I'm not so sure about that to be honest.

Someone else a good while back posted the final recruiting rankings of each class for Muschamp vs Beamer and Muschamp out recruited Beamer.

I think in a BLIND RANKING - we could have a top 5 class and as soon as the "experts" saw it was us with the class, they'd drop it to about #15-20 - just because.

Top 20 is good, especially if you keep doing that so you can build. By SEC standards however, not good.

There really just two questions:

First, How good is this staff doing at evaluated talent? Forget the star ratings, are there real football players in there?

Second, what can you do with what you have?

Having a class ranked 12th in the SEC is discouraging on its face , but when the SEC has 12 teams compressed into the top 19 in the nation, that tells me there's probably a lot of hair splitting between those rankings. There's a big difference between being 12th in your conference and 42nd nationally and being 12th in your conference and 19th nationally. It means the difference between the 12th ranked class in our conference and the 7th ranked class in our conference may be as slim as one guy who doesn't qualify academically, or one key player who never pans out due to injuries, etc. And the gap probably slim enough that factors like getting the players you actually need may be more important than absolute star rankings.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see our classes ranked in the top half of the conference, but if we're pulling in top 20 talent now, that means we should expect to be competitive with just about anyone.

I try to not get to caught up on the stars even though it's normally a pretty good indicator of how talented a kid is. That being said, I would take an entire class of 3 stars that just wanted to play for South Carolina.

When I look at recruits, I look at their *s and offer lists. Sure, some 3*s work out. So do some 2*s. But far and away, you don’t see Bama, uga, OSU bringing in 3*-heavy classes. There are 5*s who are busts. But more often than not, championship teams sign mostly high-star players.
As long as we continue to sign average classes, we’ll have average results.

Sellers was a 4 star real late in the game. A lot of people didn't realize what he was until his Senior Year. Only had offers from Virginia and Syracuse for a long time. I had never heard of him until South Florence spanked Southpointe (Rock Hill) like 42-7 three years ago. No team in 4A ever does that. From there, everyone in the know as far H.S. Football in this state was like who in the heck is this QB that ran all over Southpointe.

About where we have been the last few years as well, and we see the results this year, top 3 finish in the SEC don't buy into BS rankings from people like the ones that sit in that CFP committee room!! Beamer knows what we need and who can play!!

We did fill some some big needs with this class, I think we got Five 4-star WR’s counting Sellers. They won’t all be good, but surely at least 2 will. Portal will be crucial, as we all know. The freshman defensive players won’t be up to competition level, maybe one or two.
