I heard on the radio they will be honored this season and there was curiosity whether Pitino would show up after giving BBN the bird.

Personally I think Rick shouldn't ever be honored here ever again. I would stop scheduling little bro too until he is gone. I'm sick of all the Louisville crap. I work with bunch of there fans and hear all the time how cal pays plkayer to come to UK. They never want to talk about who have the better program just the better team that year. Cal owns Rick we gain nothing from playing them..We would have to loose 200 and them win 200 games plus 5 titles to be our equal.

The 96 team should, without a doubt, be honored. I don't know where I really stand on honoring Pitino. If it were to happen, he shouldn't be the active coach at UL.

It's the greatest team of all time.

Consider this. Cal has yet to put a team on the floor who could beat them, at least majority outa 7. However you wantna do it, it's still the best. That's insane.

Rick put that together whether people like it or not. UK RICK put that together.

Screw Lousville. Don't let that bullpiss get in the way of what we were.

Honor them all. I'm all for making rick regret his decision, which he does. Let's roll.

Im sorry, but he didn't give "BBN" the bird, he gave it to some heckling fans.

Screw Louisville, MAKE him turn it down. Everytime he speaks of his time here it makes Louisville fans crap the bed.

Stop being a Pitino apologist. Geez Louise.....

It's not apologizing for him. It's the truth. Why flip off the entire arena. You don't have a damn ounce of proof that's what he did. Not a shred.

Even still, IDGAF. he made a massive mistake leaving here, and he knows and has said as much. I'm all for reminding him.

No question, the '96 team should be honored. That was one of the most dominant teams to EVER lace 'em up.

Btw, Skutt, Cal did put a team on the floor that beat them - & gave them all they wanted in the Final Four.

Not when it counted he didn't. Sagarin rated number ONE team of all time. The end.

Pitino had the benefit of having good players stick around more than one season on that team. Cal has not had that advantage. Even that said, the 2012 and 2010 team and 2015 teams would not bow down to 1996 as some seem to suggest. I'd rank 96 #1 overall but those three teams I listed would give them a lot of trouble.

Truth. But because those teams stuck around, they get the nod. Cal chooses young dudes. It's a choice.

Him beating them speaks to his potential as a floor coach.

If you think Rick Pitno didn't flip the UK fans off then you're in denial.

He flipped off someone, but I don't believe it was "at UK fans" in a collective sense. And again, it might not be popular especially to our younger fans, but you've got not a shred of proof.

IMO he flipped off some heckling fans that were spouting. If he flipped us all off, why did it take him over a decade to do it?

You act as if Cal has been stuck with those type players. It's his system, his choice.

I think he gave the finger to everyone. He is sick and tired of being second fiddle and the moment just got to him

We've definitely have had teams that could. You may not believe that it was likely but still.

So if I flip off someone in a movie theatre I flipped everyone there?

Nice logic.

That is such a false analogy. You are not a public figure with your actions being publically scrutinized when you go to a movie theater. And a movie theater crowd does not symbolize a singular larger group in the same way a home crowd in sports does.

Pitino has never done this in the Yum Center, the Dean Dome, Cameron Indoor or anybody else's house, but he did in ours. Sorry, but if a coach (especially this coach) flips off fans wearing blue in Rupp Arena it's gonna be interpreted by people as a gesture toward the BBN. Whether logical or not, that's just how it is. And Pitino's smart enough to understand that.

I never interpreted it that way. I assumed he was flipping off someone who said something he didn't appreciate.

Sagarin is voted on right? Kind of like a helms title.I could do without Sagarin or Helms voted on championships.

Got to admit, it was the best team I've ever seen play college basketball in my lifetime(started watching in late 70's).

The 96 team is One of the Greatest teams of all-time. It's arguable who is #1, but that team is in the conversation.
Like him or not, Pitino did assemble & coach that team. He did help get us out of a very dark time, prior to that team.

Yes the team should be honored!
And the players and coaches (including slick Rick) should be invited.
That does NOT mean we are honoring Pitino, but rather he was part of something bigger than him that was special.
Jail-bird Farmer was part of something special (Unforgetables), but his crimes against the state doesn't take away his role in that team either.

But I wouldn't beg him to come, nor pay any special honor solely to him.

Well, you killed your argument with that last word. Such can never be established as fact. Second, you dismiss the most wins in a single season in a tough year in history (now, that is a fact).
1996 Cats were the most talented college team period. They were not just the most talented UK team. They won the title and only lost two games, both to other Final Four teams, in an era when college basketball was MUCH better than today. It was still very rare for players to bolt to the NBA out of high school or after one year. Teams were just a lot better then than they are now. That is a FACT, whether you like it or not. One of the top players in basketball history was a senior that year and we beat him in the tournament. FYI, I'm talking about Tim Duncan.

Kind of sounds like your opinion stated as fact, not that theirs anything wrong with that.
