Lamb was exactly what we needed for our run in 2012. We couldn't have asked for a better SG for that team.

Murray is what we need for this team, and will be a better pro.

I don't like these comparisons because it's not a "pick'em" situation.

Lamb was a very good role player on 2 teams but Murray is way more talented and able to take over a game. Murray will be a star in the NBA.

Lol lamb a role player.

Lamb was a key contributor to our only title since 98. in 2012 he became one of UK's most consistent three point threads we've had.

Lamb is probably a little better pure shooter, but Murray is better overall and is a better scorer and rebounder.

actually he is the best 3 point (percentage wise) shooter ever at UK
a lot of people say Delk, but the stats totally disagree
Lamb's worst year percentage wise is better than Delk's best year

give me one of Lamb, Delk, Murray, Meeks on any UK team and i would jump for joy

Is there something wrong with being a role player on championship team? I don't think so, and that's what Lamb was.

Role player to me seems a bit harsh for a guy with his numbers and percentages. Was Davis a role player? If so, then yes, lamb was a role player. I guess everyone is a role player.

Murray , not very close imo but Lamb was a very good player and not just as a spot up shooter, that was his role but he coulda been more,, just a good player. Murray though on a higher level!

Damn some mad disrespect to lamb here. Just a role payer. Just a "good player".

Me thinks some didn't even watch him.

for those that never watched Lamb live
his baseline drive was/is one of the quickest i have ever seen

the 2012 team had 6 role players, they each took their turn dominating games throughout the year
somehow they all got drafted

Ok then in this metric every player is a role player. Then yes, lamb is a role player.

I already know dude. Lamb had a quick move to the rack, could handle the ball, and was one of (I know) the most consistent shooters we have ever had. Without him, I don't think we win the title. I wouldn't want to risk it either way.
He was ice cold, and helped create the image and persona of that team.
Strange thread.

This can not be a serious question? Murray and Lamb shouldnt be mentioned in the same breath, and Lamb was my favorite overall guard until Murray! Murray is light years ahead of Lamb...maybe not defensively.

Lamb was a good player. I don't mean to imply otherwise. Still, he was role player. He shot a great 3-pt. percentage, but he only averaged 1-2 per game. He didn't rebound much (even for a guard), he didn't really get assists or steals or blocks, and defense wasn't a particular strong suit. So, again, I think he was a good player with the role of shooter, and he played his role well.

We had Terrence jones and Anthony Davis under the basket, with MKG at the wing. You expected him to rebound? Come on man, that's, that's just wrong. What guard could rebound with those guys under the goal?

He didn't get steals because that team was nearly dead last in steals on the year cal wanted them to play back in man, and not go for steals being the juggarnaut they were defensively. Cal wanted defensive positioning that year.

He only shot so few because that's what cal wanted, and what the team needed.

This is a prime example of why stats don't tell the true stories.

he was 76 /163 in 2012
he was also one of the most efficient players i have ever seen
very rarely did he take a bad shot

as i stated i would be thrilled with any of the four i mentioned

i do think Murray is the best two guard Cal has had
but to call Lamb a role player is insane

Percentages don't tell the whole story, Lamb never took a three where he wasn't set( shoulders square, feet set, very little contest) ,Lamb had the best shot selection from three for a shooter that I've ever seen. Delk would shoot contested three pointers, if Delk had the shot selection that Lamb had I have no doubt his percentages would have been just as good. The problem is at the next level you don't get nearly as much space and have to be able to shoot quickly, and a little off balance at times because the defense is so much better

How does any of that negate that he was a role player on the championship team? It doesn't, and he was. Again, that doesn't mean he wasn't a good player. Also, if he had a whole lot more to his game beyond shooting that he was prevented from showing at UK, he didn't exhibit it at the NBA level.

Lamb is actually super underrated at getting to the rim and controlling the ball. He could go.

Lamb was a true scorer. You put him on this years team and he averages 20+ points. The 2012 team just didn't require any one player to take over. Lamb gets a lot more shots on this years version of the cats.

Lamb is a better shooter then Murray. But Murray is more versatile. I would give the edge to Murray. Let's not forget Lamb played a key role in helping the cats win the title.

I loved me some Lamb, especially with a little mint jelly. But I gotta take Murray as an all around player.

And I wouldn't call Lamb a "role player" per se, but I would say he was probably the 4th best player on the team.

Role play doesn't mean a bad player. It just means he wasn't a star. Lamb was steady as a boulder and that's exactly what 2012 needed. Murray is the better overall player though, no doubt about it.

No? That team had 6 role players if that's the case.

I was correcting the guy throwing out stats while it telling the real story. It's disingenuous. Lamb was the real deal, and apparently the most underrated player under cal, and maybe in UK history.

Lamb would absolutely score 20-25+ a night on other cal teams. People just aren't grasping the dominance of the 2012 team, as a TEAM.

We aren't talking about the NBA. It's got absolutely nothing to do with it.

You were totally wrong throwing out meaningless stats like steals and rebounds. On other teams, he would have. Cal told them NOT to steal he told them to maintain position. It's not hard to understand.

You negate how good his first step was at getting to the rim. You dont admit he could've shot way more but that team was a TEAM. it didn't need it.

They all played a role. Without lamb we probably won't win that title. You're trying to make him sound average on a team of greats. I disagree. In a UK uniform, he was great. That's all I'm saying.

Davis was National college player of the year, SEC mvp,Tourny MOP , defensive player of the year, 1st team all american, and MKG All American weren't role players. Lamb was a role player on that team Davis and MKG were the stars, as another poster said, there is nothing wrong with being a role player.

Murray is going to set the single season mark for points for a freshman in the Cal era. He's had two 30 point games and the season is not even over yet. Considering he should be a senior in high school and got a late start its quite impressive. Also, his team Canada performance was amazing as well..

Lamb was more consistent in what he could do as a shooter. He could play solid defense and that he has a wide margin over Jamal. He was very efficient and I never really remember seeing a cold streak out of him in his two years. Good ball handler as well considering he was the backup PG on teams that had 0 depth at guard.. People forget the enormous role he played in the 2011 season when Knight/Liggins/Miller hot/not with their scoring in some games, a steady hand. Led the Cats to a title and back2back Final Four's and he was the better guard(than Teague) in the title run.

Long term, Murray. Performance wise its hard to bet against Lamb's overall solid game. This argument is a lot better than the days of wondering if Derrick Jasper or Michael Porter would have a better game, Cal has done wonders here!
