Also, if you don't understand the history then you can't understand the war. Don't recall mentioning Hunter or Hillary in my response to you, Bill and Obama yes as they have significant roles here. My question still stands, why didn't Obama stop this in 2014 when it really started? You make a mention of Hitler invading Poland and how many lives would have been saved but you're not willing to acknowledge that Obama did sweet f*ck all when Russia took Crimea in 2014. Had the world come down with a heavy hand then, we likely aren't having this debate right now.
There is no justification for invading a country nowadays, zero. The point many are making though is we can't allocate billions of dollars without oversight given the corruption that plagued Ukraine since inception. The other point is why are the United States the most generous? Other countries aren't allocating nearly as much as we are. Why is the United States the most vested in this, what do we gain? Why are we also giving billions to the UN as they sit on the sidelines and watch?
While this war wages on, you've apparently missed the new relationships between Russia, China, Iran and India that have formed. Russia, China and Iran aren't new but India certainly is. There is a new alliance forming and that will be pointed against the US on the world scale at some point.
Below is a thread showing Igor Kolomoisky; who had/has a controlling stake in Burisma was funding unrest in Eastern Ukraine, hence my question around it being a front for the CIA. Also worth noting that he was the backer in Zelensky's election and very much affiliated with Zelensky's offshore assets.

Not suggesting he committed any but he potentially has knowledge of them as well as if Burisma was in fact, funding aggressions against Russia hence the importance of investigating him.

We are......we've been helping them start the conflict since 2014, right after we helped replace the government. I Will never understand anyone that lobbies for war that isn't willing to go fight in one. War is a horrible thing, you don't ever really come back from it.
Note that Ukraine started shelling Donbas 9 days before Russia invaded. Why would they do that while begging the world for help before Russia invaded?
Not sure what you're trying to prove but for the record:
- Ukraine is not the United States so the way they work with opposition parties is distinctly different than how it works here. Zelenskyy had good reasons for banning pro-Putin parties so you can't view it through our lens.
- I 100% agree that Obama screwed the pooch by not coming down harder when Russia invaded Crimea.
- I don't have a bit of problem with oversight of the funds we contribute to their cause.
- What does the new alliance between Russia and other countries have to do with our approach? Are you saying we should just let Russia have what they want so they won't have incentive to ally with other countries?
- Your following post still went into the abyss of conspiracies around Hunter, Burisma etc...I still don't see how any of that matters when discussing the current situation. Zelenskyy was democratically elected by the Ukrainians and he has been busting his *** to protect them ever since. When Biden offered him a chance to evacuate, he said "I don't need a ride, I need ammunition." He has been boots on the ground ever since, knowing he was an assasination target but he didn't care. He continually puts himself in harm's way to boost the morale of his troops and to show Russia that he will not be intimidated.
- Allowing him to fight this war helps to ensure that we won't have to fight Russia ourselves on European soil. He is doing us a huge favor at the cost of tens of thousands of Ukrainian lives and we ought to do everything in our power to ensure he wins, because this is our war too.

Ukraine isn't some great country either. But in this case, we SHOULD support them b/c they are working against an enemy country (Russia). Ukraine is the best thing that happened to us in a LONG time with Russia. Russia has lost a ton of people, money, and equipment there not to even mention that exactly NO ONE is scared of the Russian Army anymore. I mean if you can't logistically support and carry out an attack on a vastly inferior force that you share a border with, you have serious issues with styling yourself a world power.
I think Trump is pretty ambivalent on the whole Russia/Ukraine thing. He's said a few things, but if you can count on one thing with Trump, it's that his mouth will run away with itself. It's Tucker Carlsen that's convincing folks... He loves him some Putin and regularly tries to convince folks that he isn't so bad. As if that butcher doesn't work against US interests all the time.

Sure, that's an opinion. You're always going to be able to find some program or some idea that we shouldn't spend our money on. As far as its effect on our soft power and diplomacy, it's inherently difficult to quantify.

You suggest Ukraine is a democracy but that's true contradiction as you're ok with him legally removing political opposition which suggests that it's not a democracy, it also suggests that you're totally ok with the efforts to suppress and censor opposing parties which is scary for an American. Those opposing parties weren't all Putin supporters by the way, some just wanted a peaceful resolution to the war and make no mistake, a peaceful resolution could have been easily negotiated at any point before and just after they invaded and the world stood by and watched same as they did in 2014. Why would Zelensky nationalize all of the Ukrainian media outlets? Strange thing to do in a democracy, no?

Regardless of whether or not you agree or disagree with the cartel craziness, this is a massive security and humanitarian crisis unfolding IN OUR OWN COUNTRY.
We've had north of 2 million illegals enter the country this year. What happens when those folks can't find work, don't have money for food, no shelter, etc? We can't solve our own homeless problems now, take a tour of the Manhattan subways, Penn Station, Grand Central etc if you need some perspective. It's crazy to me that American's don't want to fix problems at home before they take on other parts of the world.
While I understand both sides of the aisle like to use negative current events as weapons, the border issues are not overstated. People seem to forget all of the noise about how our hospital systems were overrun during covid, not enough beds, can't see every patient etc.......well letting 2 million people and growing into the country will compound that issue. Hospitals, schools, food supply......etc. You know where all of the State covid funding went? Not to hospitals or infrastructure.
We are fighting a proxy war over a border demarcation dispute in another country while letting all of South America walk across our own borders. The irony is insane. The only funding you see in the Omnibus bill for Americans is related to gender studies, racism, LGBTQ museums, etc but tons and tons of American tax payer dollars flying out of the country for border related issues.

Our involvement in Ukraine is more about Taiwan and Chinese deterrence than it ever has been about defending democracy, NATO, biolabs, or our famous political crime families.
Boy everything is so cut and dry in your ideological box. Are you suggesting that if a country doesn't conform 100% to American values, we shouldn't help in their defense? They have different geopolitical challenges than we do, so again, you can't view everything through our lens.
Of course a peaceful resolution would be preferred but on whose terms? Sounds like you want Ukraine to capitulate and rollover to Russia's unwarranted aggression so we can all sing kumbaya and eat smores over a crackling fire. Do you really think that will bring peace and Russia will no longer threaten them or any other European countries? We are helping to destroy Russia's ability to wage war in the future and that helps the rest of their neighbors and ultimately us as well.

The US started spending money in Ukraine back in 1991 to establish "democracy", we made them choose between Europe and Russia when half the country lean towards Russia. The US doesn't give a **** about the Ukrainian people, they want modern weapons on Russia's border. This is about power. Proof is all over this video, especially with Nuland's leaked call pretty much showing we backed the coup to install a more anti-Russian govt.
Now you're a war strategist? What's pretty striking is that people that have never fought wars and very likely won't ever fight wars are lobbying for war.......ie, you. The images you posted make my point for me in respect to a peaceful end. War is tragic and heartbreaking, those images are what you see when there is a war. This war won't ever end unless they work with other world leaders to find an amenable way forward. What that means for Ukraine, I don't know but it certainly requires compromise on each end hence the need for world leaders to help. It's the same thing it required in 2014 when the US was more interested in unrest than peaceful compromise.
The bigger question is who's running the Ukraine.........is it them or is it the United States?

Compromise here means Russia gets a land grab and the current line of contact gets militarized to hell. The only point to be negotiated is how much Russia owes Ukraine in reparations.
How many Russian troops got chewed up trying to take Kyiv and Kharkiv to protect the Donbass? Does Russia get to invade Kazakhstan now because there are lots of Russian speakers there too?

Everyone is so hyper focused on Crimea they fail to understand this started well before Russia invaded in 2014. The advance of NATO to Russia's borders and the threat of the Ukraine becoming part of the European Union is had a huge helping hand in kicking off the tension. It was Russia that suggested a tri-party arrangement to allow Russia to remain as an equal trade partner and the European Union wanted to cut Russia out when the Ukraine was largely dependent on Russia for economic solvency up that point. Before 2013, almost 4 million Ukrainians worked in Russia and were allowed to send money back to the Ukraine to support their families. Seems like an awful lot of goodwill got eroded quite quickly with little reasoning as to why. Pressure from the US who was investing billions to insert democracy?
Now ask yourself why an overly liberal US govt would forcefully install a far right Ukranian govt that was anti Russia in the Ukraine in 2014? Why would they do that if there were any intentions to find some diplomacy and somehow agree to a model where Ukraine, the EU, Crimea and Russia could exist cohesively?
Russia certainly isn't innocent here, not by a country mile but you can't get to the root of the problem until you actually review the history and admit the US, the EU and the Ukraine made huge missteps here.
Look up Steven F Cohen on YouTube, very well respected expert on Russia, Ukraine, etc with a different perspective.
