Hey guys, I know Big Blue Madness Campout is just around the corner in a couple of weeks and was looking for some info and tips. This is our first year actually coming to camp. Every other year we used ticketmaster but wanted the experience this year. We are coming from a pretty long distance and want to be able to get the best possible spot we can. What are some tips and pointers from all you experienced Tent City Members? I know it says no camping until 5am on the 28th, but do people line up even before then to have the best straight on shot to take off from? Where is the absolute best spot located to put your tent? And how do you mark your spot, just hold it or first to get it actually up? Im sure this sounds stupid but im trying to get a game plan of what to do. It seems pretty intense to be honest from the videos I have seen. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

No worries. Makes sense since you're coming a long distance.
1. Bring your own grill (no gas is allowed, so you'll have to start a fire)
2. Alcohol is okay on Big Blue Campground
3. Weapons are allowed, just make sure you have them concealed
4. Don't start where everyone starts. Go to the backside to get a spot.
5. Best spot is the big tree near the sidewalk

Im pumped and cant wait for it but im still not understanding how you get the spots and the order they go in. Like is it just a single file line of tents and the person who is first the one under the tree? And your spot determines the quality of your seats right? And what do you mean when you say dont start wherever everyone else does? There is more ways to get to the tree and is it marked the direction of which side the line goes? Where is the least congested place to start? I know you all probably think im dumb for asking all this, but when you are traveling from 19 hours away you kind of want to know what to do and how everything really works because you may not get this opportunity to do so ever again.
Basically there will be 2 rows around the building (there are other spots but these are the preferred spots). The closer you are to the building (the inside row) and the closer to the front door, the better the spot. I would say to get there no later than midnight if possible. As far as how to claim the spot, you have to get your tent's "footprint" laid out as quick as possible. The key is to get the tent spread out and staked down. After this, you can take your time actually setting it up. If you don't get it staked down, people will be rude and try to push your tent out of the way and even put theirs under yours and stake theirs down. Good luck. I will warn you though that it is pretty ugly and people become animals so be prepared.

I have been many of times.

If you're able to set your tent up at 5AM on the Wednesday & hope to get a good spot, I would suggest getting there on Tuesday afternoon. That's been the case for us.

If you get there at midnight or later, you can be around two, three deep in line which means you aren't in full control of the spot you want.. and it becomes more luck, depending on the size of your tent

Before, you used to run across the road and set your tent down which created a lot of chaos but also made it to where faster people could beat you to a spot.. (Putting less emphasis on how deep in line you were) Now, they move you across the road in about 15 min increments to the point that you're to the sidewalk.. This means that if you can be in the front of the line (meaning first line of people, think 2 or 3 deep) you have the best chance of shielding others off bc the run across is so much shorter like 5 steps...& you don't have to worry about others getting in your way.

Hopefully this makes sense ..

I would target rows 1-4 on either side (1-2 can be very chaotic but obviously can be rewarded if you get your tent down risk/reward.. 3-4 are not easy but you can sometimes forgo some traffic bc of everyone going for the first 2 rows).. Lines will be on the grass that show you where your tent must sit.

Doesnt matter which side you choose.. Left or right. Right side from the front door will start at 1 and so will the left
