Just a weird year for Carolina field hockey.
Really should have ended in regulation.
Just made too many mistakes.

early whistle cost us a goal and we whiffed on penalty shot. Plus i’d say their goalie stopped 2-4 shots we wouldn’t have stopped
And while some of it is self-inflicted, we likely win this if that whistle isn’t called..
Or if we make the stroke… some days just aren’t ours. We’ve had several this year

2nd missed stroke this year with about 2 mins to get that would have won the game.
Is this true? ESPN crawl showed us ranked 7th before the shootout loss today.
Saves could have been made in the run of play and weren't.
Defense and midfield problems showed up again. Did you notice how easily they were able to repeatedly pass from their end to ours without being picked off?
Hope this isn't the end of the year, but definite assistant coaching changes needed for next year.

Or maybe some of that can be fixed with a full staff as Romea Riccardo Hutchinson hasn’t been available since September due to maternity leave.
I hope you're right. But, as many issues as we have had all year, I'm not sure she's going to fix all of them by being around more.
While defense could have been better, we locked them down the whole second half. Defense wasn’t perfect, but it isn’t why we lost this game. We limited heavily from being in the attacking circle.
We just didn’t execute enough. Had a lot of chances to score.
Just hurts knowing we would have won if it wasn’t for an early whistle or Heck converting on a stoke the she would have 95% of the time.
I think a lot of us have spoiled with seeing this team just be perfect and not make mistakes. That doesn’t happen often in sports and I think this year is showing us there is more parity in the sport.
I’m not worried about the program one bit.
I do think we need to bring in another goal keeper this off-season. Do think that has been a weakness this year.

What I know about the game of FH couldn't fill a thimble, but I do know that this team has been wildly inconsistent, which is new to UNC field hockey, at least since I can remember. With the return of the three 5th-year all-stars, it looked like we'd have some clearer sailing, but that hasn't happened. Just feels like something more structural is off than in past years. Really pulling for Erin to figure it out and get it fixed.
UNC Family observation- I went to Tues and Wed games and saw coaches from various other UNC sports, athletes from baseball, softball, men and women's lacrosse, men and women's soccer and I am sure other sports whose athletes I am not familiar with. And they didn't just show their face they were invested and cheering heavily. It's great to see how other sports support other sports. At many schools I have been to it's mainly football and men's basketball only that others support. #UNCFamily

At the end of this season, I am sure that EM will evaluate everything including assistant coaches because that it what outstanding programs do. I am sure that she could go and ask Karen S for her input as well.
