That was my own immediate reaction, but this news should be taken as a prescient sign of the times. You make your own brand. Yeah, admiration and respect.Norfolk State??? Gotta admire the young man's marketing ability.
Serious question: How does he have time for all this?
What exactly is considered an NIL deal? Tournament fishing "pro staff" guys often get 10-20% off of products to promote a brand. If this kid is just getting minor discounts to promote products is that and should that really an NIL deal?![]()
Exactly. If the kid tweets a pic of an Arby’s Roast Beast Sammich with Horsey Sauce, does he get a free sammich?
Exactly.
remember when kids who played for a school actually had a connection to that school?
why would you follow a college team now?
I can understand that. I'm also a PSU grad, and two of my kids graduated from Schreyer as well.Well, I'm going to support Penn State teams because (1) it's my alma mater and that of multiple generations of my family, and (2) these kids could have gone and got NIL deals at any school they wanted, but they came to Penn State.
Note: my niece is starting at Penn State this fall. She's currently working on landing as many scholarships as she can. I don't hold that against her either.
Worth it!If the kid tweets a pic of an Arby’s Roast Beast Sammich with Horsey Sauce, does he get a free sammich?
Huh? Fly fishing guides typically get ~40% off rods and reels when they have a brand relationship in place. What exactly is considered an NIL deal? At least the kid won’t have to steal a sandwich from the Student HUB because he’s hungry.Exactly.
No problem here, I agree with you and wbcbus.I can understand that. I'm also a PSU grad, and two of my kids graduated from Schreyer as well.
Unlike many here, I'm also a fan of CJF. But for years now, I've watched as the sport that I loved became more about the money and the college experience of players became more and more isolated from that of the average student. Fans' appetite for wins (and the imaginary status they convey onto a fanbase) has created something that barely resembles what I loved about college sports. I guess NIL is just my last straw.
I don't expect everyone to agree, but that's where I am.
My thoughts also, MikeAt least these would seem to be real and in the spirit of NIL rather than payments to make a teeny weenie fanboy closer to getting bragging rights. Good for him.

The true professionals negotiate better deals than that. I'm talking about guys that are pro staffers, which actually means promotional staff.Huh? Fly fishing guides typically get ~40% off rods and reels when they have a brand relationship in place.
