What new level can they go to? He's been rumored to 75% of the franchises in the NBA over the last 7 years.

And about 90% of those rumors were just clickbait ********. The difference being that once people decide to copy OKC/Donovan that Cal will actually be at the top of lists of owners/GM's struggling for wins instead of at the top of lists of bloggers/writers struggling for clicks. The only thing that ever seemed legitimate during his entire tenure so far were the Cleveland rumors.

- The Warriors backlash was inevitable. Such is life in the 24/7 news cycle. I don't have anything against them. They've long had a great homecourt and their guys are mostly likable. But I wouldn't mind seeing Durant get his. Has always seemed like a great guy.

- Watched a pretty hilarious stand-up special on Netflix- Ali Wong. Had me rotflmao.

- Rumors peaking around the corner about a possible reclassification from Hamidou Diallo. Interesting. He would be a nice fit on this roster.

- Real Sports HBO did a piece on the AR-15 and the ridiculousness of it being on the market for civilians. These gun lobbyists make me sick. Greedy pigs just like Big Tobacco 30+ years ago.

Nope. Several have been legitimate had Calipari been interested. Sacramento. New Jersey. New Orleans. To name a few...

The NBA is indeed a copycat league. Draft 2 of the 3-4 best players in the league, surround them with a ton of additional talent, hire a college coach = profit.

Easy enough.

Shaping up to be another LOADED year when we're at our best again. I think people are underestimating the losses, as usual, but Villanova and UNC with their guys opting back will still be pretty good.

I'm pretty sure replacing fast food workers with robots would increase the quality of the product. I can't imagine anyone would disagree with that.

Lees tenders are hand made with love, fyi. Honey dipped and fried in lard the way The Lord intended. I'll be damned if those hands are replaced by cold dead robot hands.

Pretty huge day for UK Basketball -- we need both of these guys back.

For ONCE, it would be pretty nice if we got everyone back that we were supposed to.:weary:

Yep. Besides their talents, Briscoe, Lee and Hawkins would provide a pretty solid leadership base for a young team.

Even if Briscoe comes back and just repeats his freshman production, that would be huge. But I get the feeling he would have a breakout year. I LOVE his game, minus that jumper which, as noted by others, almost has to improve from last year.

FWIW- I don't think it was a bad take overall. I just don't think it affects Calipari much at this point. What more can be thrown at him? Guys like Self and Wright will start getting much greater attention, though.

at this point.

I think this is the key. Let the guy that he basically ran out of the SEC start collecting championships and accolades in the NBA and see how that sets with Cal's ego. In five years, if they can keep their core together, Minnesota could potentially be what OKC is today and I don't think Cal has enjoyed a player more than Towns. That's the situation to keep an eye on. Not LeBron. He has proven he basically wants to coach the team. Not Cousins. He's a knucklehead and not worth the time. Not New Orleans. That franchise is a train wreck. Minnesota with Towns and Wiggins could shape up to be an ideal situation for Cal to walk into and compete for championships.

I agree with Mattox: The NBA is the biggest copycat league in pro sports and the success of Billy Donovan will cause more NBA franchises to look towards Calipari and other college coaches. It's kind of already started with Fred Hoiberg coming to the Bulls the same year, although the Bulls didn't make the playoffs and you know what I should probably stop this point right now.

But I also agree with Chad: I don't think it's going to matter all that much with Calipari. It still has to be the perfect offer with the perfect team/ownership to get him out of here, and I don't know a team out there that fits those criteria and is looking to replace their coach. Every franchise that fired their coach this year has TERRIBLE ownership except the Magic and Pacers. I just can't envision Cal dropping everything to go work for James Dolan/Jim Buss/Vivek.

And also, the Billy Donovan thing was an absolute perfect storm. Donovan was clearly disenchanted at Florida if you remember some of the things he said after we won in Gainesville, "this game was lost in October" and the like. He was a beaten man and had had enough. Meanwhile OKC had had enough of Scott Brooks because they had finally come to their senses.

Donovan got the keys to a pretty awesome car and was told to please take better care of it than Scott Brooks did. To be fair, he's done that and then some. Scott Brooks NEVER would have rolled with the two 7-footers playing together because Kanter would have been too much of a defensive liability for Brooks to trust since he's 100% all in on defense and stuff. That's only the lineup that has made fools out of the 67-win Spurs and 73-win Warriors.

The best part of a OKC Championship would be Donovan passing Pitino as far as coaching success is concerned. Maybe he'll finally have the guts to tell Rick to GFH the next time he calls to offer career advice.
