There is a pretty good player in Gaston County right now who wanted to transfer to SP but that transfer was denied BUT family was told he was approved for a Ashbrook transfer lol. Kid stayed at his current school instead.Im sure he do the same for SP.![]()
That sucks and is totally unfair. Nothing new...it's been like that. But still.....I say stay and play for/represent the community where you live. That sucks and is totally unfair. Kid should have gotten the opportunity to play for SP
I respect your opinion I really do, but if a kid can better himself by playing for a better coach or program and the only reason he can’t is because of where his parents live, then I don’t agree. Not the kids fault.Nothing new...it's been like that. But still.....I say stay and play for/represent the community where you live.
To come in from being a starting LB to playing QB and lead his team like this has been fun to watch. Absolute Dog!!!!
Enjoyed hearing Coach Herron's take on things.
This stance is why we have FV, HH, NG (and for about 10-12 years...Ashbrook) programs in the can. I don't see how others can't see this. If the better athletes/players are annually cherrypicked to go elsewhere....(1)player x feels good because he thinks he is better than he probably is, (2) team/program y feels good because they have added depth/talent/fill a gap and (3) team/program z goes in the toilet because 1-2 of their better players are gone leaving big voids. You proponents have MADE FV, HH, BC, EG,NG, etc,I respect your opinion I really do, but if a kid can better himself by playing for a better coach or program and the only reason he can’t is because of where his parents live, then I don’t agree. Cramer made a change and hired the right guy and now they are a have instead of the have nots your trying so desperately hard to lump them in with. Cramer was definitely one of those programs losing kids left and right but in the last 2 years kids are coming back and deciding it is a place they want to play. Maybe some of these other have nots should decide to make a change and see the excitement and fan support they get when they do.This stance is why we have FV, HH, NG (and for about 10-12 years...Ashbrook) programs in the can. This is me taking up for HS football. The AAU culture (along with the portal/NIL environment in college) has come in and absolutely RUINED HS Football. This thought process (your comments above) is exactly in line and helps fuel that. I am literally taking up for st. cramers of the world here. Places like SP, Crest....they gonna be fine.
3 of the 4 CC schools gets transfers every year. 1 doesn't. I'll let you decide which one doesn't...... They can say they don't, but they do..Cramer made a change and hired the right guy and now they are a have instead of the have nots your trying so desperately hard to lump them in with. Your view is a jaded one. Like the offense SP runs it is a view from the 70’s. Learn to change with the times and quit complaining.
Your right about one thing, Crest will be fine.
LOL - or those have nots could go play in a weaker conference? This is a response to being jaded: It's not jaded to think that SC would be one win better the last two years if they were still playing their old schedule. Since yall are self-proclaimed "haves" now, they should schedule a decent non-conf. opponent and find out if you are.Cramer made a change and hired the right guy and now they are a have instead of the have nots your trying so desperately hard to lump them in with. Yall got one that can play looking for an address down here?3 of the 4 CC schools gets transfers every year. 1 doesn't. I'll let you decide which one doesn't...... They can say they don't, but they do..
Playing devils advocate without having this big debate, do you not think some of the schools you mentioned had a hand in jumping into the toilet bowl? South Point and your community actually care about football and it shows. Most of the schools you mentioned say they care but their actions so otherwise. Look at the coaching hires. FV and Huss had elite coaches apply for those jobs who were passed over for coaches with no head coaching experience. EG was a nepo hire while NG & BC will hire a decent coach but not support the coach as needed. It starts with the principal first, is football a priority for that principal and do they support the program in a way to be successful. In the schools you mentioned I would say no. No matter what you think of McKoy his teams were good and he is a good coach. The job in SC that he has done proves that. Bigger than McKoy was the principal who was a sports guy. The new principal hired McKoy and let him have power to choose his own staff. Cherryville hires a football guy from a winning program and all of a sudden they look like a football team. Ashbrook started putting more emphasis on football and their on field product looks better. Same with Cramer. The transfer argument is a weak argument that some coaches used to keep people from looking at how bad those coaches really are. It doesn’t help that GC schools hurt some of their own lesser programs to prop up a few other in county programs. For example making the smaller GC schools play larger GC schools AFTER those smaller schools had arranged games against similar size schools that they actually can compete with. Please don’t get me started on the GC coaches that actually cared who begin raising money on their own efforts to help their programs compete to be told after the money was raised that the money had to be split with other programs in the school smh. This stance is why we have FV, HH, NG (and for about 10-12 years...Ashbrook) programs in the can. It isn't a complaint to recognize & display disgust for the erosion of HS football programs and why that is occurring. How that is made into a SC issue when all the others were specifically mentioned I'm not sure.
You shouldn't worry about SP for any reason either. They've been fine and will continue to be fine. Nobody leaves Tennessee to go play at Tusculum.
ProbablyYall got one that can play looking for an address down here?
Understand overall what you're saying. I know EG had one super legit guy come and want the job. Laughable/cryable that he was passed over....d@mn good football coach and it's well known.Playing devils advocate without having this big debate, do you not think some of the schools you mentioned had a hand in jumping into the toilet bowl? It baffles me that a guy who claims to be as smart as you can’t grasp the concept of cutoffs. Did every school at the lower end of the cutoff get unlucky (yes) and did every school at the upper end of the cutoff get lucky (yes). However just because SC got lucky and ended up at the upper end of 4A instead of the lower end of 5A, doesn’t mean they are supposed to be 5A. I got an idea, take one of your DB’s to Carowinds and when he is an inch too short to ride the roller coaster and some 12 year old kid is 2 inches taller and able to ride it, it may start making some sense.Understand overall what you're saying. I know EG had one super legit guy come and want the job. Laughable/cryable that he was passed over....d@mn good football coach and it's well known.
I would love to hear the elite coaches that FV and HH had apply. These "elite" coaches had better be someone that is a former OC/DC/HC with more than 5 years of proof of being good.
Good point about Cherryville. Agree. I don't think the conf. or anything has anything to do with it either....they have lots of reasons why they shouldn't be where they are....so good for them for committing to football. I don't know....but would be good insighte to know if they have/haven't lost any talent to BC, WL or Burns in the last 1-2 years???
SC is it's own situation. Besides them (and EG...previously covered)-Who else is 5a enrollment borderline school playing in a 3a/4a conference?
I think McKoy wasn't a bad overall coach....but it is not a secret that he recruited all of Gastonia. He did that at Grier and Huss. So...these schools that are "have nots" have one thing in common: they're all areas where kids can get to/go to other schools that recruit them. Transfer argument isn't weak: the coaches that HAVE to recruit are weak.
So... GC (the county) isn't hurting those other schools. OTHER SCHOOLS are hurting those schools ... from both CC and Gaston County.
Welcome to public HS politics. Football makes all the money and doesn't get to keep but less than half probably.
Those elite coaches I referenced were all head coaches at the time with great coaching resumes.Understand overall what you're saying. I know EG had one super legit guy come and want the job. Laughable/cryable that he was passed over....d@mn good football coach and it's well known.

Actually that is not factually true AND KM has lost several varsity kids to Burns football and baseball in recent years. Don’t let me get in the way of a good sad love song so please continue3 of the 4 CC schools gets transfers every year. 1 doesn't. I'll let you decide which one doesn't...... They can say they don't, but they do..
Same here. Great show and commentary. These veteran coaches are very detailed in their approach and see all the tendencies/nuances in each phase of the game. I definitely agree with him on wishing that we could see both games on back to back days. That was a great interview. Mark Barnes is an awesome football coach. I enjoyed listening to him. I enjoyed coach Herron’s perspective as well.
If you’re going to listen to coaches talk those two can definitely teach you. They almost said the same thing about the other team.
What a game we’re about to partake in.
