We will get the attention if we win out, they don't respect Baylors sorry easy schedule.

They have the gauntlet to run as we do. Plus Texas....

The way I see it is ND needs to lose to Stanford or they're in.
tOSU and Iowa winner get's one spot, so we need an upset. Minny, please beat IA.
Clemson has to worry about North Carolina. Probably in.
Alabama beats a weak Florida team in the SEC cg.

Pac 10 and Big 12 are predicted to be left out. That's pretty much what the talking heads are predicting.

Well, even if OU wins out, I've already ceded we'll get totally punked by the powers that be.
Then I can say to myself..."I knew it!"

Then, if that doesn't happen and we get the recognition and opportunities we deserve...it's all the more sweeter!
It's win win!

Even so, OU is going to need teams ahead to lose. OU simply winning out won't get it done alone.

IF Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama and Notre Dame win out as we all hope OU does, the Sooners will end up like TCU and Baylor did last year. BillyRay is right. One, or even better two, team(s) that are currently rank 1,2,3 and 5 must lose before the end of the season.

I don't think that is a certainty, though it is surely likely.

Just remember that last year, that TCU was ahead of Ohio State in every listing before the last one. It might depend on how impressive any particular win out is.

I think it would be a lot easier if Stanford beats ND, for sure. We'll see. There is still a long way to go.

I think an OU team carries a little more weight in the world of college football than BU and TCU..

That's the thing...with the Big XII having no CCG, OU is guaranteed to be sitting at home while teams in other conferences are making that last impressive win to win out.

That's great. But does OU carry enough weight to jump over teams like Notre Dame, Ohio State, Alabama or Clemson if those teams win out??

Bottom line is, OU needs a lot of help outside of just winning out. OU needs teams to lose.

Yep, you're right William Raymond...
Nothing has changed in that respect.
As far back as 1975, OU didn't have a prayer for playing for a national title until, and I really loved this one, the #1 and the #2 team both lost early New Years Day, 1976.

All OU had to do is defeat Michigan in the Orange Bowl that night and they'd get a fifth National Title.
Indeed, we did do that.

So, my point is just let this play out of its own volition.

If it's meant to be, we'll get '8'.
All the posturing isn't going to affect it one bit.
Relax...

ND has beat Temple, USC and Navy. Lost by 2 to Clemson with a top Stanford to go.

If we win out, our schedule should win out. Baylor, TCU, OSU and Tennessee. The committee has to be looking at our bad Texas loss. ND drummed them........

The Clemson loss is a better loss than the horns..............

Exactly. Too many appear to be listening to the SEC announcers...I mean the ESPN announcers, that are compelled to pimp one of their biggest "donors".

IF Clemson and OSU win out, no way OU can pass them. However, an OU team that defeated 2 top 5 teams (Baylor, OSU) and a top 15 team (TCU) at the end of the season AND have a strong SOS and the computers love...have a chance to pass ND and/or Bama.

It may not matter as these things have a way of taking care of themselves. Breath in, breath out, breath in, breath out...

So you really think OU can jump all these teams that are above them now if these same teams win the rest of their regular season games AND Clemson, Ohio State and Alabama win the extra CCG? Then a Notre Dame team that only lost to Clemson goes and wins against probably the PAC 12 champion Stanford? My reference to Baylor and TCU had nothing to do with the weight they carry versus the Sooners. My point is OU will be in the same condition as the two other Big 12 schools were last year. A one loss team that didn't earn its conference title on the field by winning that extra CCG or losing (Notre Dame) only to one of the best undefeated teams in America verus losing to a rotten Texas Longhorn squad. Not having a CCG is a losing proposition for any one loss Big 12 team UNLESS a lot of ranked teams above them lose late in the year. If OU wins out, all it will take is for one of those higher ranked teams to stumble, but it has to happen. JMO.

I just hope we're still having this conversation after Saturday night. No one that we beat is currently ranked, and the team that beat us is abysmal. Even if we're fortunate enough to win the last three, none of those teams have a quality OOC win...... and where they're ranked in the human polls doesn't seem to matter much.

Good points. Actually Baylor could be the only other quality win for the Sooners. By the time OU plays TCU and OSU both could have already loss which would move them down in the rankings. So I think OU not only has to win, the Sooners needs to dominate. It really would be better if OSU is undefeated when we play them, but that's hard for me to wish for.

There is a significant difference between last year and this year. Last year the Big 12 was all about two teams: TCU and Baylor. And Baylor lost to West Virginia while TCU blew a large lead in Waco and just barely lost to the Bears. Those two teams had the same kind of weak non-conference schedules as this year, and nobody else to challenge them in conference play. OSU and OU just plain weren't very good.

This year four of the top teams in the country reside in the Big 12, not two. Not one other team in the country has had or will have a stretch of games as difficult as OU at Baylor, home against TCU, and at OSU.

It's possible that OU wouldn't make the CFP with a record of 11-1, but I view such a circumstance as highly unlilkely, because OU's strength of schedule will top the country, and the Big 12 got shafted last year in spite of the fact that the conference overall was considerably weaker than in the current year.

This Big 12 is the only power conference that determines their champion on the field and NOT through a CCG.

If the Sooners win out, we will be in the playoffs even over the Domers. We'll trump the Domers because we are a conference champion plus our SOS will be better.

You should fully expect 1 loss Notre Dame in over one loss OU. This is from the committee website.

"The four teams that go to the College Football Playoff are determined by the College Football Playoff Selection Committee. The selection committee chooses the four teams for the playoff based on strength of schedule, head-to-head results against common opponents, championships won and other factors."

Head to head against common opponents is huge advantage Notre Dame.

Then you better hope OSU stays undefeated. Because Bedlam is the same weekend as the Stanford/ND game. If both those teams win out till that game, the winner of that game very likely gets in.

I think OU wins out their in. If you don't agree I'm more optimistic. :)
