Weak competition for the most part en route to 5-0 but 4 were in the road and Portland is decent. Plus it's a new identity and Boozer is producing quickly. I'm optimistic.Rough 1st half for Jerome, foul trouble/injury for all of the centers, and proceeded to just beat their *** in the 2nd half.
Beef Stew is the gamechanger. Boozer is going to be great, Jerome is overachieving a bit, Grant brings the gravitas of a proven veteran, and I think Wells and Coward are going to continue to grow into their games. But man, I love Stewart. He helps give us a toughness we haven't had for a long time. He plays hard, has a great attitude, and can affect the game on both ends. It will be even more apparent when the inevitable Zach Edey injury bug bites. They have been a very pleasant surprise, and while it is very early, thereโs definitely something there with this roster.
It really does make me wonder if I had underestimated the negative impact of Ja and JJJ. I always liked Jaren as a person, but he was not a leader in the locker room or on the court, and his incessant whining about calls was just too much.
The future is bright
I donโt think Jerome can keep that up either but when you look at the last several games, you can see how balanced the scoring is across the starters and the beach so if someone has an off night, you usually can find someone else that will pick up the slack. And I really think the defensive metrics for this team are off the charts. They put on an absolute defensive clinic in the second half last night to put that game away.I said in the earlier thread I thought they would overachieve. Jerome has been a revelation. Can he keep that up? No, but they are becoming one of those teams that other teams see on the schedule and sigh because they know it's not going to be a fun night. The play-in is the basement right now. With injury luck, they are firmly in the playoffs.
When my daughter got up this morning, she jokingly asked if Ja got hurt last night. And as a matter of fact, he did.
Boozer being the point forward everyone hoped he could be is a joy to watch.
One thing that concerns me and bears watching as the season goes on....the last couple of opponents have really d'ed up Jerome full court and it's impacted him scoring-wise, and really slowed down the Grizzlies offense in general. He's having to take the full 8 seconds to get across the time line. I saw some tweaks to that last night by letting Coward and even Boozer handle the ball more. But I think the Grizzlies are going to need to get the ball out of Jerome's hands more.I said in the earlier thread I thought they would overachieve. Jerome has been a revelation. Thereโs no doubt the scouting report is out on Jerome. One thing that concerns me and bears watching as the season goes on....the last couple of opponents have really d'ed up Jerome full court and it's impacted him scoring-wise, and really slowed down the Grizzlies offense in general. I know it's tempting to comp white dudes to white dudes but Bird put up 21/7/4 as a 22-23 year old rookie. What Flagg is doing is much more comparable to James, who was also an 18 year old rookie.fify
Are you not counting the grizzโ Bryant โBig Countryโ Reeves and Jason Williams?I know it's tempting to comp white dudes to white dudes but Bird put up 21/7/4 as a 22-23 year old rookie. What Flagg is doing is much more comparable to James, who was also an 18 year old rookie.
ETA: Interesting side note - Potentially the 3 best Mavs of all-time are white (Dirk, Luka & potentially Flagg)! I bet no other team in the league has 2 crackers in their top 3.
Bird put those numbers up when actual defense was played and the entire league's offense wasn't "chuck and duck." Flagg would not be doing what he's doing if he had Michael Cooper guarding his arse in half court sets.I know it's tempting to comp white dudes to white dudes but Bird put up 21/7/4 as a 22-23 year old rookie. Can't roll my eyes hard enough at that. There are several better defenders in the league right now than Michael Cooper in his prime.Bird put those numbers up when actual defense was played and the entire league's offense wasn't "chuck and duck." Your assumption is stupid because Larry Bird, and most professionals prior to a point in time, had to go to college at age 18 and stay there for a period of time. Larry Bird was likely an all NBA talent when he was in college, evidenced by how he played against established players and literally carried an unknown college basketball team to the NCAA finals all by himself. If more teenagers were eligible to play back then, and were allowed to play in an era where they can flourish offensively, more teenagers would be on the list. It's not that difficult. Can't roll my eyes hard enough at that. There are several better defenders in the league right now than Michael Cooper in his prime.
But that's besides the point. I'm gonna assume that Larry Bird, like every other professional basketball player in the history of the world, was better at basketball at 23 than he was at 18.
Here are the teenagers who've averaged 20 points or more and 10 or more rebounds+assists in NBA history:
Lebron, Luka, Wemby & Flagg
That's the list. Out of 197 players who played their rookie season as teenagers, it's four guys. So he's in rarefied air no matter how you slice it.
Hey remember this thread? When it comes to hoops, you're one of the least knowledgable posters on here. Stick to you're little magazine. It's not clever, but at least you know how to make it. I didn't namedrop Michael Cooper because I thought he was the best defender in the league. But if you believe there's better defense played in the league today than what he and players like him played back then, you should sit down and shut up because you're completely disqualified from this subject.
Cooper Flagg is a tremendously talented and skilled basketball player. The reason he is stat stuffing to the degree that he is has more to do with the fact that rules are in place today to promote offense, and defense in the league is currently non-existent. He wouldn't be doing this in the 80s/90s. And if Lebron had played in that era, he would've been Karl Malone. This shouldn't be controversial.
Time to start playing with firearms as part of his rehab.Annnnd he's out at least a month.
Somebody else's problem now...
All the NBA players are getting hurt so theyโll have time to play GTA 6.Time to start playing with firearms as part of his rehab.
Probably said in sarcasm, but canโt be ruled out.All the NBA players are getting hurt so theyโll have time to play GTA 6.

"Get back to me this time next year and tell me how he's doing in comparison to Banchero.
So stupid." - @Drebin
Consider this me getting back to you. He's doing great. You, yet aGAIN, look like a buffoon. Take a massive, massive L champ.

Jokic said something about it the other day to the media that November and December production would drop because theyโd all stay up all night playing it.Probably said in sarcasm, but canโt be ruled out.
I was wrong about Flagg. He brought receipts. Ha ha ha ha ha
