Anyone else nervous about our next class?

The combination of a lack of elite guards, in this next class, and the fact that we are going to lose all of our guards to the draft has me worried. We absolutely have to sign one of Young, or Green. If we dont land Diallo, who will play the 2? Our frontline should still be fairly solid, with Humphries, Wynyard, SKJ, and probably Gabriel back. Someone talk some sense into me.

I'm always a little nervous, but that has more to do with losing everyone at once and having to re-stock the entire roster.

I'm sure that we'll end up with a great class though...

Would it help if we were nervous?

Calipari has been able to cobble together teams year after year. In most years we are competing with the best of the best in college basketball. So I'm not terribly worried. If we aren't a top-25 team in 2018..... then big deal, we'll come back in 2019 and be great again.

My worry is when it's just a weak class in general...

There have been a few years when the "best of the best" coming out of H.S. isn't good enough to create a top 10 team in college.

2017 class is definitely weaker than the 2016 class.

all i want is a good core, many of which (4 or 5) will be 2 year players so we can load up again in 2018 with a solid mix of freshman and soph to have a team with talent and depth.

not very concerned about the results for 2017

Being nervous is a waste of time. Cal will put together the best team he can.

If they perform to the best of their abilities, I'll have fun watching them.

Never nervous about recruiting. I use to be when cal first got here and then I realized that was just stupid.

Not worried in the slightest. Cal saying he was only recruiting 8 or 9 guys has made me even more confident.

If even three of those four return, we are in excellent shape inside with the addition of only one 2017 front court man. I think we can sign two.

I haven't really followed recruiting much since the wiggins class. I used to follow it tightly. With Cal it is what it is. If it's a weak class we will be weaker. We don't have Enough returnees typically to make up the slack. I wait and see the product on the floor.

can't be nervous about two things at once - it's too draining
right now, excited and nervous about the upcoming season.
Let's see if there is going to be a REASON to be overly nervous before we start being so

Not sure why people expect Gabriel and SKJ back. Once scouts see them play and work out at the combine, no chance they don't jump. Don't get your hopes up.

Excellent points, Bev. But, we do this sort of worrying or looking ahead all the time, just what we spoiled UK fans have become under Cal's tenure. But, I'm with you, let's concern ourselves with worry and excitement about the upcoming season. Don't want to develop ulcers too soon.

oh, I'm sure they'll declare and at least be evaluated and get good feedback. I'm glad they'll have the opportunity to do so, if they so choose.

Let's assume the worst: just outside the top3 in class rankings..maybe 4 or 5th ranked class.

Would it be the worst thing in the world? To have one or two 5*s and a bunch of 4*s.. some of which who will return for a 2nd or 3rd year? Come back strong in recruiting the following year (or again, top5 at worst), and you set yourself up for a team with tons of talent and tons of experience, with a good mix of stars and role players..

Perhaps but I think there's a good chance we keep one of SKJ/Gabriel, just like KU lost Diallo but kept Bragg. Time will tell.

IF SKJ jumps for the NBA.. then I'll be pretty content as we will have achieved another Final4 (at least).

Another reason I love Gabriel.. he's the perfect player to help a college team really well with motor and defense, but his offensive skills mean he's still 2-3 years from the league. Unless he really surprises us, I can't see him bolting after a year.

It's also going to be quite hard to show case your talents on Kentucky, when Bam, Monk and Fox are all starting. Far from ball hogs or anything, but these guys are living highlight reels..

Way too excited about this years team to be stressing or even thinking about the team after it.

I'm not worried, just curious of how it will turn out.

The only position that I am even remotely concerned about is PG, mainly because there aren't many good ones in this class. If we miss on Young, I just wonder what we will do.

If we win it all this year I would except a bcg like season. I don't worry too much about recruiting with cal here. Reading dukes board they have convinced themselves they will get bamba as well which is complete bs

Actually, Duke fans are starting to wonder about Bamba.

Like I said before, I don't think you're a bad poster not so I dislike you for your loyalties for duke. I know you post on the main board as well, but check out the duke rivals board. The guy who started the thread believes there is a 93% chance(no idea how the hell he came up with that number) that bamba goes to the dark side

Winning #9 this season would make the class a moot point to some degree, even at UK.
BUT if we dont win #9...

In the end, I think Bamba will end up at UK.

Cal has a great track record with that type of player.

Plus, Duke will have Carter and most likely Bolden inside. Not enough room for Bamba.

Now if Bolden leaves early and both Humphries and SKJ are returning, then that might flip the script.

I guess skal and Orton didn't teach anyone a lesson . You don't have to play your way into the first round. You just have to show the scouts your potential. So with that in mind, yes Gabriel and SKJ can both be first rounders and give us next to nothing in terms of production

Not saying they will but it can happen. Don't assume it would mean a great season. Skal bolted and we lost in the second round

The 93 percent is the 247 crystal ball percentage.

There is a lot of positivity about Wendell Carter. From what I've seen, just in the last few days/weeks, people feel that Duke is maybe losing a little bit of ground with Bamba, who was a "sure thing" type of recruit to a lot of Duke fans for a long time.
