Read through most of the posts and nice to see so many feeling more positive but my feelings are the same as before. I see nothing that says I should be very certain he is now coming to UK and I haven't seen or heard anything that shows how we suddenly have scholarship room for him. Sure I would love to see him at UK and, more importantly, not see him added to Duke's already stacked roster. I feel we will be solid either way but don't want to see an even stronger Duke. Not going to lose sleep over his decision and just wait to see who he chooses tomorrow. Then, just move on from there no matter what he decides.

A big like Bolden doesnt need to be Hakeem, just enough to keep the Defense honest and destroy the other team's 4.

Without a solid 5 Bam will be on the block and will receive a heavy dose of the 4 coming over to help.

he will be the primary target on all block outs.

Bolden allows Bam to be 1 on 1 on rebounding. I like our chances.

Keep in mind our previous beast on the boards - Randle had WCS or Dakari at all times.

Exactly. With the (expected) talent we'll have, our center just needs to be capable, which (hopefully) allows Bam to do what Bam does best. Plus, if he can shoot FTs well, as another poster mentioned... all the better!

brianpoe, I agree that by getting Bolden would improve out team by giving us a back to basket player and also allowing everyone to play their "natural" position. I see that maybe our Southern Hemisphere Duo could maybe play that way, never the less any of the 3 possible recruits would be a great addition.

Yes, we'll be fine, either way. BUT... at this point it's as much about beating/blocking dook in the recruiting game, as it is about UK getting him to fill a need. This is especially true, if Cal let Allen get away due to giving most of the attention to Bolden.
bingo, it has a lot to do with competing against duke.

This has to be a joke, right?
No I'm tired of this recruitment. I think both teams will be happy when it's all done, no matter what team he picks. I'm afraid we may potentially miss out on Allen the longer he waits. Of course none of that matters if he chooses kentucky.

No doubt he would've done his best to protect the paint, but he's used up all of his eligibility... and I mean ALL of it.

The only real issue is if we dont get him and it took so long that we lose Allen becasue of it (assuming that was the reason for losing Allen).

Otherwise Rondo is just channeling Rajon, which he does often. No one has a better avatar to match themselves than this guy.

I am staying away from this bolden talk as it is beyond silly now ( he is coming to UK so there is not much to discuss unless he has a change of heart which I doubt ) but he and his family has said it will be tomorrow .

There seems to be some buzz that he will sit down with his family and make a decision tomorrow but not announce until Monday.

Not anything new or ground breaking. Zagoria and the Duke guy aren't privvy to any inside info. The reporter from Rivals who broke the "decision on Sunday" story followed the tweet with another that said "decision Sunday, but still trying to work out details for announcement with school." Safe to say a school announcement happens during the school week (likely during or directly after school day).

Sounds like Bolden is not announcing tomorrow. I have no inside info at all but what worries me about this info, is that a guy named Chad Lykins (Duke guy) might have been the first to release it.

Tweet from Zagoria

Who is your back to the basket guy?

Bam has not show great skill on the block and you can see the terror he brings if freed up?

Is Hump ready?

SKJ and WG are more face up players.

Willis - no.

Lee - no.

Keep in mind our previous beast on the boards - Randle had WCS or Dakari at all times.

KAT and Randle were not back to the basket guys coming out of HS. Cal actually develops players with raw skills into what they need to be in the pros. Bam is missing a back to the basket game, so what do you think Cal will be working on from day one?

Bam/Gabriel inside compares well to Jones/Davis, Randle/WCS, and KAT/WCS. Gabriel is not going to be as effective defensively as AD or WCS, but on offense he has much better perimeter skills than WCS and probably AD (AD was just an amazing talent, it's hard to compare anyone to him).

Also, we have SKJ who might sneak in there and start with Bam.

And Willis stretches the defense and keeps the opposing 4 from coming over to help when he is in the game. Hopefully, Gabriel and SKJ pulls players away from the basket as well.

I want Bolden as well, and he will give us another weapon inside offensively and defensively, but we can and will be alright without him.

As I have said before, Bam is the key inside for us. When we got him, I felt we would be golden inside. He is my favorite player in this class.

I'd rather we have a Bolden so it doesnt take half a season ala KAT to get there or an entire season ala Skal for Bam to become super effective with a back to the basket game.

I couldnt disagree more with this entire paragraph.

"Bam/Gabriel inside compares well to Jones/Davis, Randle/WCS, and KAT/WCS. Gabriel is not going to be as effective defensively as AD or WCS, but on offense he has much better perimeter skills than WCS and probably AD (AD was just an amazing talent, it's hard to compare anyone to him). "

Davis was the block man and Jones the powerful PF who could also step out on the floor ala Bam.

Same with Randle/WCS. KAT/WCS are both 5's.

I think people are expecting a bit much from WG - those thinking hew will be an awesome 3 will be disappointed at his skill level out on the floor and shooting.

Those thinking he will be a great PF will be disappointed becasue he is so slight.

I believe he can grow into a wing, much more of a stretch 4 right now.

SKJ is a face up guy.

Bam at the 5 will handcuff him.

He will be learning to play the block.

He will have the other team's biggest player on him all game.

He will be the sole blockout target on all rebounds.

Unlike Randle and Jones he will have a much more of a tough time.

Until WG shows that he can keep the defense honest we only have Willis at the 4 to stretch the court.

Bam attacking the basket from different angles becasue we have a big on the block is the most optimal setting as it maximizes his athleticism.

Those wanting Bam at the 5 and play small ball are really counting on us having at least 3 very good shooters at all times. I dont see that starting the season.

Monk can be great but is very streaky.

I introduced the board to Fox and love him, but also know of his inconsistent shot.

Briscoe...

Folks here do not think Willis starts over WG but he is the ONLY consistent shooter and that is a set shot.

Without very good outside shooting small ball is ugly.

And that small ball lineup pretty much ensures Briscoe as our 2nd leading rebounder again.... didnt work out so well last year.

Give me a big on the block and let Bam fly around. The other 3 will be able to be more creative.

Much better than just having 4 guys pass around a packed zone daring us to shoot with Bam in the paint by himself.

When I was his age I couldn't even figure out what I wanted to wear to school the next day. Now, this kid has to decide between a Ferrari, Lamborghini, and a Prius. It potentially has long-term implications. He'll decide when he decides, he'll announce when he wants to announce.

Exactly. If people would just stop and take the time to actually try to comprehend what they are reading, they would know that him deciding Sunday but waiting to announce at school isn't anything new or groundbreaking, and has been the plan all along since Rivals first reported it.

We will be better with Bam inside than we were with Poythress.

Bam is going to compare very nicely to Randle and KAT as an inside presence.

We should be an improved team and should have a shot at the Final Four and a title even if we miss on Bolden.

That's really all we can ask for, right?

Go ahead and wring your hands through the offseason worrying about whether this team has enough of this or that. In the end, most every year we have a shot at winning it all and most every year we will fall short because of the nature of a single elimination tourney. You can pick teams apart all year long, but when it is all said and done, we win some and lose some. Still, we almost always have a team built that can win it all. That's what it is really all about to me.

Enjoy the ride. With or without Bolden, we have a shot at 9. With or without Bolden we are likely to fall short. That is college bball. Even dominant teams can lose on any given night (like 2015).

I am just so happy to have a 6'10, 250 pounder inside that I can't waste my time nitpicking his game worrying that he may not be enough.

I am good with us riding Bam on the block as far as he can take us.

If Bolden comes, then that's bonus. Love to have him, too, but I ain't going to cry if he picks Duke.

I don't disagree but the subject at hand is Bolden at this time.

If we do not get another big it is what is.

Bam > Alex on sheer desire.

If Bam is the 5 then comparing him to Randle is apples and oranges.

Bam will never have KATs offensive game. Totally different players.

I just hope we shoot the ball well.

First of all, I want to say good discussion. I thoroughly enjoy the back and forth. It's good to carry on a conversation with another intelligent fan.

Now, back to the debate...

Randle was our main post threat in '14. Call him the 4 or the 5, it doesn't matter. He was on the block.

Numbers mean very little on the offensive end of the floor. And on defense for that matter, since that team, like most of Cal's teams, switched on screens so bigs guarded on the perimeter and guards defended bigs.

KAT and Randle played basically the same roles with WCS beside them. In '14 we labeled WCS the 5 and in '15 he was labeled the 4, yet he basically played the same role on offense as a rebounder and lob catcher.

Positions (numbers or otherwise) are way too over emphasized, IMHO.

Cal seems to agree with his "positionless basketball" stance.
