How are we going to be competitive?

Your shtick is hypocritical.

For several years you railed against anybody who dared criticized CJF in any way, shape or form. No internet poster could possibly be intelligent enough to call out some odd decision-making, play-calling and strategies he deployed.

Yet here you are, voicing yourself as the lead pitchfork and torch bearer against CMC.

Glass houses, my friend.
CMC has not blown smoke up his skirt yet!

The hypocritical stuff goes both ways…how about Franklin couldn’t beat any team with a pulse, but the teams we lose to now are good. Or every loss was Franklin’s fault, but now it’s the players fault. See, it goes both ways.
12 more years!

Campbell shares in the responsibility of this dumpster fire. No Penn State coach is above criticism. I just hope we are not sitting here 12 years later with Campbell as the coach and lamenting how he has gone 1-21 in big games.

Another decommit today? There won't be anyone here to play in 12 years.
I posted it in the past as to the demise of college football especially in the northeast. 30 years ago, Syracuse, Boston College, Pitt, West Virginia were all top 25 teams. Those days are gone and Penn State may follow. The south and west have the majority of good high school talent. Tough to convince those kids to play at a northern school. It seems only Only Notre Dame and Ohio State can lure those kids consistently. I won't put Indiana into that category just yet.

State College is a hard sell unless you can keep Pa. kids home and do well in DMV. That' going to be difficult with Franklin in your back yard. From what commentators are saying this Benton LB is a big loss. It's not like the LB room is promising.

There are no big games to lose in the near future. Kraft and Campbell have fixed that problem.

IF they beat them and that’s a big if.
It's a helpless feeling for a coaching staff when you are more than halfway through a season and you can't execute anything consistently. I get what Campbell refers to as "identity. " outside of Northwestern, they play just well enough to lose. One thing for certain, there is no talent gap with any of the remaining opponents. All BS aside, I'll be stunned if they don't win 3 or 4 of these final games.

what makes you think we're going to win small games?
We will but you hope we don't. Pathetic, the fans we have. I so wanted Franklin to succeed. Every one of those miserable big games losses was crushing to me. You just want Campbell to fail. Go get your Hokies tickets!

Purdue has a much better offense than we do - using b1g-only stats for consistency, Purdue has the #3 Offense in the league in terms of both Total Offense and PPG (Points Per b1g Game) - PSU is 13th in Total Offense and 14th in PPG. They both have bottom quartile defenses in league play.

Don't see how PSU wins this game with one of the worst offenses in the Conference and worse yet, a really bad RZ offense only capable of kicking FGs in the RZ when the game is actually on the line (i.e., when the other team isn't playing prevent defense with a multi-score lead to burn clock late in the game).

Purdue is near the top of the Conference in trips to the RZ (tied for 1st in RZ scores with 18) and #2 in RZ TDs scored (12). Meanwhile, PSU is near the bottom of the league in trips to the RZ (tied for 2nd to last) and when they do get there they kick FGs half the time (PSU is tied for last in RZ TDs scored).

Purdue at least has a quality Offense paired with a bad defense - don't see us winning this game with a really bad defense paired with an equally bad mistake-prone offense.

I can't argue with the research you've done. It's been my life experience that games are determined on the field. In high school, we lost a game to a team that had not won a game in years. We were undefeated. It rained for days and the field was muddy with puddles of water. Our opponents were big, fat and slow but fell forward all game and being the smaller, quicker team, we were unable to prevent 3- and 4-yard gains. Lost 6-0. Lost a similar game vs Kutztown in college on a muddy field and trying to stop a plodding and huge fullback. My reasoning is that PSU is the more experienced and talented roster top to bottom and is playing at home. In addition, performance and stats over a 4-game stretch are to be considered but can be turned around. ISU experienced a 4-game losing streak last season (including an inexplicable loss to Colorado and a 41-27 Loss to BYU in a game it led by 7 at halftime, sound familiar?). The remaining PSU players have a pedigree of turning a losing streak into winning as well. My optimism is not long term however. This program is in trouble. Look at the recruiting and the future Big Ten Schedules.

Again you can think that way, I'm not going to stop you.
Imagine giving a HC a roster cut in half and then saying you have less than a year to produce.....it's idiotic. MC may fail, but any moron making that call already is just looking for attention and lack the capacity to see this isn't even a decent PSU roster. It's dark years bad and back then it wasn't due to half the roster bailing it was due to a HC who had such an ego at the end he thought he was too good to actively recruit and people gave him a pass. PSU had to fill it's roster and it's not an overnight fix with how much they replaced. This year isn't a surprise to me at all, but then again I wasn't a moron going around without seeing the team play a single snap and saying 10 wins easy.....dumb people really thought that and NOW they want to light their torches because they were too stupid to know better. They can get bent FWIW.

Optimism for this season was not isolated to this forum. 9 and 10 wins were widely predicated by national analysts as well as the local media types. It's revisionist, cover your *** history to claim 3-4 was expected at this juncture. Popular opinion was this was one of the most experienced rosters in College Football, led by the winningest QB in the business. A blend of the best PSU players and the cream of an 8-4 ISU squad.
All directed by a veritable maestro, a coach who was a massive upgrade in every sense of the word over the guy sent packing. Aided by the weakest schedule we will ever see. 7-5 would have been a major failure.
I'm pretty sure excellence at the highest level is just around the corner.

Good analysis. We'd have lost this game last year too.
