Those seats cost so much that they are a BIG money maker for UK, hence the "70" year old fans are the only ones that can afford them.

Not yet, therefore we have no expectations for our fan base. But you guys are one of the blue bloods with 20K watching one of your best performances of the season.
Biggest difference between Rupp and the Phog or Cameron. Students don't surround the court, they're only on one end, the other 3 sides are money. So, Rupp only gets rocking occasionally. When it does, it's absolutely one of the best home court environs in the country.
Students do not surround the court at Phog. They have one section just like at UK. Kansas fans are just louder for whatever reason
At least we have 23,000 fans at our games. Probably take you guys half the season to get there.
You are correct and I'm not trying to knock your fanbase. Wins and losses are what really matters. It's just odd watching a team of UK's caliber playing in such a big arena produce such little enthusiasm. Especially considering how you played today.
The crowd at Rupp has been there before. They don't need to constantly jump up and down and chant like a bunch of idiots. UK blowing teams out on their home floor isn't a new occasion. UK led that game by 15-20 points for the better part of 30 mins. Even the announcers got bored.
The perception is framed by what you see on TV, for the most part. As others have stated, those lower seats cost a small fortune, when trying to nab them off of some longtime season ticket holder. Plus, I think the size of the building negates some of the effect of the crowd, when it actually is getting pretty excited.
In 2014, I was lucky enough to have a family member that had never been to Rupp, and she asked me to find some "good" tickets to an SEC game. I found 3 in section 17 (sort of inline with the goal at that end of the court) for a game against LSU. $425 for the 3 seats. She almost had a heart attack, when I told her the price. After comparing notes with other people the past couple years, it has turned out that was a pretty good deal.

Cameron and fog both have student much closer to the floor which is what you see on TV. Rupp is huge. It's different. Go to a game and you'll see.

That's what I discovered. The game we were at was the overtime thriller with the Cats beating Anthony Hickey and Johnny O'Bryant III. I left that game thinking we were at what must've been one of the loudest ever at Rupp. I asked family that had watched the game and the -loudness- report was kind of like "mehh" about it, LOL!
