One of the biggest frustrations of Schiano 2.0 is the clear lack of accountability he holds himself to. The Schianoistas may say, “he does hold himself accountable, he says it’s on him and he has to do better.” That is just some platitude with no substance he says to check the box and do nothing.

Real accountability would be him saying “hey I know we need to do a better job of identifying talent so we will be improving the process by doing x, y, and z.”

Or, “our offense has stalled so we identified ways to improve it like using motion or etc this game.”

or anything else specific that shows he has identified the short comings of his process / program and is implementing targeted changes.

I can’t imagine Zinn wants Schiano here anymore but maybe her hands are tied at the moment. If I am her, I am hiring my own GM that controls the funds. Schiano no longer has earned the right to control the money when he has shown he doesn’t know how to allocate it efficiently. I am also protecting the department by telling Schiano that his staff headcount will be middle of the pack big ten. Schiano’s entitlement ends immediately and maybe that lights a fire under him and he actually makes some improvements.

He’s the smartest guy in the room. They only reason his teams suck is because they can’t understand his greatness.

Greg's mental block is related to fact he got successful on great teams using systems that were on their way out. The aggressive defenses against traditional pro style offenses were at their peak when he was at Miami (where he had payers like Ed Reed). The defenses worked for awhile at RU . Ray Rice made GS look good (see the years of his awards) but truth is the aggressive, turnover seeking defenses saved a lot of games in 2006. RU was losing to UConn in 06 until defense got turnovers in late quarter . GS had real successes but his foundation was already crumbling under him and the spread offenses were keeping him down .

Along the way GS was seeing ticket sales going up 15-20% a year. He got building improvements and eventually got stadium expanded and then into B1G. Greg is greatly responsible for looking good to B1G. Greg was not a bad coach - the game just passed him over and he cant adjust despite reality being obvious to others. Greg 1.0's BE stint was a good one for most part. His approaches just flop in B1G. But its hard for him to move beyond things that made him successful

You’ll never see a coach taking accountability for the lack of talent because he’s the one responsible for acquiring the talent. Instead, he’ll say something like, “ we Need to do x better. We need to coach better. We need to execute our assignments.” Or something to that affect, because these can be improved. Can’t do anything about the talent at this juncture.

He knows how to do it he tells us, we’re improving, we’re hurting, it’s his fault, he’ll figure it out, once they look at the film, week after week, disappointment after disappointment.

The scoreboard testifies against him.
