That Time of the Year

Well, football season is just about wrapped up, and I'm curious what y'all think the coaching carousel is fixing to look like in NC.

Any head coaches y'all think might be on their way out after this season? Could be retirement, somebody moving up the ladder, or a school finally deciding it's time to make a change.

There are some big programs out there with plenty of support, good facilities, and enough kids to compete, yet they just haven't seemed to get over the hump. Then you've got coaches who have been there a long time and might be ready for something different.

I'm not saying a fella ought to be fired just because he had a bad year. Lord knows there's more to running a program than what shows up on the scoreboard Friday night. But when a school keeps ending up in the same spot year after year, sooner or later somebody has to ask whether things are going to change.

So who are y'all watching? Any jobs you think could realistically come open once the season ends?

Word around Sampson County is keep an eye out for every school but the ones with hometown coaches (Clinton & Midway) Hobbton, Lakewood, Union all may be in the market. Staying local to the southeast region keep an eye out on Duplin County Coach Mot at Wallace may get pushed out if some people have their way. This also may finally be the year Coach Martin at North Duplin retires, but hey, its been his last year for the previous 5! lol.

Also should expect a change at Edenton Holmes, lot of speculation that this is Coach Hoggards last year. I would expect them to hire in house, Coach Perry Owens is my bet.

If Mot does exit at wallace I do expect Scronce to get a call. I think the boosters and community have seen how critical he was for that program and will try to lure him back. If he takes over Wallace and can get the right help they are right back in it.

By all accounts I've heard much of the community is out on Motsinger, which is crazy to think how good they have been record wise these last 2 years. At the end of the day, the Wallace faithful care about respect just as much as they do winning records, losing to Midway, Clinton, East Duplin and Kenan does not sit right with them. Seen some rumblings on facebook a little while back that this year "has not felt like WRH football."
I think it would take a lot of humbling and reflection for them to extend the offer to Scronce, heard him leaving was not by choice and that it was rather messy.

@SouthEast Whats the word over there at Midway? 3 really great years for Coach Sloan, prolific offenses the last 2, know it would be hard to leave home, especially when your last name is on the stadium, but whats the chances schools come calling or he goes looking? Johnston County and Wake County are both right up the road...????

I have heard rumblings that princeton high is fed up with Gaster. Highest paid coach in state on paper and produces nothing but mediocre records and teams. Since moving to 2A/3A they have been almost irrelevant. I would think Sloan would be interested in this gig when or if it opens up.

I have been hearing rumblings that Elliot from lakewood is in the mix for a cumberland county job but I don't know where. I am hearing at Union that Oates is probably done due to medical reasons and that assistant Devin Millen is probably the next HC.

Not a chance!! Princeton is way to political and Gaster is one of their own. They may take every route but firing, may even persuade him to change the offensive scheme, but they will not give him the boot. Besides whats the ceiling at Princeton anyways? Very surprised the Mcphatter kid hasn't bounced to go to Cleveland, Clayton, Wake County, etc. As for Sloan if pay is the question, the smart move would be to leverage the results the last 3 years for a bigger check, Midway has the money. It would be a terrible move for him in my opinion, you don't leave his current situation for Princeton.

I am hearing South Point Belmont is looking to add a few coaches. They currently only have 15, and are trying to improve their 1:2.7 coach-to-player ratio.
