Just so unlucky after a great save by Shahbo. 2-1 Heels

Miller may have been touched by a Matson like finger injury.

Whewww!! 2-1 Heels take it. Almost (I score 92%) a complete effort. Hopefully we continue this trend upwards.

I think it is safe to say we saw an unreal performance by Shahbo. Happy for her!

That ref really did everything he could at the end there to give them a shot of tying things up.

We have enough talent on this team that if Reid is out, we have people who can step in and get the job done. Reid's play for us this year has been okay but nothing to get excited about. She has a tendency to rush things and then turn the puck back over to the opposing team by going too fast and rushing and not taking her time. These are expected from a freshman. She will learn in due time we to go fast, we to slow it down, etc. once she has gained more experience.

I will take it.
We need to accomplish the obvious.
Anyone have details on this game?
My hunch is that NW atypically relaxed as they had secured the Big 10 regular season and will return to form to win their Big10T.
Announcers in our game said NW had players out

Word of the day from Ms. Bush out of the booth - intrinsically.

After rewatching the game, there’s a few things that stood out.

6 mins left in 2Q Hope from the back field found Bruder just inside our attacked 25 meter line - ball clearly came up off of the defenders stick into her body. Ref called it, which should have been a quick restart for Bruder but the defender clearly intentionally hit the ball away. Should have had an upgraded PC there.

There was several plays where Ryleigh was on the attack and the defender would just stop moving to obstruct her movement. I hope referees can watch this closely as it seems quite obvious what defenses are doing here. She also got bodied hard early in the game and I still don’t quite understand how that did not yield a card.

Sofia has quietly been very steady for us on defense. Stole and broke up a few key passes while dook was on a promising attack. Sofia had a great opportunity off a rebound from a PC with 5 in change left in 2Q. She will be ready next time to put that one in the cage.

Merritt seemed to be lively and moving well on the sidelines. From players interviews (herself included), I get the gist that she is very hard on herself. I’m sure after Wake, she was not happy.

Our PC continues to be an area for improvement. I think 4 corners today, Bruder wasn’t even on the field. If my memory serves me right, she only got one attempt and it required a great save from the keeper. It feels we are not confident, and this could be why we are not looking to draw corners. Was it just me or did the insert seem a bit quicker out of Dani tonight?

Morgan had a few nice plays bringing the ball up the side

Coco needs to expect a defender to be closing in on her at all times in the midfield. Sometimes she is caught very upright for an easy takeaway. She is very skilled but I’ve noticed this consistently over the season. Turnovers in the midfield almost always lead to an immediate offensive attack for the other team.

I was happy to see our team celebrate hard after that one. They deserve it!

Gooo Heels!

Thank-you, 3397char.
I watched the game without the sound on.
So, I missed that.

I am not familiar with all the NW players; but, I know that #9 Ilse Tromp is a difference maker and #21 Ella Kokinis played in all NW games in both 2024 and 2025 and started 2 games in 2024.

So, their not playing against Penn State, IMO, had an impact on the outcome of that game.

In their absence, NW starters were first line subs #12 Jessica Freedman and #13 Bree Moffett.

Right.

Not the same.

In her post game comments, Coach Matson was effusive in her praise for the team and coaching staff in general and specifically for Ry, Sof and Tessa. (GtHD)

Coach Matson continues to amaze me in how well she analyses and articulates the moment.

Maybe in a subsequent interview she will point out how well, IMO, her entire back line and especially Sieske played.

Kokinis was off the bench with 25 minutes played.

Ah.
Thank-you for the correction, minas823.
I failed to see that on the Box Score.
Honest question as I did not watch the game.
Do you think Ilse absence made that big of an impact on the outcome of the game?

12th in RPI.

We would make it today if there were no bid stealers and if they go straight by RPI.

Stanford won’t do much for the RPI and Syracuse and Louisville are ranked lower than us in RPI.

Definitely need to make it to Friday and need to win to feel comfortable.

Not having Tromp is definitely a game changer. She is very good for them, both sides of the ball.
