I think this could be a sneaky good game on Friday night. SF has the talent edge but you can certainly argue Kaneland has been a better team week in and week out. They have some solid wins and the Morris game was closer than the score indicated.

If Franny wants to go in and get a win, they’ll need to play one of their better games (similar to how they played against NND week 8). Kaneland is a tough place to go in and get a win.

I think the winner here goes on a run…

I don't know a ton about Kaneland. Would be interested in hearing what our Morris fans have to say about them.
If SF plays well any 5A team is going to have trouble with them, I would add 6A to that as well.

Kaneland is very solid. Against Morris they hurt themselves early with turnovers that Morris was able to capitalize on. Balanced offense and fundamentally sound defense. They're no pushover but Franny should pull away late.

Massey has St. Francis as a 5 point favorite but I could see them winning by 2 scores. A Kaneland win would be a big upset, but wouldn't be completely shocked if it happens.

Actually, there were no turnovers in the game by either side. What hurt Kaneland early was inability to get off the field on 4th down on the first two scoring drives, and poor field position for pretty much the whole game (credit to Morris). Chose to go for it on 4th down instead of kicking a makeable field goal right before halftime to get some points on the board. Then a missed extra point and the punt return at the end of the third quarter and you could feel the sideline deflate after that.

Will be the first time SF has played on grass all year. Game being played at Kaneland has to help them some.

One of the more intriguing games this upcoming weekend.

Wasn't there a snap that went over the punters head early in the game? And I thought there was a fumble on a kick return in the first half.

Lemont fumbled on the first play of the game and snapped their first two punts over the punter's head. Simeon fumbled a kickoff and muffed a punt in the first quarter. Rochelle fumbled 7 times in the first half.

I can understand how you would get the games mixed up. ;)

I have only seen a handful of highlights and part of the Grayslake game for St. Francis. Those familiar with St. Franics, what are their strengths? What would you say they do really well? It’s been in the paper that they are out at least 4 starters, were they all season ending?

QB - Started off slow with injuries but has been playing real well of late. He has a cannon and can move pretty well.
WR - Strong group, Got the best of the bunch back a few weeks ago from injury, but lost a starter in week 8. Good mix of speed and quickness.
RB - Sr, good back runs hard and they have been getting a FR back into the mix and he is a smaller quicker change of pace.
OL - Solid group with good size. 2 JR, 1 SR, 1 or 2 Soph depending on who they play and have a FR that is getting time as well.

DL - Solid group of DE type kids that rotate, pretty young at that position. I expect to see their stud Soph OL/DL play more on D as playoffs progress. Also have a FR DE/DT that is back after missing a game or two.
LB - Down a SR starter from injury(out for year). Playing their Sr stud safety at LB, he is the best overall player on team. They have filled in remaining spots with some SRs and a Soph who picked off Abrams twice, he is a good one.
DBs - pretty strong group. Safety tandem is good Junior and a Fr that has really played well (good size 6'3" and plays bball). Corners are solid and they will mix it up in the secondary at times. Jr CB is really good and has a few offers.

K - They have a good kicker who will kick on Saturdays. Has made 40+yard FGs a few times this year.

They can throw the ball well and run when needed. On D they will hang in there and have played some pretty good O in reg season. They will get some penalties and are very young. They are battle tested with their schedule and if they are clicking there is really only one team in 5A that can beat them at their best IMO and that is PC. But they can start slow and against a good team like Kaneland will be a tough hole to dig out of.

Let's not forget the last time Francis went to Kaneland for a section round game... Lots of changes since then! Still don't think he ever stepped out of bounds!
St. Francis vs Kaneland
Have thought about this game this week…Francis got down 31-7 at halftime and had a furious comeback.

Agree that he either I.) never stepped out of bounds and ii.) that ball was tipped by the defender before he caught it.

Either way think they got robbed of a crazy Hail Mary playoff win.

lol, how long has that place been closed?
Close to 20 years :)

Burnt Barrel is a great place in Sugar Grove. Obscurity or Schmidt's in Elburn are also good and a little closer to the school.

Also, due to construction at the school, parking is not the easiest to navigate at the moment. It's available but there are only a couple ways to access it, all on the southwest corners of the property. And be patient getting out after the game. It will take some time ... I'm sure the Sherriff's office will be there to help.

I’ll have to check out Schmidt’s. The wife and I randomly stopped at Obscurity earlier this year and had some good food and beverages…
