Do we keep Lebby if the grid goes down?
Yes but some states pressurize the gas lines with natural gas powered turbines. Much of Mississippi is pressurized this way.
True enough. Eventually. Not gonna have much gas to be driving around tho. I got a few trigger pullers and ample toolsThe urbanites will form gangs to raid the rural areas. A variety of ranged stand off weapons and several trigger pullers will be essential.
This is all one reasonably needs. Maybe some spare bottled water. So, like the ice storm last year. 2 weeks no power.
Things that are nice to have:
Gas heat
Gas stove
Gas hot water heater
Generator
Baked beans and sweet release don't mesh
Where do you think all those folks in Jackson are going to looking for food once it runs out in Jackson? Think they are just going to sit there and die once it runs out? They are going overwhelm you by numbers, and they will be at least as heavily armed as you.Yeah. Suburbs just outside of Jackson would be much safer. Are you serious ? I live on 218 acres. Think about it. Cows creeks land not many neighbors. Good Lord.

They just want one cow...extra large.
How much gas you think they will have buddy ? Maybe they will walk. I might need to invest in some yard gnomes filled with tannerite and ball bearingsWhere do you think all those folks in Jackson are going to looking for food once it runs out in Jackson? Walkers Walk....Of course they will walk.
Probably 15k and up. My BIL sells them.Man this is sixpackspeak, we carry around several months worth of sustenance. Stay ready, never have to get ready.*
I should prolly keep more water on hand, but id say we could make it a week or so pretty well, after that sol on water.
Related hijack: what’s the going rate on installed whole house natgas generators these days? Have the large batteries or other technologies become a reasonable alternative?
Plenty of examples where folks dont walk. Take some of the African nations for example. Cant griw food cause they live in a desert. They walk 12 miles for water. God forbid they move that grass/dung hut closer to the waterOf course they will walk.
Never thought about that. That's a great idea. Inexpensive too. Sounds like a good plan I may adopt.I had an aunt live to 97 primarily on peanut butter and crackers. I’m going to stock up on that, water and whiskey. I’m good.
Out of starving millions, some of them will get to you. Don't forget the locals either. They will know you have food and if you won't share........Also the armed military will take what they want. Back in the Cold War days I always said if the worst ever happened I hoped I was directly underneath the first bomb. "Surviving" would not be all it was cracked up to be. A total longterm grid collapse might be worse in the long run. The millions of deaths would be prolonged. You obviously haven't read enough science fiction!Plenty of examples where folks dont walk. A quick death would be a blessing. But now armed military is a very real threat. Such as what the Yankees did during the Civil War. Took what they wanted and burned and slaughtered the rest. Most folks will look for easy targets. There will be plenty of those out there.Out of starving millions, some of them will get to you. Don't forget the locals either. You are giving them a lot of credit for intelligence and foresight they don't have. It takes time to walk 10 miles. They are not going to get on google maps and try to identify potential strongholds ahead of time. If you are easily visible on a major road, yes, in a truly **** hits the fan scenario, you are going to get raided. But plenty of people have small cabins and 50 acres that are not going to be just wandered by. You'll have to deal with local people that know what's out there, but if you're not advertising you have a compound and don't do the type of construction that will get talked about, then you are going to be in much, much better shape than people in or near the city.Of course they will walk.
Including you. Your biggest threat will be your local authorities, or whoever managed to kill them. You better hope it's the local authorities who come for your stash. They will probably leave you your "fair share." The others won't.A quick death would be a blessing. But now armed military is a very real threat. Such as what the Yankees did during the Civil War. Who said anything about thinking ahead or planning? This will be starving people roaming looking for food wherever they can find it. If your hide out is in a place where it would be a struggle to survive NOW, then you probably could avoid them. That's basically in the middle of the desert or high up in the mountains miles from anywhere. If it's in a settled area, even if you are out in the sticks, they will find you. It ain't gonna be one roaming dude either. No where in Mississippi would be immune. You are giving them a lot of credit for intelligence and foresight they don't have. It takes time to walk 10 miles. Just dropped the coin for one of those 11,500 watt predator generators after they sent me a 25% off coupon to use on anything in the store. Going to get a generlink transfer switch and a boatload of propane to run it.Worldwide, there has been a lot of chatter about emergency preparedness. I usually never give such things much thought, but with a family of 6, this gives me pause. Do you do anything and if so, what?
They are going to attack the grocery stores first. They will try to loot/steal locally next. Really depends on availability of gas and whether gas stations get run out before all power is lost or whether there is gas in underground tanks for industrious people to figure out how to access without electricity so they can have something of a stockpile. But you can can get to pretty rural land in 15 miles in most places in Mississippi.Who said anything about thinking ahead or planning? That's why you prop the dead up and leave one alive. So they can go back and inform the rest that they know of one place that's a no go.Who said anything about thinking ahead or planning? For my great aunt, it was cigarettes, Hershey Kisses, and Boston Celtics basketball. Lived to the ripe old age of 99.I had an aunt live to 97 primarily on peanut butter and crackers. I’m going to stock up on that, water and whiskey. I’m good.
I've got all those plus a decent lithium battery power station that can be recharged with the generator as needed. So, like the ice storm last year. 2 weeks no power.

I bet I can shoot further than you’ll think I can.Lots of good answers in this thread. My new plan is to make a list of which posters have supplies. **
