I’d like to know the factors used to come up with those numbers. I’m guessing our results the last few years carry a lot of weight.

The most interesting one to me is that we are favored against Syracuse at a neutral site. But in general, I think these percentages will improve quite a bit by the end of December.

The prediction is 10-20/ 1-19 B1G. The other Players Era game they don't know the opponent yet, but with their metrics you could probably chalk it up as a loss and make it 10-21.

If that came to fruition it would only rival the Rutgers 2015-16 team for worst B1G team ever. I highly doubt this will be the outcome or even come close to it.

No, it’s not. You have to add up all the probabilities. It’s 13 to 14 wins depending on the other 2 Vegas matchups.

Unproven players
Unsteady coaching situation
Bringing back a core of team that was lousy

...and yet I feel like 17-13 is more likely than 13-17.
Star high usage players albeit from a lower level with talent and something to prove

A tough driven assistant coach filling in for a player’s coach who is still out there trying to motivate players (Rutgers Tough) with a life threatening cancer

Bringing back the core group of players who got the prior year team to 14 wins with a frontcourt that clearly wasn’t capable of competing in the Big Ten

Portal transfers capable of competing in the Big Ten in the front court.

Nothing is proven yet but after the two exhibitions games, the scenario I’m suggesting is the more likely one in my stubborn, obstinate and largely uninformed opinion.

Although adding up the probabilities does provide a quick approximation of the likely wins that is considered a highly accurate estimation, as you are probably aware, you must use Poisson binomial distribution or a dynamic programming algorithm to calculate the exact probability of every possible outcome. Given the extraordinarily high level of mental capacity, reasoning power and cognitive ability demonstrated by the fine people who post on this forum, I wouldn’t want them to question your response simply because it was somewhat inexact.

The prediction model does not factor in the RAC noise level.
Play well early in the season and a packed deafening RAC noise level returns this year for the Big Ten Schedule.

well much more than that - like so many other teams in college basketball - this is a whole new roster - they have no clue how/ whether team is gonna gel, if some kids will exceed expectations, etc etc

In this age of rampant free agency - I think an interesting study would be to compare the relative accuracy of pre-season ratings before and after this change to NIL/ free agency.

I would hypothesize that preseason prognostications are more inaccurate now than they used to be (even with the aid of AI, etc)
