Just wondering how many Wordle addicts were on this board. If I’m awake around midnight I’ve got to stay up and solve the next day’s Wordle before turning in. And if so, what is your first word guess? Mine is usually WHITE. Spoiler - it worked out pretty well tonight. I love this game.

I do the same if I'm up late.

ADIEU is usually my first guess. It takes care of four of the five vowels right off the bat.

i do it first thing in morning. I start with A R I S E. Gives me three vowels and two very common consonants. Then next word, I try the O U if necessary, figuring there are usually two vowels. Wasn’t a good strategy today😊. I also use the strategy of ”The Wheel”. Trying to get R S T L N E in early words. I really get frustrated when I get the last four letters but still have 4-5 words that will work, but only have three guesses left. I tend to always pick the wrong words. However, there were still a couple left this morning when I solved it in four guesses. Also, the duplicate or, like a week or so ago, triplicate letters frustrate me.

I play when I remember to - I use various starters, arose, chaos, stern, etc. I also do ‘hard mode’ only.

I started 5 months ago and really enjoy this mind exercise. I probably put more time into this than most. I have a goal to solve in 3 guesses. I started out using paper to sketch out options, etc. but moved over to my Excel spreadsheet. I started out using RIOTS and CLEAN as they were the top 10 letters by frequency (in one source I found). After a few months I started to check the letter frequency of the game and H is more frequent than C so I now use TRAIL and SHONE. If I get zero or 1 letter out of those I often use DUMPY as my 3rd.
To further illustrate my 'anal'ytical approach, those letters in the 1st two words are as best as I could work out, not just with frequency but, by letter position. [It's always better to get a Green space than a Yellow when trying to solve.] I don't always stay with the second word every time, depending on the results of the first guess i.e. if two vowels hit the odds are reasonably good that there may be no more vowels needed. I don't think it's cheating, but I have a record of all the past words to eliminate the chance of guessing a word that's already been played.
No one has mentioned 'Burner' words yet i.e. using a word not as a solution guess but as a way to whittle down possible letters when there can be too many to eliminate by guessing one word at a time. For example, NYMPH is a common one.
Yeah. I got the time.

I play WAFFLE first, and use one of the 5-letter words from that for my first word for Wordle. I don't like using a set first word guess, as that usually makes it too easy to solve quickly. I like the little challenge boost the random starts brings to Wordle.

Waffle took a few games to figure out the pattern, but it also can be somewhat challenging at times. Some days, they throw in a word that is rather uncommon, at least to me.

After those two, I finish with Bulls & Cows, a number guessing game that has similarities to Wordle. It's a game I played back in HS with a buddy in study hall (on paper back then), so I was pleased to find it available on line after all these years. Moderately challenging.

Yeah, I play Waffle too.
For movie buffs (@Midnighter?), I also play Framed (pretty easy today unless it's out of your element)

Here's another one @LionJim:

Nerdlegame.com - the daily numbers game. Guess the NERDLE in 6 tries. After each guess, the color of the tiles will change to show how close your guess was to the solution. Rules: - Each guess is a calculation.

I play Wordle daily. Unfortunately I've changed my IP address a couple of times which wiped out the aggregated metrics. I'd say I'm about 98% with approx 180 games. I'm pretty conservative in strategy as I'm more concerned with solving within 5 tries than how many 2 or 3 try solutions I have.

If you enjoy the statistical analysis of Wordle, the NYT has Wordlebot that will break down your performance. It's behind a pay wall though.

Four of at work play M- F. We all start with the same word that we take turns supplying.

Also, there is a variation of wordle that you can play more than once per day

  • To play Wordle with your friends or strangers online, you can head to wordletogether.com.
  • The rules are simple – both of you have the same 5 letter word to guess and you get 6 attempts.

Yeah, every day. I use "stare" and also do "hard" mode. "Youth" is a good secondary word.

Anyone try Quordle? Four games at once. Highly recommended.

I resisted as long as I could but now play everyday. It's a family competition and it keeps us connected on a daily basis since we are not all in one location. Puts my mind at ease that the kids are okay.

I play Wordle, Quordle, Waffle and Nerdle off-and-on. Not every day, but when I have some time to kill. Like them all. Nerdle (figuring out a math equation) is definitely the hardest

Yeah, 247 Wordley is better than one puzzle per day. I would rack up crazy stats on there. Is NY Times charging for their daily puzzle yet?

I play the same words everyday.

POWER
CANDY
BULKS
FIGHT or MIGHT.

Your only looking at Q, V, X, Z. J and F or M left.

Never cared when I guess it but it's almost impossible to lose at that point. I've probably played the NY Times 40+ and never lost. I downloaded on my phone before that and it was just killing time. At this point, I play just to see if these words hold up.

Currently on a 130-day win streak. Almost got tripped up today as I had the last 4 letters correct thru 4 guesses but there were 3 possible outcomes for those 2 guesses. So I used a word on guess #5 that used letters to provide those 3 outcomes and when the letter lit gold, then I had the correct word on the final guess. The sphincter was getting a little tight on those last guesses.

every day, usually as soon as I wake up. Start with STARE. played 106 and have only missed once, and it was annoying, had 4 green on two, and still missed it as that many possibilities. current streak 68....
Always fun comparing results with my wife!!

Wordle is for the intellectually weak and lazy.

The daily NYT, WSJ* and LAT crossword puzzles are what separates us “higher thinkers” from you silly “5 letter tinkers”. 🤓

* The Friday WSJ puzzle is always a meta puzzle. Once you start….you’ll get addicted or perhaps you’re just lazy and won’t even try.

Adios. 😎
