We are about to find out with the game at UConn coming up....especially with them losing to Michigan. We have a good team but a bunch of stuff to clean up and work on, which means there is upside.
I think it's fair to say that the team, at least offensively speaking, is playing way below its talent level in these first 2 games. The one concern many of us had was how the team would operate defensively with the loss of Hannah and KF. I think those questions are mostly answered. McKenna isn't as strong, but she is long and looks just as athletic. The guards are more athletic as well. Iowa will be fine on the boards and the defensive end.

On the offensive end McKenna is a massive upgrade over Hannah and Dani is a massive upgrade over KF. The 4 best offensive players from last year all returned. This team should be much improved offensively. With that said, the offense has struggled mightily the first 2 games against really bad teams with poor shooting and high numbers of turnovers. Ava should thrive in this situation but one of the most efficient scorers in the country is putting up shots at half the rate she was last year these first 2 games. McKenna has played lights out but every guard has looked like they're still trying to figure things out on the offensive end. It's really early, but Jan needs to figure things out and how to get everyone on the same page or it's going to be a struggle when the competition ramps up. The talent is there to have a great year. The level of play isn’t there yet.

Hannah's issues were that she works best as a tandem player......and our guard play has been lacking since Caitlin left.

Lucy Olsen was a great scorer as a guard, but just wasn't the same kind of distributor that CC is (not that anyone is, but........)

And last year's mess I put more on Jan, so the jury is still out on whether our overall guard play has improved/"upgraded" this year.

It’s somewhat amusing that before the season it seemed most posters felt it would take some time for things to jell with new players and a new offense, Now that the season has started It seems some are surprised things aren’t clicking on all cylinders after two games. Patience is indeed a virtue.

Hannah's issues were that she couldn't shoot beyond 4 feet and we already had a dominant post.

Last year's "mess" went 27-7 and 15-3 for a second place Big10 finish, and if you don't think that Dani, Whiting, and Faison aren't a huge talent upgrade over Kylie, McCabe, and Deal, then I don't know what to tell you.

Yeah and when the Minnesota Vikings were 6-0, they were the best team in the NFL...........If you disagree, then I don't know what to tell you.

I don’t think anyone would dispute the talent offensively is better this year. I would debate the defensive talent however. Kylie is tough to replace, and I believe Michigan would agree with that after last years games. I’m a huge believer in culture, chemistry and cohesiveness of a team. That as been the identity of Hawkeye basketball for years. I don’t see this yet. It’s early and may take a couple of knock downs to see how we respond. I will remain patient and not jump off the highest building I can find until late in the season.

I'll only jump off if we lose in the 2nd Rd at Carver to another f***ing Creighton type team or get dominated by a 12-25 range team in the Sweet 16 again.........................
