When Stoops was hired I just wanted a nasty SEC level defense that killed people.

Thats it.

Instead we got a 385lb fat *** NT who can't get in a stance and run a 3-4 with no quality lineman.

I don't think you can overvalue recruiting, but yes, I agree we do need competent coaches that can develop talent, or it's all basically pointless. You'd think being paid 4 million dollars a year you could do both.

For not giving a **** about UK football, Chad loves to spend time lecturing those suffering fans out there about how not to care and how silly it is to invest in UK football.

Right or wrong, it's pretty cool how you are so above it. Hopefully I'll get there sooner or later.

I mean, I watch every game and have done so since I was a kid so I don't see how you can say I don't give a ****, but, yeah, seems like I have a much better grasp on UK football than you do. Happy to help you get to this point someday. You have my number.

That's it? All you wanted was for UK to have a top 10 national defense? Because that's what a nasty SEC level defense that killed people would be, which is a pretty ridiculous "that's it" thing to wish for as if its some sort of baseline that any rational fan would minimally want.

Okay Coach, here's what we're offering:
  1. We'll happily allow you to lose 40% of the games on the schedule every year, forever.
  2. We'll pay you 5 million a year for the rest of your coaching life.
  3. We'll build a statue of you, and name a road after you.
  4. We'll make your schedule such that 25% of the total games are very close to auto-wins, assuming you have no mental incapacities.
  5. You and your family will be set up with generational wealth.
  6. The fans will worship you.
All we ask is that you don't embarrass the University and that your team plays with passion and effort.

Coach's response:

Nope, can't do it. Way too difficult of a job around here.

That was Stoops background. The # 1 DC in the country when he came here. Is it too much to ask that we field a top 25 defense in year four when that is where is bread is buttered?

Not at all IMO.

Thus far in to his head coaching experience, I'd give Stoops a B+ in recruiting and a D in coaching.

I really hope he keeps learning and improving. We will finally have SEC level talent on the OL and in the secondary in the next few years.

But the 8 man punt return and the countless purple faced formation issues on both sides of the ball have me wondering if Stoops has the ability to learn and improve.

I love the Gran hire. We have to have excitement and explosiveness on the offense to keep our mostly dumb fan base entertained. (And to score the bazillion points necessary to overcome our ****** defense)

I hope for 6 wins this year, but at this point would have to think that 4-5 is more likely.

It would be kind of nice if I didn't care, but I do and that will never change.

think we have 5 wins locked in on autopilot....South Carolina & Mizzou will be even worst than the versions we beat last season. 3 non UL OOC games are layups.

Coming on Mags' show saying coaching and special teams were extremely organized when in fact we had just witnessed them lighting dumpsters on fire was....well, you guys know.

I think I started dog cussing at him through the radio, iirc.

Don’t agree that “if Stoops can’t do it, nobody can.” He’s recruited incredibly, yes, but his on-field coaching and program management have been awful. He can get better, but if he doesn’t, I don’t think it’s impossible to find someone who can do a better overall job than him.

He could end up being Ed Orgeron 2.0. An elite recruiter, a great coordinator, and a ****** head coach. To say UK can’t do better just isn’t true. Hell, Rich Brooks was 20 games below .500 when he got here, not to mention he had to deal with probation, not to mention he wasn’t nearly the recruiter that Stoops is, and he was able to take the program to 4 straight bowls. Hopefully with some more experience, Stoops learns how to lead a program.

Stoops probably needed to be a head coach at a lower tier team before coming to the SEC... and if he did and was decent to good, we wouldn't have gotten him.

Why not?

If someone created a Youtube video of the most "UK football" moments in our history, how long would it be?

This raises a question I've debated with some of my friends: What is the most "UK Football" moment of all time?

For me it's either the 8 man punt return or getting punked by WKU in your new coaches' first game. Meet the new UK football - same as the old one!

UK Athletics has decided to make an interesting gamble with football. Basically, their biggest selling point was always community (whether consciencely or not).

"Hey... come to the game, tailgate, have 6-7 mini family/friend reunions each year, have the hope for a good result and the chance for some amazing moments that are all shared".

The result on the field could be subpar but fans still felt they got what they paid for. Community.

Now, they've decided to sell competency over community. Competency in the program, coaches and administration. That's great (and probably the correct play) if you're competent. But if you're not you've given up a major selling point. Now, fans don't feel like they're getting what they paid for (because they're not). UK changed the sales narrative. Risky play.

Tulane in the Superdome in 1980 is as bad as anything, and no one has ever heard of it. Tulane trailed by 1, ball on its own 6, 12 seconds to go.

Two spot of the foul pass interference calls as time expired gave Tulane a chip shot field goal to win.

That would never happen today except to us.

Stoops is in his 4th year here...and has been in major college football in some aspect since 2001. How many years do you allow him to keep "learning and improving"? When did a head coaching job in the SEC become an OJT gig?

And your statement here is nothing more than a repeat of before....

""I love the (INSERT FORMER OC BROWN AND DAWSON) hire. We have to have excitement and explosiveness on the offense to keep our mostly dumb fan base entertained. (And to score the bazillion points necessary to overcome our ****** defense)""

It's not like Stoops was a heavily sought after head coaching candidate - certainly not the "number 1 DC in the country". He contacted UK after all, wanting the job. He did well at FSU, but his main claim to fame was his last name. If Stoops doesn't work out, I think you could legitimately say the last two hires were the worst back to back in the history of the program. Joker - lackluster offensive coordinator with no head coaching experience, hired mainly because of his ties to the university and for the sake of "continuity". Stoops - good DC with famous brother - no head coaching experience or other schools beating down his door.

Not sure he'd come here but he might be available around the same time that Stoops is let go....IF he is let go:

Predicting 4-5 wins and questioning the HC's ability to coach is drinking the kool-aid? I'm sorry, I was talking about UK not UNC.

Kindly put your dick back in your pants and head over to Tar Heel Blitz, get pumped, put on a gorilla suit and grab a little white kid, get pumped again and finally get pumped one last time while Kris Jenkins repeatedly buries 3's in your eye. TIA. #StollField
