So if they were to go 40-1 and lose in OT in a national championship game then you’re out. Now that’s some deep seated PDS.
I’m already out. I haven’t even watched a single minute of any of the 3 exhibitions. Didn’t even realize they were playing until I got a notification. And yes, if that one loss is the title game then I still want him gone. Even if Pope won the title I would only begrudgingly accept him here. I have ZERO faith or trust in him to ever be worth a damn here and once a coach loses that then it’s nearly impossible to get back.

You speak only for yourself and a few others that focus just on their hate for Pope.
lol “few others.” Okay bud. Also I don’t hate Pope. I hated Cal, Mitch and was close with Stoops but with pope it’s not hate. It’s more apathy. Each year the past decade has chipped away at my love for the program.

I was thinking the other day, since 2000 we’ve only had MAYBE 8-10 years where we were actually at the level UK is supposed to be. A few years with Tubby and 7 of Cals seasons. Thats pathetic and there’s no excuse for that at place like UK. At some point as a fan you realize why should I keep putting my money and effort into something that clearly doesn’t have the same expectations for itself that I do.

Sorry but the fanbase isn’t coming back together until Pope is fired. At this point there’s absolutely nothing short of winning a national title THIS YEAR that will make me get back on board with pope and the program.
I’m not sure it’s this dire.
Most fans just want to see this thing pointed in the right direction at least. A good season here and a good incoming class I think would change quite a bit.

it hasn’t been good from pope but it can be turned around.

That’s the thing though, the incoming class won’t be good. Pope is doing his usual whiffing and honestly I’d even be surprised if Hampton actually makes it here. As for this season, the roster was very average even when healthy not to mention the pieces don’t exactly complement each other. This will be a fringe top 25 team all year. If that gets Pope a 4th season then heads will explode.

I just feel sad for the man that he was put in this position without any of the experience or qualifications for the job. He was pretty much destined for failure with his ability and resume. It's not his fault and if we had had an AD who understood that we either needed someone up and coming like Nate Oats or a placeholder that would kill it immediately like Bruce Pearl - we, and he wouldn't be in this ******, painful position.

If the NCAA passes legislation that limits transfers and therefore makes high school recruiting of primary importance again, Pope (and us, by proxy) is f----d.

Indifference sets in if Pope returns despite a disappointing season. Rupp Arena will be half empty. I imagine there’ll be a lot of booing from the remaining disgruntled fans.

You think it’s toxic now? Oh boy. You haven’t seen anything yet.

But it’s actually insane if Pope gets a 4th season if this year isn’t good. Freaking Stoops was probably our best football coach since Bear and after two disappointing seasons he’s fired. What’s so special about Pope? And the basketball expectations are astronomically higher than the football team’s.

Completely. Either Pope completely flips the script and shocks the world (meaning we have out of this world success relative to expectations) or bringing him back would be an absolute nightmare for everyone.

Yep. I wonder if the games this week will be well attended. Is say there will be more than 20,000 fans at each game.
so much for the haters affecting the fans!!

He's a former player that won a championship here. That's why he got hired and why he will have more room for error. The fact that he's "one of us and understands the tradition" and is a likable person makes the lack of success tolerable for some.

Let me guess, you guys want Oats? Or that kid who is just starting his coaching career.
Sure thing……makes perfect sense.

you’ll probably give Oats 8-10 games before you want to run the him or the next coach outta town.

smart!!
