Allen can't leave yet; we haven't finished watching him become a complete Dooche!

The biggest reason I think this is wrong is because they lack a point guard.

Here's the current roster with current classifications:
2 Chase Jeter F/C 6-10 240 Fr.
3 Grayson Allen G 6-5 205 So.
5 Luke Kennard G 6-5 180 Fr.
12 Derryck Thornton G 6-2 175 Fr.??
13 Matt Jones G 6-5 200 Jr.
14 Brandon Ingram G/F 6-9 190 Fr.
21 Amile Jefferson F 6-9 225 Sr.
??
30 Antonio Vrankovic C 7-0 270 Fr.
34 Sean Obi F 6-9 250 So.
40 Marshall Plumlee C 7-0 250 Gr.
45 Nick Pagliuca G 6-3 195 Jr.
50 Justin Robinson F 6-8 190 Fr.
53 Brennan Besser G 6-5 180 Fr.

Who's coming in?
Javin DeLaurier F 6'8" 215
Harry Giles F 6'10" 220
Frank Jackson G 6'3" 180
Jayson Tatum F 6'8" 205
Jack White F 6'7" 225

If they lose Thornton, that puts the ball in the hands of Matt Jones, Grayson Allen (if he returns), or true freshman Frank Jackson, who is also more shooting guard than point guard.

K rarely goes over 7-8 deep....With Kennard, Allen, and Jefferson coming back and will be expecting to start there will be some chemistry problems for sure...K is a great coach but not good at handling egos.

Loserville fans hoping he transfers there,, except that one guy that says he's too slow,, lol.. But unless the acc changed its policy on transfers,, he'd sit out a year plus lose a years eligibility if he transfers within the acc..

Yeah, don't see chemistry issues. Giles, Tatum, and Allen do not overlap. The rest are largely role player types for now. Duke hasn't had many chemistry issues over the years... K generally has little to no patience for it.

And Jefferson is expected back.

That puts them Two over the limit without Thornton leaving if he does leave they are still One over the limit.....HMMMMMMMMMMMM. If Jefferson gets redshirt thru....How many darn walk ons are on that list???

Justin Robinson is a prefered walkon who could be moved off scholarship. From what I know his father has some money and could pay for college.

Thornton was a reach/necessity for this year's team. I never thought as highly of him as the recruiting guys did when he had a big Summer 2 years ago. He looked scared to death in NCAA's--often couldn't even dribble without losing handle. He isn't a loss for them at all but where he'd go is interesting. UK definitely got the better of the reclassified guards--Murray was far superior to Thornton--who stunk in National Prep Invite this time a year ago too.

There is still going to be a lot of player movement involving teams--I expect UK to lose some guys too. I keep being told Briscoe is gone, and that happens, and a Big leaves unexpectedly via any route, then throw in Matthews/Mulder--I see one of them going based on playing time. Don't see either playing ahead of incoming class.

Thornton leaving wouldn't have a thing to do with Bolden leaning to Duke. Doesn't effect his PT either way. Jeter leaving or Jefferson not being granted a medical hardship would be the only reasons.

Where are you hearing that?
Lots of smoke out there on multiple boards. I normally wouldn't give that kind of talk credence, except I've seen multiple insiders/posters who are very credible indicate that was the case. I hope they're wrong.

So you think that he is (or may be) leaving Duke?

While I'm not optimistic from what I've read, I'll wait and see what happens before going out on a limb with a prediction. I've definitely got my fingers crossed that he stays.

Oh my if this is true the K-father won't be happy !!! Nobody every want's to live his life changing teaching? where is he going to learn the correct way to flop, trip and throw his head back? much less to cuss officials like a sailor, and lie about what he said to an opposing player ?

I don't know why Duke fans are that bummed about this. Seems like addition by subtraction. That is if Allen stays as he is saying. Allen, Kennard, Jones and Jackson is more than enough.

Why would he leave anyway? Any speculation?

What does Allen get out of coming back other than winning Coach K another title?

Next year's draft class will be loaded compared to the current. Makes no sense.

Way I see this effecting UK more is Duke will now be looking for a '17 PG--and Trae Young could be targeted by Duke more intense then was case with Thornton looking like a 3-4 year player.

That's a great question, and one I don't have an answer to unfortunately. I just know that several credible Duke insiders are saying it's very possible he leaves.

While he was very erratic throughout the season, he also showed flashes of brilliance. A lot of us had high hopes that he would be a lot more productive next season after a full offseason training on campus.

I believe he's on pace to graduate after next season, and from everything I've read, that has always been important to him. Things can obviously change, but he did just make Second Team Academic All-American. So, I guess take that for what it's worth.

While we have definitely been recruiting Trae, I think our big PG target for 2017 is still Gary Trent Jr.

Gary Trent Jr is not nor will he ever be a point guard. He's a 2G. And imo--an overrated one if placed in the top 15 of '17 class. He is a scorer more then shooter, struggles when forced to put it on the floor and you can run him off spots. Hard worker and nice kid--but he took advantage of a horrible Howard Pulley team last year where he could jack up shots and score at will-because it was needed. I'd take Diallo and Petty over Trent Jr 100% of the time.
