just read the post that are out there. It isn’t criticism, it’s like children kicking and screaming because things aren’t what they want and there is a lot of hate. Open your eyes or better yet invest in a pair of reading glasses, there’s so much hate on this board that it’s ridridiculous
I haven't seen any on this thread. As long as it's not personal, critiquing his performance is fair game. If one can accept praise when they have a good game, they should be able to accept critique when they don't. Beyond that, there is swath of people on here, with some just being a holes in real life, or drunk etc. It's hardly a representation of the large majority here. I'm particularly fascinated why some of you on here take it as a personal job to try and police it. That's futile. Am I way off base, or is this a participation trophy generation thing?

I was referencing last nights game thread, 5 minutes in and people were already dogging him and the team.

Last night was the first I’ve seen this years version of the cats and as a PG I was not impressed at all with Zoom. He’s not a bad player he’s just not what you want as a PG as he doesn’t facilitate the offense and ended up with twice as many turnovers as assist (2), which is the same amount Moreno had.

And they are paid mercenaries now. People still pretending they "kids" and cant be critiqued for play is crazy to me.
with 3 exhibition games under their belt, and a practice season that starts earlier than ever, and more summer ball than ever. it was the first game of the season, but its not the first game of the season if you know what i mean.

almost at no point during the 4 games played so far has the starting 5 looked good together. its only looked good when there were some changes in the lineup.

i know its a small thing....but there were 13 other SEC games played the first 2 days of the season. in those games, 10 SEC teams scored more points that UK. and florida played miami to open. and lets not pretend manhattan is some sleeper good team.

He needs to be involved in the paint with smaller guards. Coming off the bench. Will have to many TO’s to be in the starting lineup. Williams has a much higher ceiling. My humble opinion.

even though it's a zoom thread, I'll just say this : the money we paid Momcilovic looks extremely well spent. He stood out on day one across the country for his stat line and looks like an all american.

.... just sayin'....

I'm looking at the positives here and thinking back to the game when Zoom and Wilkins were getting Mom the ball when he was open.

I like Zoom's length and I want to see energy to defend and rebound to go with his size. Period. He stepped into the lane for some nice steals, swipes. It's still feeling out his best general purpose role out there.

Wilkins is a shooting guard but good PG, Williams is a stud (shh)

I had doubts about how well he would ultimately fit in, but now, I see the light at the end of that upside tunnel. I hope people will chill out and give him his chances. We need him bigtime.

I still think Mason will take us further but if he plays like he did second half and late in the first he can be a nice piece. He has the size to really guard SEC guards and wings. That should be his calling card to me.

Why don't you talk about the two nice dish assist and finishing at the rim was noticely better too. Some just look for the negatives to dwell on
Not sure if anyone has to look or dwell to find issues with his game. The people that get on here to just trash Pope and the people that cry when anyone states an obvious fact that happens to be negative are equally annoying.

Diallo lacks basic fundamentals to play the point guard position. His handle is flawed to the point he was called for double dribble while bringing the ball up court by himself with no one guarding him.His passing is subpar and he doesn't keep the ball moving.I wish him well and hope he continues to improve but right now wilkins is the best option.

So points scored in game one can determine something?

I think folks are too worked up about Zoom. He doesn’t have to be “the dude” on this team.

Don’t need him to score 16 per. He’s talented enough to have some big stretches and probably will but the fate of the team and season is not reliant on Zoom being some super star.

We got 4-5 guys who can score and be in the star neighborhood.

If Zoom starts getting buckets something has either gone wrong with the others, or we’re going 40-0. Legitimately. If He pops off and starts to be a guy this team could be explosive.

Need him to use his size on D to body other guards and frustrate them. Then on O if he can just not turn it over, facilitate to the other guys, and take advantage of opportunities that will come via teams prioritizing MM, Moreno, Wilkins, Williams…

Someone mentioned that Zoom compared to Deandre Liggins, and I thought that was a great comp. IIRC, Liggins was also initially tabbed a PG coming out of HS, but his skills translated so much better to focus on being a good guard/wing defender while being an opportunistic offensive player.

It's been a long time since Liggins played, but from my memory, I think Zoom is probably a little better attacking off the dribble, but Liggins may have been a better outside shot (at least later in his career). Regardless of those minor difference, seems like a Liggins role would allow Zoom to flourish more.

Yeah if he could develop his shooting like Liggins did and embrace defense he could be.

He just needs to play defense, distribute the rock, knock down the open 3 or use his speed and length to get to the rim, and not try to be one of the main focal points of the offense. He's playing with a better all-around roster now. Your role is different. You aren't a 28% usage guy here. That should be more around 22% or 23% tops. Instead of trying to do more when he struggles he should try to do less and take what the defense allows. If that's to pass the ball and get 11 or 12 assists then just do that.

My fear is pope continuing to push Zoom as the starting PG. So many coaches, especially after coaching for many years, get tunnel vision and cannot see the obvious. Zoom is not a PG. Aberdeen made for a better PG than Zoom did. The longer Pope keeps pushing this the longer it will be for this team to reach their maximum potential whatever that looks like.

I suspect he will be used as a cutter more than he has ever been in his career since he's playing with other capable ball handlers. It will take some time for him to learn the new role. He's going to have to shift from getting the ball and trying to figure out how to set someone up to getting the ball and trying to score in 2 dribbles.

To me it’s not even about being paid or not paid. It’s just that there is such a small sample with Zoom here.

it’s crazy to me to criticize over 4 games, 3 of which many like to point out are “meaningless”

I agree personal stuff is uncalled for but everything about their play is more than fair game now. Especially so when we massively overpay and you massively under deliver.

All this drama and whining after you roll in a blue McLaren just does not bode well.

There’s no need to be ugly towards the young man but if you’re going to fairly critique his performance, his grade to this point would be very low. Even in his “better” game against Manhattan, his major flaws were very much still on display.

I’ll be rooting for him and cheering for him but that doesn’t mean he’s been good up to this point.
