I love how the tides have shifted back to Iowa last 5 seasons but after receiving a text from a friend how we scored more yesterday than Bucky has last 5 years vs us. Made me go back and look at the box scores to see we’ve been putting some old-school Hayden Fry beat downs on them. Hope they keep Fickell around for another year.

The last vestiges of Barry Alvarez are gone. When Fickell tried to open up the offense and go more pass-focused, he buried the program. They’ll be a couple more years digging out of that hole.

Ironically their AD is now our old friend
Shawn Eichorst. That tool who fired Pelini and belittled our program in 2014…

We lost 2018 because one of our punt return blockers (Beyer?) got blocked into the ball...
Oh no, he wasn't blocked into the ball........he was just a moron that put himself in harm's way.

There were a lot of unintelligent football plays in that game on our part. That's why I've compared this year's team to that one.

Yes. You are correct. It has been awhile but man we have had some seasons that reek "what could have been..."!

Yep, Fickle and the AD who hired him for his spread offense did the same to Wisky that Rich Rod and the Mich AD did by pushing out Lloyd CArr.

The series is back to being tied 49-49-2 all-time, while Iowa takes the lead in the Heartland Trophy era, 11-10.
This surprises me because IIRC Hayden Fry beat Wisconsin more than he beat Iowa State and only lost the last 2 games to them when Alvarez and Ron Dayne had things rolling... UW must have beat us good in the 60's and 70's... I haven't looked it up yet.

Here's little known fact...EVERYONE beat Iowa in the 60's and 70's. We went 20 years without a winning season. My four years at Iowa, '71 -'74 .... 7-36-1.

Fun fact, two of those 7 wins were against Illinois. 15-14 and 14-12 in IC. Two losses against Illinois. 31-0 and 50-0 in Champaign...

We should thank Eichorst. He inspired epic revenge from KF that continues to this day.
In an alternate universe if Eichorst doesn't make that comment then Ferentz might have maybe coached at Iowa another season or 2... if 2015 was an underwhelming average season I believe that Barta would have had no choice but to get rid of KF, things were really bad after the 2014 season.

I looked at it pretty closely. Kind of like Minny, Wisc got the jump on Iowa in the series 6 - 0 (Minny was twice as bad, though).

From:

1894 - 1978 WI 34 IA 21 1 tie

Hayden Fry
1979 - 1998 WI 2 IA 15 1 tie

Kirk Ferentz
1999 - 2026 WI 13 IA 13

Totals _____ WI 49 IA 49 2 tie

Kinda cool, 13 appears to be the magic number in this series. Before HF WI led the series by 13. HF precisely erased that lead of 13 winning 15 -2. He, ofc, had IA ahead 2 before dropping the final 2 games you mentioned. Now KF has exactly split going 13 - 13 with WI, hence the overall series remains tied.

" Program identity" is a cliche and a ephemeral concept...hard to attain, and hard to sustain

It seems that whisky tired of the chryst/bielma stodgy power fb, like some hawks fans are tired of kf.
Beware the sexy siren call of BB on grass....joe tiller flashed at Purdue but did not really sustain.

The Midwest produces linemen, TE, linebackers and rbs. Thats what you need to build around.

And the midwest has wet, windy, snowy, icy weather in mid-Oct to the last week of the regular season, 6 games where the passing game can be tough and even tougher if you cant run the ball. Of course, the 3 yards and a cloud of dust doesnt match up well in warm weather bowl games back in the day against faster passing teams but the Big 10 has caught up with that aspect.

Part of why Iowa and Ferentz have such an outstanding record in November...

I didn’t realize they had only 60 yards passing in their win vs USC. I was wondering if deacon hill had returned to where his college career started.

Their qb was another one like colanderia at Neb and Hoover at IU put up big #s vs smaller schools or weak defenses and getting humbled by Big 10 Ds this season.

I don’t understand why IU thought Hoover was that great. I would have only been slightly interested as an Iowa fan having him here. I would have thought they would have had a lot better options.
