The problem is that no one actually knows. This isn't the first time eligibility concern has been brought up as Vitale about a month ago mentioned it and everyone here went ballistic. That was a real shoot the messenger as reality is there are questions existing. Plus, several people here responded saying it wasn't going to be a problem- like what they have to say somehow then makes it true. You see that in other threads but reality is that until a statement comes out from the NCAA or not, we won't know. In fact, some believe that the Humphries signing for this season versus next was that Cal may be covering his bases. Again, no one here really knows. We all will keep our fingers crossed.
My one other paranoid worry is that the NCAA does like to stick it to Cal and Kentucky. So if the ducks aren't all in a row with academic validity it could get dicey.
Here's another post that is simply false.
The NCAA has NOT shown a propensity to "stick it to Cal and UK". That's simply not true.
Noel. Bledsoe. Davis. Wall.
All 4 of those guys were involved in some sort of controversy and yet, Wall's 2 game suspension against scrubs is the only action the NCAA took.
For the millionth time, Enes Kanter did receive $33,000 to play ball overseas and his eligibility was put at risk when that happened.
Skal's situation is night and day from that situation and the person the OP alluded to stretched the truth for attention and hits. Skal hasn't been "cleared", but neither has any freshmen due to the fact that the NCAA hasn't even gotten to basketball players at this stage. His academics have also never been in question. It was some rumors being floated around Memphis (who just so happened thought they had Skal), about his guardian trying to get money for Skal's services, none of which has ever been substantiated.
My guess is the NCAA would like to stay away from messing with a Haitian earthquake victim who is an Honors student trying to make it in America.
