How are we going to be competitive?

Good analysis. We'd have lost this game last year too.
Last year we lost two games by one point, one game by 5, overtime loss to Oregon, and should have beat Indiana…you bounce the ball a few different ways and we still almost made the playoff last year!

If you can’t look at one season of awful luck and judge a man and a program that way-you are the one who deserves to be judged. How could I support a program or company that can’t ride with its leaders when things get rough? Winners don’t just throw in the towel after 5 games-it shows Kraft’s imbecilic decision making based on nothing. That’s never been my mind state and I didn’t think it was Penn State’s either to just give up. Now hearing alot of you on this board…especially how you talk about Coach Campbell I see you’re delusional. You put unfair pressure on him to succeed-and that seems to be a trend of the fan base.

You say the fans were yelling at Franklin after Northwestern? Why is that Franklin’s fault? That’s how wild animals behave.

THAT extreme moment of disrespect shows you that the fan base is disconnected with reality and on top of that toxic and spoiled.

Kraft should have doubled down instead of listening to the loud minority. He’s the Mike McQuery in this situation….the one who caused the entire problem to begin with!

Imagine giving a HC a roster cut in half and then saying you have less than a year to produce.....it's idiotic. MC may fail, but any moron making that call already is just looking for attention and lack the capacity to see this isn't even a decent PSU roster. It's dark years bad and back then it wasn't due to half the roster bailing it was due to a HC who had such an ego at the end he thought he was too good to actively recruit and people gave him a pass. PSU had to fill it's roster and it's not an overnight fix with how much they replaced. This year isn't a surprise to me at all, but then again I wasn't a moron going around without seeing the team play a single snap and saying 10 wins easy.....dumb people really thought that and NOW they want to light their torches because they were too stupid to know better. They can get bent FWIW.

To be fair, PSU fans can look at Bob Chesney, who came to UCLA from a less well-regarded program, came into a worse overall situation (despite last year's PSU performance, the overall situation at UCLA was worse), and brought in 62 new players (42 transfers and 20 frosh) on a slightly lower budget, and hired at almost exactly the same time ... so it's not like PSU fans expecting something better than what we've seen would be hoping for the impossible, since it's happening elsewhere. That may be the exception that proves the rule, but it's still not this completely unthinkable dream that PSU wouldn't be terrible this year.

UCLA says hello - 20 of UCLA's 22 starters are Free Agents that Chesney brought in via the portal. This same story plays out with Will Stein at Kentucky (it also played out with Cignetti in both his first two years at Indiana - both teams starting line-ups were made up of Free Agents Cignetti acquired in the Portal. The average age of his NC Team starters last year was almost 24 years old and none of them were holdover Indiana players that were recruited into the program via highschool).

Just beyond absurd to give Campbell a pass on the highly-paid Free Agents he brought in - 60% of them (and the highest-paid FAs were players that CAMPBELL RECRUITED AT ISU - in many cases, he chased Franklin holdovers to bring these OVERPAID DUDS in - Grunk being a classic example! Becht is easily the most over-paid player in Profeesional CFB - and not by a little bit, he plays like someone who should be paid "walk-on" pay, but is receiving market-rate P4 QB pay of $2 million!). Just absurd to believe that Campbell's talent-evaluation and FA recruiting skills are going to wildly improve because he is wearing a PSU baseball hat versus the awful talent he recruited and PAID TOP$$$ to come to PSU - Campbell wanted these players here and in many cases, he wanted them instead of BETTER, far more talented, Franklin-recruited holdovers!

Just laughable nonsense to make these lame excuses for Campbell - Franklin's starters at VaTech are almost all new FAs as well, why is he doing so much better than Campbell??? Luke Reynolds is currently leading all FBS TEs in Receptions and TD Catches..... and many NFL analysts rate him as the #1 NFL TE Draft Prospect (meanwhile, Brahmer was hailed by Campbell as the best TE in Professional CFB, and payed him that way, Brahmer has 21 Receptions for the season and 1 TD reception versus Reynolds nation-leading 50 Receptions and 6 TDs for a TE -- so who was the better more talented TE genius???? The guy Franklin recruited or the guy Campbell recruited????).

32 coaches fired last year Mrs Franklin. You’re pointing to 1-2. None lost as many as PSU did. The jury is still out but dumb people who are emotional ***** need to jerk those knees. You keep babbling to your girlfriend Marshall about how rational you 2 are. Buh Bye.

Because he did things that disrespected PSU. He regularly had his agent say he was being sought by other schools and did little to nothing to put out the rumor talk. It made the school look bad. To an alum, it was offensive.
To this alum it’s how the coaching game is played. I don’t like it but understand it.

Yep, and been much further along with rebuilding. Instead, the infection was allowed to fester into the pusbag it became last year. Good news is that the healing has begun.
Where is the NIL money coming from to be ahead in your scenario?
And who would our coach be? Ruhle?

Ruhle? Keep thinking small - that is where you will end up.
I never ever wanted Ruhle but that was Pat plan to start with unless of course you wanted Sandy picking our next HC and I know how much you like her, cause she would have been the one picking if you got your wish in '21-'22

This jagoff thinks he knows everything..... and keeps telling us how we're better off with Door Matt whose L/T Head Coaching record is vastly inferior to James Franklin's (as is his record this year). Campbell's recruits are VASTLY inferior to James Franklin's - take a look at how Campbell's highly-paid recruits turned Free Agents are fairing as compared to how James Franklin's recruits are now playing at their new schools including at VaTech for Franklin. Only a Dr. Clown-defender, complete ignoramus would argue that Door Matt is a better coach than James Franklin, but the thing that makes this whole thing off the charts criminal malpractice is that Dr. Clown is PAYING UP for a massive reduction in both coaching and roster talent! (yes, Dr. Clown is paying Door Matt and his roster more than Franklin and his rosters were ever paid!). This is Dr. Clown's definition of "Excellence at the highest level...." -- paying more for dramatically less talent and on field results. Just off the charts sad that people defend this arrogant, empty-suit bureaucrat jack@$$.

No one is more delusional - or suffers more from selective amnesia - than the typical sports fan
Penn State was being touted as a possible playoff team due to a combination of the talent brought in and retained and a very, very, manageable schedule. It was not just the view of fans. It was a common opinion of many national media types. I fully agree about sport fans and.....parents LOL

At least it might make you take your BGJ love to another board or will you still be kissing his azz here? Probable / we deserve better posters than you.
Why? I'll bet you are getting ready for excellence at the highest level. Personally, I'm preparing to celebrate the victory in the big game this weekend.

Marshall has turned in to an insufferable fan. He displays the very traits he spent 5 years condemning.
