Or they got a new computer and couldn't remember the password. But you're right, I probably changed specifically to hide that I was previously several variations of "RutgersHouston." That's why when my first account was suspended 20 years ago (for saying Schiano was a terrible gameday coach), I hid my identity by signing up again as RutgersHouston2.

You're such a know-nothing dope. But at least you are caustic about it!

Weren't you also Sunset Regret?

Between our NIL/Rev Share and operational spend, 9th seems about right in overall investment.

Greggo isn’t sleeping well after reading that and all coaches are on notice.
I doubt we're that high in the B10. We're the poorest school in the B10 with one of the lowest athletic donations from alums by a significant amount. I thought she was using 9th as a hypothetical. Anyway, last year bad, this year a disaster. Wonder where we ranked on his two 7-5 years. Still think it's a coins toss if he gets let go, mainly because of financials, what he's owed and how thin the major donor base.

Google operation expenses of Big Ten teams. It’s not hard. We have an army of people on staff. Far more than most other teams. That costs money.

Yes, at one point I was both SunsetLament and SunsetRegret.

To the best of my recollection ...

My original username was RutgersHouston (there was also a "Rutgers-Houston"; that is not me). That one was suspended (under the previous regime), sometime around 2007 because I said I didn't think Greg was a good game day coach. The previous board owner/manager said something to the effect of (paraphrase) "Yes, I believe in free speech, but you're aggravating the board regulars by repeatedly criticizing Schiano, so I'm giving you a timeout." I'll let everyone figure out who one of the belligerent board regulars who was virulently defending Schiano was. I think this was the image that finally did it.

SportsMeme03.png

Then I signed up as RutgersHouston2. That one was suspended the week we announced we were first wearing all-black uniforms. I pointed out on the board that Schiano had previously said we'd never have black uniforms as long as he was coach, and that he was a freaking liar ... and I was promptly suspended. That may or may not have been around the time I had an avatar of Schiano wearing pink pajamas (the salmon jammies) because I hated the pink "all-red" uniforms we were wearing, too.

After that, there was definitely a RutgersHouston3 at some point. I believe I just lost the password to that when I switched computers.

Then there was SunsetLament. That username was the one that I believe was suspended for pointing out that Rutgers had likely committed a federal crime in the hiring process that resulted in Julie Hermann because they hired her due to her gender and sexual orientation. That account was "blacklisted" for positing this ...

and

SportsMeme16.png

Around the same time, I had SunsetRegret as a username that I used on my phone. When I finally started posting again (after the message board switched hands and that kiss-*** a-hole left for "better" pastures), I was using that username. And then my phone broke and I lost the password for that account.

And that's how I wound up with the account I currently use. Or ... none of this is true and I have just been on a 20 year crusade to hide my anonymous identity from AreYouNuts. It's either one or the other. I'm sure everyone will find this fascinating.

Think that one of the guys in the post game presser needs to ask Greg:

Greg- your boss, Keli Zinn, said on podcast "If we are investing in your roster and facilities and operations and salaries at ninth in the league, you should perform at ninth in the league. ... If all of those things put you ninth in the league and you're performing 14th, there's a problem there."

What do you have to say in response to that?

This is easy. “We’re 14th in NIL and 18th in facilities. Nevertheless, A lot of new kids saw action for the first time, especially in our defensive secondary, and they made a positive contribution, so I’m excited for what the future holds. We’re not where we want to be, but we are working hard to build a team that the fans deserve.”

It is likely the program won’t win another game this season, maybe a last hurrah vs MSU. I just don’t see how the AD can retain GS after a 2-10 season. Zinn stated publically that improvement from last year’s 5-7 team was necessary. No change after this debacle is essentially admitting that RU is unable to compete in football in the B1G. That certainly would give credence to those who state that RU should not be in the conference.

WOW. Speaks volumes!!! Let me remind everyone: neither she nor Tate have uttered a single word, in support of Greg, all season long. NADA.
Two very significant points are this, not a single word of support and the second point, when that recruit decommitted last week and said his concern was the lack of coach stability in the program and still nothing in support of GS. I know sometimes the vote of confidence usually is followed by the firing, but when there is a buzz from recruits that Rutgers has an unstable coaching situation and nothing is done to squash it, that's a good sign of what is coming. You know GS went to her when that happened and pointed that he needed support for recruiting and he didnt get it.

Estimated Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) and football roster spending across Big Ten schools for the 2026–27 season combine direct school revenue-sharing (under NCAA House settlement frameworks) and third-party commercial NIL/collectives.

Estimated Big Ten Football Roster Spending (2026–27)
Per data from NIL-NCAA, total estimated football roster costs (combining \$15,600,000 in direct school revenue sharing with third-party NIL) range across the conference:
  • Top Spenders (Total Roster Cost):
  • Oregon: \$43,405,000 (\$27,805,000 third-party NIL) Ohio State: \$40,421,000 (\$24,821,000 third-party NIL) Southern Cal (USC): \$34,728,000 (\$19,128,000 third-party NIL) Michigan: \$32,964,000 (\$17,364,000 third-party NIL) Penn State: \$29,208,000 (\$13,608,000 third-party NIL)
  • Mid-Tier Spenders:
  • Nebraska: \$27,440,000 | Indiana: \$27,253,000 | Washington: \$26,357,000 | Wisconsin: \$24,484,000 | UCLA: \$24,332,000 | Maryland: \$23,720,000 | Iowa: \$23,649,000 | Michigan State: \$23,115,000
  • Lower-Tier Spenders:
  • Minnesota: \$22,575,000 | Illinois: \$21,854,000 | Rutgers: \$21,321,000 | Northwestern: \$21,035,000 | Purdue: \$20,367,000
  • Conference Median: \$24,408,000 total (\$15,600,000 revenue sharing; \$8,808,000 third-party NIL).
As stated by someone, you aren't telling the whole story Zinn is telling. Either way, if an AD is stating in a public appearance where they stand in spending, I'd be more inclined to take that as truth vs some person making estimates on the internet.

We pumped up the operational expenses because it was taking more effort to recruit our classes, and it was the only lever that could be pulled. Especially because we are lacking in capital expenses and NIL.
Greg hired his sons to hold clip boards and then gave them raises because we lack capital expenses and NIL?
baby GIF

Here's a news flash Al, half of the coaches and half of the support staff could have been fired during training camp and we'd still have the same record we have today. Bang up job by all 120+!!!!

Whatever. We are at the top end of operational expenses and getting next to the worst results.

Schiano sucks.

So many self proclaimed know-it-alls on this site think they know more than our AD who has 100x more and more accurate data than all of us combined.

If she says we are 9th then we are 9th. Period. Everyone just be quiet and trust she knows what she’s doing when she talks about investment.

None of us know anything.

I am waiting for the classic vote of confidence from the A.D.… As soon as that happens, you know his *** is about to be canned
I know that’s often said facetiously as the kiss of death but the impression I get from her interviews, this one included, is that she’s a straight shooter. You know where you stand and what you have to do. No BSing or empty votes of confidence.

Do people not understand the financial situation? Let's see what happens, but if he is still after this season it's because they could not find the money to get rid of him. If they do find the money watch how many will complain about Rutgers wasting money on athletics.. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I think the big ten is invested in Rutgers becoming a good program so things may happen. Although the college football bubble may soon burst. Especially with kids dying on the field recently..
While buyouts are a consideration and not a small amount of money- the University and the Football program is not going to close up shop if that happens this up coming Monday. The bigger danger to our program is doing noting- the financial reality Keli faces is that we lose more money each year by keeping him than the single hit by getting rid of him.

You’re an idiot if you don’t realize what message she is sending. A complete idiot.
I love my buddy Al - and have defending his quirks for years- but at this point, there is no way to continue doing so. Al, my friend, you mult threads and mult posts have come completely unhinged and just not making sense anymore.

I agree with nuts here- Keli was very clear and I have no issue with the harshness of the reply to Al.

IMO the goal is to achieve notable and meaningful results and that IMO is winning conference records and rankings every so often. That pretty much means about 8 wins or more in those type of years. In the future with a 24 team playoff a ranking can just about get you a CFP berth. If you're not trying to do at least that much and have that as a goal, what's the point of the tens of millions of dollars spent on coaches and players. There has to be desire for something notable and meaningful.

Can that kind of result be realistically expected next year? This year was a perfect opportunity to take advantage of the B10 being down, not many world beaters out there this year in the conference. 7 years and it hasn't happened yet and the conference record is bad, not mediocre (a word that I think is thrown around but doesn't always apply). Only Locksley (made it to year 8) and Wilcox (to year 9) lasted longer without a winning conference record and were both fired mid season in the last year of their tenures. Did the extra time help anything or change anything? When you get to that point in your tenure, there's more than enough of a track record to see the trajectory.

So the comparison to me is what's the difference in cost between a firing this year and next year, assuming your goal is that winning conference record and at least 8 wins. Weighing that difference against the opportunity cost of waiting a year, ticket, sales, marketing opportunities etc.. is what you look at and then judge.

I've said this before, it's not to say a firing leads to some panacea. The next coach could be an Ash or Schiano or something better. We don't know but a fan's best friend is hope and there is hope in the unknown. Also as fan you want to feel like you're trying alternatives rather than just being stuck. Even if you keep failing, try again and again but I don't see the point of just spinning your wheels doing the same thing.
