The only way to know for sure is to cut him in half and count the rings.
lebron looks about 45 right now...making him about 33 when he was drafted...

not the NBA's fault that whatever highscool/prep academy he played at 2 years ago was duped...hell they probably knew and didn't care either...i imagine that a lot of personal information and eligibility criteria are fudged at the top levels of prep factories...

Are you people kidding? The ages between 19-24 are INCREDIBLY important to the NBA. Around 24 you're probably mostly what you're going to be physically, coordination wise, etc. At 19 there's still a large potential for growth. That's the ages superstars emerge: if you aren't one by then, you probably aren't going to be ever. Dropping 10 million to develop a 19 year old who has 4-5 years to gain weight, hone skills, and still be in his early 20s is a great deal for a NBA team. Doing the same for a 24 year old who'll be pushing 30 at the end of the process is not a good deal for a NBA team. Anyone who doesn't understand this should be barred from making NBA draft comments forever.
It's a huge deal to NBA teams. Ever since the league starting looking at analytics teams have favored younger players. A 22 year-old who plays on the same level as 17 year olds does not project well into the future. That's why most teams like Jamal Murray over Buddy Heild. They are basically the same player except that Murray is 3 years younger, so more room to grow and develop.
Just found this thread after being under a rock for 2 weeks because of work. Not understanding the difference in age from 19 to 23 is like looking at Anthony Davis now and before he got to Kentucky. Guys like maker need time to add meat to their bodies as they mature. He's matured. His ability to add weight over time has been cut. Davis went from a generous 180lbs before UK to a legit 235 or 240. Took years but it happened. Maker is still maybe 150lbs if he's lucky. And he's probably in his early to mid 20s. Shocking news. Means his brother who's also talented is probably actually 18 or 19 instead of a freshman or whatever he is supposedly.
I've never believed Maker's age. It's not like that place is known for the most accurate documents.

The primary reason is the NBA thinks the best time for a player to learn the NBA game is between the ages of 20-23. The so called prime of a basketball player is 26-28.
Players coming in in their early 20s are viewed as already set, whereas 19-20 year olds are viewed as potential.
I would like to ask thon maker what it was like playing against Bill Russell and how he had to adjust
Well, this explains why he looked like such a man against boys in those youtube mixtapes a few years ago. Appears "man against boys" is what it actually was.
With the way the NBA drafts on potential, I'm surprised we don't see more of this sort of age fraud. There's a helluva lot of potential money to be made from presenting yourself as younger.

This has been going on in baseball for a long time.
As an A's fan I remember watching Miguel Tejada tearing it up as a 21 yr old and being an MVP when he was supposed to be in his mid-later 20's.
I always suspected he was older (he had facial wrinkles) and was happy when we let Baltimore pay him a fortune.....
Of course the 28 year old free agent they signed turned out to be 33 and never played at that level again.... It was a couple years later that the Orioles found out.
We also had a pitching prospect that not only was found out to be older but had an entirely different name (used his cousins name).... He ended up going from high rated starting prospect to middle reliever.
Dominicans in particular are bad about that. They have local scouts that pick these 18-19 year Olds, pass them off as 15-16 and make a fee off the major league teams for finding them.
Its apparently very easy to fake a Dominican birth certificate... Many are never even registered at birth.

Yeah, sorry I don't have more info. The friend who told me the story passed away last month and I never heard it anywhere else.
He was a guy who was well-connected in basketball circles, so I never had any reason to doubt the validity. I doubt it ever became public knowledge.
It might have been more like 35 years ago. Seems like there were some stories from back in the Arthur Hanson days.

But yeah, there's too much evidence to buy the Maker story. That guy is not 19. That's a lie. The gut tells me he's a liar and the yearbooks are very damning.
