hoodies from me lol
The consensus is apparently that four of the starting positions are locked in for obvious reasons. There are probably 4 or 5 other players that would be starting at almost any other program in the country. Any one of them could make a valid argument why they should get the start at UK.

LOL Gabriel wouldn't be in your top 9? Ok buddy. Maybe the dumbest line that has been written on this board ever. Willis or Gabriel will always be the 5th starter as those 6 are the best players on this team. The way Gabriel defends and rebounds is insane and his offense is oozing with potential.
I think this would be the case as well.We don't see practice every day but considering what we have seen and heard Gabriel might be third on the list to start in one position that seems to be open,if he is really in a position to be the starter then we are maybe scary good at this point.
It's sometimes good to bring a shooter off the bench.
That's how Cal did it with Lamb during his Freshman year, IIRC.

We have no idea who is practicing the best on a daily basis. That is how Coach Cal decides who is going to start and how much playing time they will get. Gabriel may be killing it in practice and he will be rewarded for that. I don't really care who starts, it is just kind of an ego thing anyway since those playing great defense and giving the best effort will earn their time on the floor.
