One of my favorite actors - and a great man, great person. He wanted to be remembered for being funny, and he sure as hell was. Although people probably wont remember him that way, he put a smile on my face many times. If that's how he would like to have us remember him, then I am smiling even though it's very, very sad news to hear of his passing.

RIP Patrick. You were one of a kind ! :)

His rendition of Scrooge was my favorite as well. I love watching it every Christmas.

I feel like I lost my father again tonight. I loved Stewart.
Loved him in TNG where I first met him. Loved him in Dune. Loved him as Avery Bullock in American Dad.

The man was pure class and dignity. My father died of ALS. So one of my fondest Stewart memories is when the ice bucket challenge was all the rage. Man makes a video with an ice bucket, scoops out some ice into a glass, pours a scotch, writes a check for an undisclosed amount, turns it over face down, picks up the glass and gives a silent toast.

I'd be lying if I said I haven't shed a couple of small tears tonight. That moment meant alot to me.

In a world full of loud, boisterous people- be a Patrick Stewart.

I'll miss you Jean-Luc. A lot.

TNG was amazing. Great great series and episodes.
FIrst season was a bit rough, but past that it was such a great show.

That first season was rough on all of them I think. Uncomfortable costumes, adjusting to the set. And Patrick Stewart admittedly was a giant jerk for the first part of it. But they finally won him over and got him to get in on the fun and it gave us the Stewart we loved and sadly lost yesterday.

Original over Next Generation, but Picard over Kirk. TNG is awesome though. Last great Trek to me. I need to watch it tonight in remembrance of the great Picard.
There's so much about TOS that was cutting edge, especially in a social sense. I idsocvered TNG when I was living on Lake Herrington with only an antenna. Watched that show every night on local Fox before bed.

Tough week for Trek fans, first Walter Koening and now Sir Patrick Stewart. If I were Shatner and Takai I'd be careful.

I've seen too many pass away with dementia and those illnesses. It is devestating. especially in the long term and longest suffering ones. It's beyond tragic and terrible to see it happen and to know someone that no longers knows you or anyone, even their own.

There but for the grace of God go I.

But I want to add this about his acting ....

I've always said good actresses & actors can take a good guy role and make it great, but that is rather much easier to do, people want to be for them in that case.

It's when the actor or actress becomes a villain or bad guy, or something you want to hate, something evil, or despicable, and to get you to truly really HATE them for how well they pull that off .... THAT is the sign of a great actor or actress.

He could do that - and did do it, every time, he put something else into his portrayal that simply went beyond the words and script others wrote for him. Just simply amazing to hear the man talk about so many things, as well. What an awesome man.

I'm privliged to have lived in the time when Patrick Stewart was acting.

Patrick Stewart could do it all, and even on stage. He was truly one of the greatest actors stage, film, you name it .... of our generation.

Walter was awesome as well.

He played the most evil devious psy cop, Bester, on Babylon 5. I think that role for him is the best he ever played. He did that a long time too.

I hated Bester! That it was Walter playing the role ..... it was crazy hating him but loving the guy portraying him so perfectly .... hahaha ... us trekkies have been given huge blows.

live long and prosper to one and all

Truth. Just sucks seeing everything you love leave the Earth. I can see why some old people are ready to go. It’s a tough thing to see year after year.
When you're younger, immortality sounds great, even enticing.
As you grow older, you learn what a curse that would be. There truly are things much worse than death.

Alzheimer’s and dementia are horrible diseases. So difficult for the family.

Facts.

His situation is interesting because he had a decent amount of recent interviews where he sounded very competent and normal. Anyone with friends or family with these illnesses know how unusual that is. Ya there might be moments but none capable of having media interviews discussing complex issues and career highlights.

Saw some speculation maybe he used the recent law change to use a medical assistance to voluntarily end his own life.
