Thursday Shorts:

- Looks like the Cubs are the team to beat this year. On one hand, I hate the Cubs. On the other, my passion for MLB is seriously waning and one of my lifelong pals is a born Cubbie (his late father is from Chicago) and I'd like to see him enjoy some success.

- You golfballs pumped about The Players Championship?

- May is usually about as consistently nice of month as you'll get around here, but this year-> [eyeroll]. 55 degrees on Saturday. WTF?

- It's been probably 10 years since I could have any idea what I could max out at on the bench. Looks like Boat made the mistake of taking one of my posts too literally.

- Not a HUGE fan of Moscow Mules or those copper mugs.

- Needed some bourbon so just picked up some Jefferson's. Thoughts from the bourbonheads?

- Cal is hard for this team because they're going to be long, athletic and nasty. As fun as last year's team was at times, I think Cal hated them. His ideal team is tough and defensive-minded. May be ugly early at times, but we're going to be tough to beat.

I could give an ish less how much weight I can actually pick up off a bar and move around. I just want to look like I actually workout.

My roommate is a crossfitter. He's top 5% in his age group so that's pretty cool but I touching hate everything to do with crossfit.

Pretty much. I do it for the exercise, stress relief and vanity. I know some fellas need goals and such with fitness. That's cool. It's just not my motivation.

Last year's team was primarily a jump
shooting team that had to rely way too much on the 3 and was by Cal standards a porous defensive team.

Cal doesn't like jump shooting teams
that depend heavily on the 3 bc they're fools gold. When the 3's are falling you look like unbeatable but if you depend too much on the 3 you're playing with fire... I.e the Inidiana game. You go cold.. Done.

We were soft last year as a whole and practically had a non existent inside game.

Cal loves teams that are super long/athletic, a pack of dogs defensively and great at rebounding. Sprinkle in some good outside shooting to keep defenses honest--> 2011-2012.

Hopefully Bolden's a Cat and Monk & Willis can provide enough outside shooting. If that happens we should be scary good.

Why? A lot of people love it. If you're working out and find something that works for you, I'm all for it.

I believe stupid **** like this, and the cross fit games are pretty much why. Cross-fit guy is first cousins with softball guy, IMO.

That worm like pull-up form is strangely reminiscent of the Gyeroylmpics.

At least crossfit guy was doing them overhand.

It's in a competition. Same as any other. Why did CC bench 405? See if he could, get stronger? I don't know.

It's become a sport, like it or not. Thank ESPN for that.

- I don't give a rats *** what someone else does to work out. But I find it hilarious (Chappelle kid voice) that people who don't regularly workout criticize the style in which someone else, who is in shape, actually works out.

But to each his own.

- PTI wants to laugh at me, fine. He runs 100 miles a week. He hits the gd pavement.

I used to be high and mighty about cross fit guy and his poor form. I've come back around, though. Now I hate the chubby losers that mock cross fit. I mean... whatever, it seems like a decent work out and they love it.

Whether you like it or not, crossfit does produce impressive results.

Most everyone I know that takes it seriously ends up looking very fit.

Unfortunately, I also have seen way more injuries associated with it than pretty much any other kind of activity.

So focus on that form I guess.

Where have you seen the most injuries? Shoulders are what would scare me the most.

Shoulders probably the most, torn rotator cuff and labrum. Herniated discs quite common. Bicep ruptures. Torn meniscus. Ligament tears in the wrist.

It's not like these injuries don't happen in weightlifters either, but the incidence is definitely more in the crossfit group...in my experience.

If you guys can't get behind making fun of those spastic looking weirdos in Chase's GIFs I don't know what to tell you. They look absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention crossfit guy tends to only talk about crossfit after a while and be extremely thin skinned about teasing him about it. In general the people that I know that did it become extremely annoying.

Oh, do crossfitters typically move out of their ****** apartments after reaching certain milestones? Do some of their kids get time back with mom or dad once they can clean/jerk 315 lbs? Instant raises at work for those who can deadlift barrels full of gravel?

Because that would indeed be impressive.

#realtalk what I do care about is what I see as a growing cavalier attitude towards basic rules of hygiene/personal appearance that seems to be creeping into some professional classes #brushyourteeth

I was speaking in terms of physical results. Maybe some of their success will translate over...

I have some good friends who are "into" the lifestlyle. They are pretty strict paleo dieters as well. She's mid 40's and he's early 50's. Both look 10-15 years younger than their actual age.

They invited me over for dinner one night with their crossfit friends. Definitely had kind of a cult feel to it...not gonna lie. But then again, health care workers are also pretty guilty of bogarting the conversation around medical stuff. Richie can attest.

Good stuff, SAE, and a great guy to go after with such a rant- the dude who went to school for 15 years through the military and spent time in the Middle East.

Obviously, the jury is still way out on Stoops and there's a ton of question marks regarding his ability to run a program.

That being said, I don't give a rat's *** who we hire bc as long as Mitch is AD we're bringing water guns to an all out guerrilla warfare battle with these other SEC schools.

Auburn has this McGregor sob funneling straight cash through a dog track to buy players & we trot out WWH and Huber.

Time to get fng real.
