Since 2019, tennis is up 72% among kids 6–12. Golf is up 55%. Parents finally figured out which sports lead to success and can be played for life.

We did this with our kid. Got her into tennis about 3 years ago (she's 10 now). She loves it. The biggest challenge is finding other kids in our area that play so that she has someone to practice or do lessons with. We wanted her to have something she could do for life.

I've tried to get her into golf so I can have a permanent golfing partner but it hasn't stuck yet.

FIFY

In all seriousness, though, I agree. Unless your kid is some 1 in a million athletic phenom, he/she isn't going pro in baseball, football, and basketball. There are tons of scholarships out there for these smaller sports, though, and you don't have to be an absolute freak of nature to be able to compete in at least some of them. Just have to have some level and high athletic ability and a TON of dedication

I wonder what constitutes 'regular participation'.

And ages 6-12 is an interesting age rage...yeah, not a lot in that age range will play golf. But if you do 13-18, the participation % will surge...assuming 'regular participation' is what I view it as.

Not including dance is also interesting. That would have a high participation % in the 6-12 range, even despite it being predominantly girls.

And flag football being more popular at tackle football at this age is good to see.

Baseball shocks me with the number of parents I know with kids in Travel ball. Golf has made a massive comeback, the number of kids 18 and younger on the course is good to see. YouTube Golf has really helped grow the game.

Baseball is just so regional. Basketball is nationwide and can be played indoors. As can tennis.

Success? Maybe, if you are elite (like any other sport). Played for life? Agree.

There are tons of scholarships out there for these smaller sports, though, and you don't have to be an absolute freak of nature to be able to compete in at least some of them. Just have to have some level and high athletic ability and a TON of dedication
Will that be the case going forward? Seems colleges are cutting these sports.
