Curious to see if any of the non-Olympic medalists enter the US open in April to compete at an Olympic weight. Nothing really to risk except injury and weight management. 2 cracks at a world team. I’m really warming up to this new process. Last year’s dead crowd at Final-X was probably the nail in the coffin.

😂 That is what you brilliantly concluded from the post?

What about the burn on the roof of his mouth? Those suck. 🤷‍♂️
Wouldn’t the burn be on the ceiling of the mouth? That one fatal error casts doubt on the seriousness of the entire post! 😀

Although I feel bad for Trent and may not fully understand all nuances of the freestyle rules, when watching the replay in slow motion, it appears the toes of both feet of his Russian opponent were in bounds when he initiated the move. To my eye, the foot doesn't touch completely out of bounds until after the Russian initiates the move. At no point did Trent appear to have control of the Russian while in the protected area, so I don't think it was even possible for him to have earned a stepout point. Furthermore, maintaining the hold (control), as part of continuation of a throw going out of bounds, isn't necessary for 2pts exposure, like it would be for a takedown. As such, there seems no need for conspiracy theories. It just boils down to judgment of when the Russian initiated the move.

They all will. Medaling at an Olympic weight in ‘27 is path to sitting out for ‘28 trials. The TBD timing between the open and the determination of non-Olympic weights in ‘27 is designed to encourage everyone to go to the open.

Dake vs Dzhioev (AZE)

Dake in Blue, AZE in red. AZE knocked off Greece and Georgia on his way to the finals. Dake smiling and looking relaxed on his walk out. And here we go!

Heavy handfighting from both wrestlers to start and they both get a verbal. AZE tying up Dake's fingers and he is the first to get warned for passivity. Halfway through the first and no score. AZE goes on the clock. Dake warned for heavy clubs. Dake on the board first with a passivity point, 1-0. Dake gets warned for passivity. AZE digs an underhook and tries to run Dake down, but no scoring, and we go to the break 1-0, Dake.

Immediately on the restart, both guys get stern warning for heavy hands. Dake in on a slide-by, switches to a double on the edge and finishes. 3-0 Dake. AZE digs underhook and gets a pushout, 3-1. 1:30 left. AZE with heavy collar ties, Dake playing defense. Dake is put on the clock with 1:07 left. No scoring, so AZE gets a passivity point, 3-2 Dake. Restart with 0:11. AZE on the legs, Dake to chest wrap, and he hangs on to win, 3-2!!!!!!!!

5x World Champion, NLWC's own, KYLE DAKE!!!!!
Great work, Ozark!

Russian was in underhooks. Foot went OB and then he switched to the chest lock for the toss.

I will watch again in slow motion. I just didn't see a whole foot touch out of bounds before the throw was initiated.

I rewatched:
Russian toe appears ever so barely in bounds after he had switched from head pinch to chest wrap. Then throw is initiated with right foot brushing out of bounds. I replayed at 0.25 speed, stopping and zooming.

Is this NOT how it's supposed to be judged wrt out of bounds and continuation:

"If the thrower steps or brushes out with just one foot while executing the lift-and-throw, the referee allows the continuous action to finish."

?

The sad part is Trent didn't have to "force" that position. With the 2-1 lead at the time, he could have stayed low and milked some time off the clock while working methodically for the step out. Credit to Gadzhimagomedov for snapping Trent out of his stance to set up that position in the first place. Also, as a general rule, it seems the American wrestlers aren't quite as savvy scoring points on the edge, especially from a defensive position.
Ultimately, I feel really bad for Trent as he outwrestled Gadzhimagomedov in my mind.

Trent's match and Marcus' match against Mohammadnezhadjavan are great examples of the importance of wearing your opponent out so they don't have the ability to get to their offense late in the match or defend your late match attacks. Of course, in Marcus' match it didn't help when the officials allowed Mohammadnezhadjavan a fifty second lunger late in the second period with the phantom injured knee. Also, with only 18 seconds left, Mohammadnezhadjavan was allowed to kill ten seconds disputing a call. Those breathers may have made the difference in him being able to defend against that last shot by Marcus. I know I am disappointed for Marcus, but I think he wrestled a great tournament. His defensive prowess always keeps him in matches. If he can add some more offensive he will be an even tougher out.

This was just a phenomenal tournament for the U.S. Five Golds (oh so close to six), three Bronze and one Silver is just an amazing accomplishment. Add to that how close Zain was to being a Finalist and also the potential to have added a tenth medal if Mitchell had decided to compete for the spot this year, and this year was one for the ages. This is a great time to be a U.S.A. wrestling (and Penn State and NLWC) fan!

I love Levi. To me, he epitomizes everything (whether he gets a fifth year or not) that Penn State wrestling stands for. He had an awesome tournament. I have never seen him look better than in his match with Khaniev. To have a World gold and silver at only 22 is awesome. I believe he is just scratching his freestyle potential. His style lends itself so well to freestyle; ferocious hand fighter, relentless pace, deep gas tank, almost impossible to move him out of his stance or around the mat, very proficient at finishing his shots, unreal strength, unshakeable warrior mentality and great defense. With his strength, I can see him developing a brutal gut wrench. Once Dake retires, maybe he will show him some of his gut wrench tricks : ) Who knows, maybe we fans will be blessed and Levi will take after Dake and compete well into his thirties?

P.S., Levi's right ear looks like something out of a horror movie! I don't foresee anyone challenging Levi to a fight anytime soon : )

All 10 golds were split between these 3 countries (5 USA, 3 Russia, 2 Iran). The lowest placer for Russia was 5th with Kadiev who was a gold medal favorite. The team race was so razor thin and could have changed at so many points, the biggest probably being Bassett vs Magomedov. Magomedov was 1 point away from a tech and was in deep on a shot to end the match. Bassett somehow stopped it and stormed back to 14-13 win. What an incredible week of wrestling! The USA wins both men’s and women’s freestyle and is the first team to ever do so! This truly is a team I will always remember. Thank you everyone who watched along and posted. This forum makes these events so much more enjoyable for me. Having others who are wrestling crazy like myself to follow along with makes this so much more entertaining for me. Now it’s time for NCAA’s.
Yep! And next year I'll be retired!😁
