There are two separate pools ...

1. Third party (entities who aren't the university) payments to players for use of NIL, and
2. Revenue sharing payments from the university to players for use of NIL

The first group can be further broken down into (1) entities that are having their spending directed by the university, and (2) non-associated entities that have nothing to do with the school and do not act at their direction or with their input.

The revenue sharing money does not necessarily have to be spent on direct payments to players (all of which are NIL payments), it can also be spent on scholarships, academic awards, medical coverage and benefits or basically anything the school can argue as supporting the players. And the revenue sharing technically doesn't even need to be spent at all - it is a ceiling cap, not a floor.
I hadn’t realized the revenue sharing could even be for medical coverage. Not too long ago- it was required that even a scholarship player had to have medical coverage provided by their parents.

He was a selfish a-hole that was only worried about himself and becoming a civil rights leader and influencer. Did everything he could to make it harder for Rutgers to succeed, including trying to lead a protest of the NCAA tournament (which would be a time of maximum positive exposure for the school). And where is he now? Nobody outside of this message board has any idea who he is. The movement used him and spit him out. He's the definition of a useful idiot.
Wow is all I can say.

OK- I now understand the differences. Bottom line though, NIL + Revenue share allocated to the players equals what the coach has - with NIL being a variable amount and it is "regulated"
I think I remember Keli saying something like there was in the $14-15 mil range raise in NIL money. And I would have to believe that at least $12 mil out of the 20 RS went to football.

I know other schools have much more NIL but it isn't like we have nothing. And we most likely have close to 10X UMass. And within a couple mil of almost half the B1G schools and most other conferences.

I know we have a ways to go but it is embarrassing to see so many schools in much lessor conferences being ranked and beating ranked teams.
Football received $16MM RS. The other $7-8MM comp is via NIL

A parody on parity in the NIL era really hits home.

The guy who exclaims: "We can solve this with better game planning and preparation."

He obviously is not a Rutgers fan or has never seen Schiano coach a game.

Is Yessir someone who actually understood that the direct school payments to players from the revenue sharing are NIL payments, too?
It's kind of obvious you either dont understand the distinction between the meaning of NIL and revenue sharing OR you are just trying to be a thorn in the side of most people responding to you.

Third-party NIL and school revenue sharing payments come from two different pools of funds. Literally nobody is disputing this. Direct revenue sharing payments from schools to players are also NIL payments; this is what is in dispute and what Cali (and I guess his "insiders") do not understand.
Direct revenue sharing payments are not NIL payments, they are revenue sharing payments. The two are not the same, as I see you've been told like 10 times here.

That much NIL surprises me, but if they got all that, and this is what they get out of it, then that's an absolute failure.
Schiano has failed on multiple levels.Taking 3 months to find a DC is inexcusable.(again}
Apparently his reputation in CFB world is now hurting the program. And the NIL money spent the last 2 seasons on Defense “talent” is a total joke.

Direct revenue sharing payments are not NIL payments, they are revenue sharing payments. The two are not the same, as I see you've been told like 10 times here.

"SEC presidents voted Monday to adopt uniform NIL and revenue-share contracts across the league, effective immediately, sources told CBS Sports.

The SEC joins the Big Ten as the second power conference to adopt standardized athlete contracts. Schools can share up to $21.6 million in revenue directly with athletes this academic year, the second year of the 10-year window under the House v. NCAA settlement. Players received nearly $1.8 billion in direct revenue-share payments during the 2025-26 school year, according to the College Sports Commission.

The SEC's new NIL contract includes customizable sections, sources said, but CBS Sports was not given specifics.

The Big Ten drafted a standardized memorandum of understanding for its schools before the House v. NCAA settlement took effect in July 2025. The template allowed schools to tweak and customize the deals."

"Big Ten schools are asking athletes to sign over their NIL rights, permit universities to sublicense the rights to “any and all third parties,” and surrender any legal claim to employee status as part of the planned revenue-sharing structure, according to a copy of an agreement that was viewed by Sportico.

The seven-page memorandum of understanding includes language that says schools will be reimbursed for some revenue already paid should an athlete transfer to a different school–or even enter the transfer portal–and allows the school to adjust the payment up or down as a reflection of the athlete’s performance. The MOU contains a morals clause; requires the athlete to be in good academic standing to be eligible to receive payments; and explicitly asserts the agreement is not “pay-for-play,” leaving the door open for the deal to be terminated without further payment should the laws change."

"At its core, the MOU is an intellectual property transaction. The school is buying a license to use the athlete’s NIL and the associated right to sublicense the athlete’s NIL to third parties. The athlete accepts they do not gain a right to royalties or additional payments in the event of a sublicense.

The main NIL concession gives schools a license to use an athlete’s “name, nickname, pseudonym, voice, signature, caricature, likeness, image, picture, portrait, quotes, statements, writings, identifiable biographical information, other identifiable features, and any other indicia of personal identity” such as jersey number or social media handle, according to the document. Those rights can be sublicensed to the Big Ten, NCAA or any other third party, and continue after an athlete is no longer at the school, though not for use to sell goods and services. (Athletes can continue to enter personal NIL deals outside this agreement, but those deals must comply with the revenue-sharing MOU and must be reported to the school). "

I like how he posted an article confirming the difference disproving his own position. Someone said he was an attorney lol

Yes, we're very familiar with your stated position that both the SEC model revenue sharing NIL agreement and the Big Ten standard revenue sharing NIL memorandum of understanding have nothing to do with payments from the schools to the players for NIL rights.

What's a country attorney? His record must be worse than Schiano's lol!
Have no clue. It’s what he called himself. Assuming it’s industry terminology for incompetent.

his direct quote:

“Now, granted, I only got my law degree 25 years ago, so I wasn't really taking classes on sports likeness rights. But if I remember correctly, some of my courses (you know, like probably first year contracts) suggested that the EXPRESS LANGUAGE IN THE CONTRACT TERMS could be used to infer what the nature of the contract was focused on. But again, I'm just a simple country lawyer ... perhaps you could use your fancy book-learnin' (as well as your extensive insider contacts) to explain how the Big Ten seven-page model NIL revenue sharing agreement does not concern "rev share going to NIL payments."
