Yeah, a black suit to work, especially somewhere like Wall Street makes you look like a valet.
I've always heard that a black suit is appropriate for a black tie optional wedding or a funeral. That's it. The rest of the time, go with gray or navy.

Personally, I don't care what anyone wears to weddings, but you always have to watch out for those fashion-obsessed mean boys who DO notice what you're wearing and will make your life HELL all night if you wear something that doesn't fit THEIR sense of decorum. Mean Boys are everywhere and they care a lot about what you're wearing.
Things could have changed since I lived there for 3.5 years......but I doubt it. Not to mention black suits dominate the financial channels.
You must be confusing black with dark navy or dark charcoal. Not too many people who know how to dress wear black suits, certainly not with any kind of frequency.
No they don't. Charcoal and navy blue dominate. Black suits have no place in business. Too formal.
