Hey, Donald Trump wants to give high earners like me a tax cut. Kamala Harris wants to raise my taxes.

But I’ve worked hard and been very successful and don’t think that us wealthy American should pay a lower tax rate than teachers or fire fighters. Or goobs who pump gas like you.

You should be thanking me! I’m helping you help yourself! You’re welcome!

Good thing you don’t pay a lower rate than teachers. That is a total lie and fabrication.

Post your return and I’ll prove it to you.

What sort of sorcery is your CPA working with?

Because teachers and firefighters generally pay a single digit effective federal tax rate. Quick math on a single filer making $60K suggests they will pay a 9% federal effective tax rate, even before accounting for 401(k) or IRA contributions.

Meanwhile, I paid a 31.5% effective federal tax rate last year.

So how is it exactly that successful people are paying lower rates than teachers and firefighters? Are you just lying in your suggestion that you may have paid a lower rate than those people?

4 more years! 4 more years!

Kamala is Joe and Joe is Kamala. A couple of bozo's.

That was the softest of softballs. It was more like a tee-ball. Just sit this question right up here and you can go to town and distinguish yourself from Joe and the **** show of the last 4 years. Nope, she can't think of one thing she would do different. LololOLOLLollllOLLollol

Do you think that answer would have won her an open and contested primary? If she was in a debate with other Democratic candidates, like Josh Shapiro or Gavin Newsome or Gretchen Whitmire, would that answer have allowed her to win the primary?

Democrats should be pissed at their party.

He won’t debate again after Kamala crushed him the first time.

He pulls out of 60 Minutes and lies about why.

Kamala isn’t afraid to debate. Kamala isn’t afraid to be interviewed by 60 minutes.

Trump is a loser and a *****. Full stop.

Note that not one maga in this thread has defended the fact that trump pussed out of a second debate and a 60 minutes interview bc he didn't want to be fact checked.

Instead they have attacked you, posted videos of kamala, and called the government's response to a hurricane that has not hit yet a failure.

What makes me laugh is how often these same idiots post "answer mah question about kumala with using trump's name." Or @fatpiggy who used to multiple posts a day about how Kamala was not giving interviews, but now does not seem to have a problem with it.

Trump has done infinite more interview and press briefings than Kamala.

She went with the hiden biden strategy and it failed.

Direct your anger to her lack of confidence. If she had confidence she would have agreed to 3 debates when Trump offered them. She didn't. She only accepted one. Another total failure.

@ClemTigsCo following up on the math here. Please walk us through how you are paying a lower tax rate than teachers and firefighters. Or should we assume you are completely full of ****?

Where are you getting 9% from? I just tried a few income tax rate calculators and I am seeing an average of 22.5% for a teacher making $60K.

That is higher than the tax rate that I pay. But, I own businesses, so I also limit my W2 income per year and take much more as shareholder distributions.

A top marginal rate of 22%.

We are talking effective tax rate, what people actually pay.

Chat GPT says that teachers pay on average 10-15% effective tax rate. Depending on which state, this could vary +/- 5% (Since you are in NY, you can go ahead and assume the +5%)

Nice! You, me and chatgpt all agree that @scotchtiger is wrong.

My friend in Denver owns a $9MM roofing and construction company and pays a 7% effective tax rate last year despite earning well over $1MM. He introduced me to his CPA the other day. Thinking about making a switch.

So, to answer the original question, that is how high-income people can pay a lower tax rate than teachers.

Post the return paying 7% and we will see whats going on.

He has paid below 10% for the last ten years. I have not paid more than 19% in the last ten years, and I make a lot more money than you do. His line of business just allows him more write-offs and workarounds than mine does.

Trust me, there are many things you don't know jack **** about. This is one of them.

Pull up a tax calculator and plug in 60K annual income on a single filer. I did and it yielded a 9% effective tax rate.

And it seems you agree that there are business owners with extreme write offs paying low rates. So why raise rates on regular ole W2 guys like me paying 30%+ effective rates? That's what your party wants to do.

Type it in here: https://smartasset.com/taxes/income-taxes#j7yLmMDv2s

Top marginal rate = 22%

Effective federal rate = 9.1%

I was just proving that it is very possible for high-income people to pay a lower rate than teachers. And no, business owners should not be taxed more. We are the ones who took risks and started to businesses to employ w2 earners. I ate a **** sandwich for years after starting my first business while my w2 high earning friends all took trips together that I could not afford to go on.

I have said before that I think the $400K threshold should be higher, and I think it will have to be for President Harris to get any new tax laws passed.
