Jodie Meeks vs. Jamal Murray

Murray all day.
Meeks was great, but he wasn't a solid ball handler and had too many turnovers in crunch time. After that UT game you could count on him driving through a crowded middle to get the ball stolen about 5 times a game. They were probably about equal on defense.

Murray hands down.

Meeks was a great college player but he also benefited from a much inferior team to Murray's and a coach who ran the offense through him despite his insistence that "this isn't the university of Jodie Meeks."

Jamal was the better ball handler, athlete, rebounder, & passer and their shooting was about a wash.

Love em both though.

Of course we are all comparing freshman Murray with junior Meeks. Even so, Murray was the better overall scorer and player. Loved watching both of them in Kentucky blue.

Hard to compare a Fr to a Jr ..I think Murray would be much much better than Meeks in 2 years...

I would take Murray. He's a more versatile player. But Jodi could fill it up, was a great athlete too. His flaw was he wasn't a good ball handler which Murray excels at

In cals system I'd take Jodie. Truth be told, there is no wrong answer here both are great. I know murrary had a lot more to work with but with Jodie he only had Patterson. I would of loved to have Jodie his senior year I think we cut the nets had that happened. Jodie's junior yr was incredible I've never seen a guy score like he did

I don't care what team you play on, or what year player you are, or what abilities you have, if you score 54 in a game you're legit and I'll take Jodie on any team. It's close to a wash if you made me choose who I'd want. Murray has the ability to play the 1 also so that's hard to discount.

I can't decide. Meeks going off for 54 against the 1st team I despised (still) was REALLY something. Remember, you don't get 54 with out some assists from the other players that realize it is your night. Did Murray ever get a game like that?

No way...Jodie was a much better defensive player and if he come back for his senior year I think he may have become a lottery pick or for certain a 1st rounder

In the NBA I would definitely pick Murray.

Although keep in mind Murrays college coach didn't order players not to pass him the ball it screen for him.

Meeks was Kentucky the last 2 season here. Man if Meeks had Ulis while playing here we go to a FF, not lose to a bad IU team in the second round.

It's probably Jamal but I'd like to see Meeks with Tyler getting him the ball.

I loved Meeks as early as his FR year.
But I might give the slight edge to Murray (better mid-range, attacking the basket, & ball-handling).

Shooting: Jamal Murray....this one is close, though. Meeks was a monster.
Scoring in multiple way: Jamal Murray...this one is easier. Murray scored in just about every way imaginable
Athleticism: Jamal Murray...easy here. I don't think I ever saw Meeks posterize someone like Murray did against South Carolina (?)
Defense: Meeks...We all know Murray wasn't the best defender. Meeks wasn't a beast on that end, but I remember him being able to shoot the gaps for a breakaway steal multiple times.

The answer is simple to me. Overall, Murray edges him out.

Murray had more talent around him and better coaching by far. While Meeks was a junior last time he wore a UK uniform, he was more able to carry a team and was a more consistent shooter. Many times, Murray didn't start hitting until the second half.

Meeks as a junior was better than Murray as a freshman. Plus, Murray had Ulis setting him up while Meeks had Michael Porter. Think about that for a second.

I think if Meeks would've come back as a senior, he could've put up Hield-type numbers.

not so sure that's would have happened, - the potential would have been there, sure, but maybe not the reality. Part of the reason Jodie did what he did his junior year was because of who else was on that team.
Senior year he'd have been playing with Wall, Bledsoe, Patterson, and Boogie. But I do believe, with Jodie on that team we'd have seen a FF at minimum - probably an NC

How can you talk about "his senior year" when Murray was barely able to play as a freshman?

Jodie holds the single game scoring record. Jamal came and went through one season. Murray was also ice cold in the tourney when it counted.

Man if Jodie was on the wall team...

Not a chance. He may have been the difference in a championship but he wasn't putting those numbers up with Wall & Cousins leading the way.

Maybe not PPG but I think his metrics and %s would have been similar with Wall/Bledsoe setting him up.
