My favorite thing about kids sports these days is that you basically have to choose their path when they turn 5. It's wonderful. Like a Choose Your Own Adventure book only you don't get to cheat and turn the pages back to start over.
The more I think about it, the more I think "Country Club" might be a good idea. Work with 80 on building some kind of bar in a shipping container - I mean, why not? WHO'S WITH ME?
I have no qualms about living my life vicariously through my 6 year olds tee ball games. And I'm not alone out there. Youth sports is just a facade for men to compete with each other through the vessel of young kids, and I'm bout that life. My son got 7 outs in his game last night you loser bitches. Eat my ***

Duel in the Sun is a fantastic book. The sport of running is boring enough as is, so reading about it it typically even worse. But that's one of the few i highly recommend.

No kidding. Sign up in dead of winter for all the sports, find out a week before practice starts that everyone practices at the exact same time.
On top of that I feel like I missed out on making a new real life friend.
Naw I'll find out when team picture day is and make her go that night before soccer practice. Nobody will know she didn't actually play when they see that bad boy on my mantle.

It's real easy to say, "Yeah, man, just want my kids to have a good time and enjoy playing. Don't really care much if they're good at it or win or whatever." But that's almost always a lie. There is at least a small part of you that does care and it is shameful.
Interesting. Every time I'd go by there I would look and just assume it closed down. It was one of my favorites years ago and can't believe it was able to stay open.

Kind of a bizarre recruiting year, even though we did end up with a ridiculous class. Calipari ignored/passed on or wasn't a factor for wings like Alkins, Simmons (although he considers himself a PG), Ferguson and Jackson.
Either Cal really thinks Matthews will develop or he believes Gabriel can be a SF.

Seems he'd rather have/recruit multiple PGs and 7 bigs, and figure out the rest as he goes...that's certainly who he focuses on recruiting. Small Forwards must require too much extra time on the road or something.

Which is stupid, b/c he won the title with ridiculous depth at SF. All-American gamer in Gilchrist and vet player Miller.
Coaches are dumb sometimes. You almost have to have a stud 3 to win the title. Cal's teams lost in 2010 and 2015 b/c they didn't really have a true SF. I guess Miller/Liggins in 2010, but they were still immature at the time. Lyles could've been, but he is a classic tweener between SF and PF...definitely not a lockdown defender.
Oh well. SF for Cal is our new Tubby PF.

One of my kids is attending a KBA basketball camp this summer. Pretty sure Jared Prickett is running that deal so I expect a lot of missed layup instruction.
His best Memphis team also had 2 good-to-great college wings in CDR & Antonio Anderson to go along w/ his elite PG & stable of capable/bruising bigs as well.
CDR was an AA, and Anderson averaged 11pts/5r/4a

Yes, all players are important, but it seems that 3s are often the difference makers/swing guys (literally). Throw Dekker from Wisconsin in the mix.

I agree I also hate Cal. Fire him, burn down his house, salt the earth.
Also, 'recruit' and TARGET are 2 different things...they just aren't a priority most years for him, period.

Whether or not he plays there full time, Cal recruited Gabriel as a full time wing and it may have been the reason he chose us. Injuries can change it, necessity may change it, maybe he will under perform at the wing spot BUT he was in fact recruited as a wing. No idea if Cal will make good on the way he recruited him but that was certainly part of our pitch, to play the wing. No clue how it pans out but that was the pitch.

Tubby would be a perfect fit for a program that needs recruits from its rat-infested AAU scene. That guy loves to get down and dirty recruiting.
Sounds like Penny would be on the staff in the second chair. That guy could deal with the rats.
