After Lewis visited and shut his recruitment down we supposedly had a shot… apparently not.
He better land him then. Because if he doesn’t it will look even worse. He continually offers the entire top 25 and its moves to the next kid down the line every time they commit elsewhere. It’s happened all 3 years. That’s just the reality and a huge reason why he’s lost so much outside injuries, and why his seat is getting warm.
It would be nice to have a recruit just commit. EVERYTIME we hear the same ole shiz, eventually not signing the recruit. The only deflection I like is a commitment not a crystal ball

I don't make the rules, your side does. I'm a pumper because I'm not on here with a completely negative take on everything Pope does and I just want to see what he does in year 3. Even after saying "I don't think Pope is the right guy", I still get called a pumper.

I agree, it would be really nice to not have 3 kids we recruited hard commit elsewhere in a week, and then have all these excuses of why we didn’t get them.
I was so hopeful after the first transfer portal where Pope went after a bunch of under-the-radar players, especially after watching how well they played together.
But for whatever reason he abandoned that concept and started going after top 25 type guys both in high school recruiting and the transfer portal. And he’s failed miserably. But instead of going after players he’s comfortable with, he keeps going after top players and falling flat on his face.
I was thinking about how he basically let Rancik go to FSU in favor of Freeman, who had a history of injuries and of course he ended up losing him to St. John’s. Rancik is averaging 14 points in their exhibition against LSU and Auburn. He was probably perfect for Pope, but he chose to run after the big name.
His obsession with going after guys who do not want to be coached by him has to stop. But at this point, it’s probably too late. Had he bothered going after a few 4 star developmental pieces the last few years and picking up lowkey guys in the portal; he might not be in the hot seat.
Recruiting has been by far his biggest struggle, but instead of changing his approach, he keeps running after elite players like the horny dork in high school who keeps hitting on the popular girls. No matter how much he fails, he just keeps running after them.

If Pope landed all three hed change the attitude around here lol. But I doubt it
Common theme- Pope can’t recruit. He can’t make simple connections with people, and he lacks even basic levels of self awareness- I am convinced he hasn’t reflected on his efforts to recruit/communicate with kids. He thinks everything he did (recruiting wise) was good enough. Couple that with the immature antics/ silly hat pics, pics on a beach looking “cool”, mother Fers, struggling to speak after a tough loss with a friendly reporter, acting like a character from a marvel movie during his intro press conference, the cringe C A T S skit when he was a coach at ANOTHER school…well you get the drift. I could probably go on.
It’s not shocking that Mark Pope was Mitch Barnhart’s second choice. After hiring Billy G as his second choice should’ve all but confirmed the man cannot hire a normal coach for the basketball program without them having strange behaviors.
Mitch is the true reason for this. He’s lucky the basketball people made him hire Calipari.

I feel like he thinks his past is going to make BBN love him no matter what but like you said his self awareness and ability to reflect is non existent. He doesn't understand how bad he looks to anybody up to date with society. Most importantly these young people that are supposed to be recruits.

Well I hope he isnt. But I never would imagine he would of been hired so who knows. I think J Batt has some balls tho.
It would and rightfully so, just like a really good year would. We will see about that but his recruiting is what it is. It’s not changing so far.

He isn't coming here and never was. These threads are made in bad faith and that's coming from someone who made a super thread to consolidate the whiffs over the summer.
He shot 29% from three for the tournament (on 40+ attempts) and I think 33% from three all year. I think the big shot skews people’s memory of him. He was a good player last year not great. He may very well breakout out but he’s got work to do.
Fans don't even bother with a wish list with Pope as coach
