NEWS: Everest Leydecker wins World title

[Tanner Lafever]

ICYMI: a pretty massive accomplishment was just made this morning by Iowa freshman Everest Leydecker:

Leydecker (just 19 years old) becomes the first Iowa women’s wrestler since the program was established (2021) to win a World/Olympic title. And she helped make several other bits of history for Team USA as well.

Here’s my story on it all:

So wonderful. It goes without saying but women’s/girls wrestling saved our sport for sure. Go hawks

You are entitled to your own opinion, I suppose.

FWIW: It's an 'opinion' that has more or less been echoed by many prominent figures in the sport - including Dan Gable.

"Saved the sport," is a big drastic - my opinion.

"Saved the sport," is a big drastic - my opinion.

Well, it is true that one of the major reason a sport that has millions of participants nationwide has operated on the edge of extinction for a long time for one primary reason - it has been a male-only sport. In the age of Title IX that is a big, big problem.

The introduction of females into the sport, in large numbers, is realistically the only way it can be saved.

Now, can we get back to simply congratulating this young lady?

Sorry I struck a nerve I guess?
Tanner- thanks for the coverage of wrestling. Go hawks

Didn't strike a thing, I just don't agree that it 'saved' wrestling. It's OK to disagree with one another and still get along; our world would be a hell of a lot better if that were the case for all - no hurt feelings on my end!
