Colossal blunder. I know he's taken full blame for the call, as he should, but has he offered any explanation for it? Some things are just textbook in football. This is one of them. In this scenario, 100% of the time, you go victory formation, run out the clock, get the W. I can't think of a single plausible reason why you'd run it here.

No valid reason...he mentioned something about trying to pick up a first down. But there was no need for a 1st down if you just kneel as there wasn't enough time for GT to even get the ball back. At the end of the day, he just didn't understand the situation. Or maybe he had a bet on his RB going over 100 yds?? As crazy as that sounds, it's more plausible than a HC that's been around as long as he has not knowing the situation.

They still gotta play UNC, Clemson, FSU and Louisville. They were not in a position to quite literally give a conference win away. They will likely to drop to 0-2. Could have set themselves up with a classic, old-school matchup with FSU.

Just crazy. Wins are so precious in college football. This wasn't just a bad play call that backfired or the right call at the wrong time or whatever. Coaches roll the dice all the time.

I think football is the one sport where a team has total control like this at the end of the game. In basketball, the other team can foul and try to mount a comeback, even if a long-shot miracle. In baseball, you still gotta get 27 outs, no matter the score. In football, taking a knee at the end to run out the clock presents the one situation where the opposing team is 100% helpless. The only potential wildcard is if they were to fumble the snap. Outside of that, there's simply nothing you can do.

How you screw that up is simply beyond me. And he's done it twice.
