Just at a glance at their names had zero clue who the Pelicans starting back court were. I'm pretty sure Kentucky's is better than theirs.

From the USA Today:

33 college football coaches have buyouts if at least $8 million. Jimbo Fisher leads the way with a buyout of $33 million. And Dana Holgorsen is the 37th highest paid coach at around $3 million.

Yikes.

I'm pretty damn confident any of the usually accepted "good" or "regular" GYERO posters could be top tier ADs.

At some point you have to wake up and realize that ADs are essentially powerless when negotiating coaching contracts. Have been for a while now, actually.

Pretty sure it works like this.....

"Oh, hey, Jimmy Sexton! Good to hear from you. Yeah, just send me over the most ridiculous, one sided offer imaginable and I'll double it, add two more years, and then sign that puppy. After adding a huge raise for the assistants, of course. It's been a pleasure doing business with you once again. K thanks!"

I know everyone is against it and everything, but the ridiculous salaries these football coaches are getting now just really goes to show how ridiculous the whole "student-athlete" mantra is and really opens up discussion about paying some of these football and basketball players. Really don't see how its fair for some dumbass like Charlie Weiss gets 50 million dollars on the backs of some Notre Dame football players that might not have made it pro and are working a desk job for 50K right now. They really should deserve a small piece of the pie for making the school and the coach millions upon millions of dollars.

The quality level of play and the way the game is being played are at darn near all time highs in the NBA, Imo. The depth of good to great players right now has to do with this along with the pass perimeter oriented, emphasis on shooting and spacing style of play.

Bonzo's take was that of a lazy man. THEY DON'T PLAY DEFENSE!1THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR TEAM!1

There's a reason tv ratings are at an all time high and attendance is way up.

Love college basketball but the NBA is a far superior product and much purer. No dry humping smack an arm defense, no gimmicky junk zones. The world's best players and arguably best athletes making unbelievable plays. If you attend a NBA game in person you'll be blown away how much in sync team's are and how much of a flow there is to their offense.

I just hate that the top of the league is so inordinately dominant. There's absolutely no competitive balance. Take a team like the Celtics, with a deep, versatile roster, and an outstanding young coach. In MLB, that team is poised to win the World Series. In the NBA, they're pumped to win 49 games and get destroyed in the playoffs.

The league is loaded with former Cats now, and unfortunately none of them will have any legitimate impact on the title. That sucks.

- Just get me to a Game 7. That's all I care about this World Series.

- I don't see how any UK fan can completely ignore the NBA at this point. It's a UK Show. Just on Instagram this morning, I saw clips from Towns, WCS, MKG and Davis. Besides the complete upper tier storylines (Golden State, LeBron, Westbrook, Spurs, etc), we own the league. Our guys are some of the most exciting in the league.

- Davis [laughing] 50/16/5/7/4 WTF?

- MKG had a helluva night, too.

- I'm really going to miss working downtown, especially during the holidays. Won't miss the $80/month to park, though.

- I know the reason- being swamped with the TV show- but looking forward to the return of Jones' podcast.

- Monk will be an interesting NBA prospect case study. He's small for a 2G at 6'3"- plus, his wingspan is mediocre at best, 6'3.5". BUT he has NBA freak athleticism and I really believe he'll show he's good shooter this year. I think with better teammates and shot selection, he'll be similar to Brandon Knight in that department- around 37% or so. I've been impressed with his feel for the game, so maybe he'll be a combo at the next level.

- What does everyone think about these teams?

* UNC- lost easily their best two players and replaced them with almost nothing; Berry is solid but not a star; Jackson has a little pre-senior year Darius Miller in him; Meeks and Hicks are solid but not great; Pinson can't shoot and is now out with a foot injury. I just don't see a title contender here.

* Xavier- LOVE Blueitt and Sumner and have to think they'll be even better this year; assume Davis will be back off suspension at some point so the guards are ridic; who do they inside? The Big East is led by a couple of doughnuts this year.

* Indiana- I actually think this squad is a tad underrated; Johnson may not be as good as Yogi but I think he better compliments Blackmon; Bryant is a beast; And I love Anunoby on both ends.

* Gonzaga- the big Pole is back to anchor the middle; they bring in two stud transfers in Jonathan Williams and Nigel Williams-Goss; Perkins is a solid PG; And they always have a couple Canadians emerge.

Basketball at pretty much any level is dominated by the very top tier. College basketball, NBA, little league. It doesn't matter. Just the way a game with only 5 players per side and tons of possessions works. Fewer players to mitigate the talent of a single superstar and more possessions to even out most anomalies.

NFL sucks because it is too balanced and all games turn out roughly the same.

NBA sucks because it is too top heavy and lacks competitive balance.

MLB is perfect because occasionally a team will come out of nowhere and win the championship.

You dont really need to follow all the NBA games, you just need to follow Scott Charlton on twitter. I dont know what that guy does with the rest of his life, but his commitment to video clips of UK guys, in nearly real time, is admirable to say the least. I dont have many *must follows* but he would definitely be one.

The Cubs have top heavy salaries for some key veteran free agents- but the finding of young position players in the early salary years is pretty eye opening...
Kris Bryant (NL MVP) $652k
Javy Baez $521k
Kyle Schwarber $522k
Addison Russell $527k
Wilson Contreras $299k
Mike Montgomery $211k
CJ Edwards$293k

Heyward $21.6M:(

-Yoga pants are so hit or miss and often it defies normal rules.

-Spilled coffee all over myself this morning. Just make two trips, Anth. No reason to try and carry everything in one swoop.

-Picked Naked Gun over the WS last night. Excellent call.

-NBA Playoffs are excellent. The regular season is trash.

-College needs to adopt the NBA rules though. 4 quarters, jump ball, extended 3pt line, D 3 seconds, 25 sec shot clock, 8 steps of the bounce, less TOs. Realy ridiculous this hasn't happened yet. Why is the prep league playing a different game?

-ADs in power conference basically have monopoly money and the sharks on the other side negotiating for the coaches know. Not only are they outwitted they don't have bargaining power. If they don't pay him and he leaves, screwed. If they do and we fire him, dumbass. Not defending 13M because it seems awful.

Agent: "Oh, you don't want to pay my dude and give him a buyout?"
ESPN REPORTING: Mark Stoops is a major candidate for the Penn State job.
BBN: "******* Milk toast sucks... pay the man. This is another Guy Morris blunder!!! No commitment to the football program!! FAAAR Milk toast."
Milk Toast: "How's 4 million and 13 million buyout sound?"
Agent :pimp:

-Yes, the players deserve more of a cut.

-NOTHING on the agenda for the weekend and I couldn't be happier. Hang with the little dude. Paint one window upstairs. Hit the bike up. Gambol and CFB. Lets. get. it.

That and players collude now to create super teams, thus ensuring only 3-4 teams have a shot. Even if all their opponents play fantastic defense!1!!1

Can I put you down for half a dozen NBA games this year Rich, since the flow and synchronicity is a must-see live?

Thoughts on Amazon Echo? We have full house audio so I would think the Dot would be fine. Is that accurate?

Even before this, only a handful of teams ever won. From 1980-2016 5 teams have accounted for 31 of the 37 championships. We're a MJ retirement, Lebron choke, and a great 76ers team away from that number being 35/37, with the two outliers being the past two seasons.

Basketball is dominated by the top tier. It's not new at all

Hence why I don't care for the league.

As pti noted, it's great that AD / KAT / Ulis and the rest of our departed wildcat friends are lighting up the league. None of them have a shot at reaching the conference finals tho.

I actually have been to several NBA games. Granted, it's just the Pelicans, but they're pretty awful. The product on the court is fantastic, but the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. College is infinitely better in that regard.

Was in Boston during the Pitino/Walker/Mercer/McCarty years. Went to a ton of games. Thought it would be great watching former great Wildcats...and playing for the historic Celtics no less!!! Yeah, it was pretty much terrible. Tickets were expensive...atmosphere sucked...team was average to below average.

I don't want to hear the quality of play ******** for why more college fans need to watch more NBA. You know what- Beethoven is a higher quality of music than Kendrick Lamar or Sturgill Simpson, but that doesn't mean most of you enjoy it more. Why don't you simpletons blare Mozart at the tailgate???? There are many reasons I like college basketball more. Stop trying to sell me on the NBA.

That said, I continue to, and always have, enjoy the highlights and conversation about the league- especially with all the UK dudes.

Tossing in an irrelevant reference to the amount of sex you were having at a particular moment in your life really does paint a colorful picture. Life's rich pageant and whatnot.

MLB is perfect except the sport itself actually sucks complete *** and is boring as hell to watch.

NBA sucks because the playoffs take 5 months.

NFL sucks because games take 5 hours, there is too much exposure, and the whole replay rule where at least 20 minutes of every game is spent agonizing on whether or not the tip of the ball hit the ground while the player was turning or whatever stupid ****.

I mean you can say something bad about any sport, but I like the NBA finals, college football, and obviously I love college basketball. But it speaks volumes about how little college basketball I watch outside of UK during the regular season.

I watched that live the other night because Im a degenerate gambler, I watch pretty much all of the WSOP because Im a closet big game card playing junkie that likes to hit the poker room at the casina and the occassional big money game at a nearby country club, and that Kousoff dude deserved to be punched in the face. He did that **** the entire tournament and every single day got into it with everyone at the table. Ive never seen anyone run their mouth like that, not even BBDK could keep up with that dudes mouth.
