Why not get rid of him now then than give him the chance to get to 6...........Other teams have cut ties w/ their coaches and are already out there shaking the trees for their next coach already and taking applications while we prolong the inevitable.
Hey man, you are aware we still have a winning record right? You realize firing a coach at 4-3 is going to raise the wrong eye brows, particularly the coaches you might want to hire? Have some self-awareness bud.

This will be an unpopular opinion, but I'd rather Lebby and K1 leave than Lebby stay. I have no faith in Jeff Lebby to make Mississippi State a competitive football program.
Our luck is we keep Lebby to keep K1 and K1 leaves anyway with us holding the bag (with a dumb look on our faces as he drives off).

I think I am done with Lebby. I mean injuries are going to happen and you can't rely on one player to determine the outcome of every game. Yes I understand the QB position is the most important, but then again a serviceable backup should be out there when your starter goes down. I am generally in the support coaches until its not viable for the success of the program. I backed Joe Moorhead until his last few games. Honestly, I think Joe was better than Lebby, Joe, yes he failed that first year with probably the most talented group we had, but he also won 2 Egg Bowls. We are looking at Lebby not even being competitve in any Egg Bowl

It all depends on if you reach out to a Jason Eck or the WF head coach and if they are willing to take the job. If you can have a plan in place to get someone like those. You fire lebby at the end of the season or if he loses to Vandy just go ahead and fire him

I realize its been 30 days now since we won anything. I realize we have looked like crap in the last 3 games and gave up 110 points in that span while scoring only 38. I realize we started the season last year at 4-0 just like this year and finished 5-8. I realize with this regime we are 11-21 since he started. I realize he's won 3 and lost 18 against conference opponents and realize we will be underdogs to at least 3 of our final conference opponents this season. I realize 3 other teams have already fired their coaches and are actively looking for replacements while we sit here and debate whether our 2nd, 3rd or 4th string QB should be playing. Aranda record at Baylor was 40-40. Doeren at NC STate was 98-74. Locksley at MD had a losing record, like our coach's record.

And I'm not your "bud"....................

If KT loves State as much as he says and I believe him, it will not matter who the coach is. He might be the reason why we get a really good coach along with some really good transfers.

I'm basing it on the effect doing it would have on the next hire. We had a decent team at the start of the year, those wins just keep looking better. Do you want to make a hire where the guy you want is thinking they will fire me if I'm doing well but then my QB gets hurt?
Your logic would apply if the HC in question has a winning history. In this case, 3-18 sec production with a drastic drop off directly related to 1 guy. We will need to see a very quick turnaround in competitiveness without KT rest of year for people to buy that Lebby truly has SEC HC chops.

Then again, maybe our money people just don't mind indefinite 4-6 win seasons and believe that's our ceiling? It's possible. Would explain a lot of things really.

This is why you aren't in a position to make important decisions. Because you're so wrapped around the axle about Lebby that you can't fathom how firing a coach in his position will hurt us for the long term. Coaches talk, and they don't listen to keyboard warriors. The story they would tell is, "Hey, be careful going there. Their star QB got hurt and they fired the coach with 5 games to go while the team still had a winning record."

And you're right, we're not buds. I apologize. It was easier to type that than dubmass.

Coaches don't think like you or me. They see Lebby having almost turned it around and K1 getting hurt as bad luck. If we canned Lebby now, like the histrionic among us want, coaches would not "see our side" of it. They would see it as a toxic job where one run of bad luck gets you fired. I know no one here wants to hear, "Lebby inherited a terrible situation." I get that. But that's exactly how the coach you want views it.

what do you do? In a vacuum before the season, I thought he would be safe with 6 but how the season has played out - I have zero faith that Lebby is a long term answer.
Fact:

IF they reach 6-6, he will be given another year. That’s unfortunate but it will happen and, as mentioned numerous times, the injury card will be played. The powers-that-be will repeat this mantra while ignoring the fact that there are so many more legitimate reasons to terminate the contract. Those reasons being continued bad playcalling, bad recruiting, and bad evaluations.

Lebby has been given ample time to show what he can do. He lucked into a once-in-a-lifetime talent and failed to build a wall around him to protect him. That is why we are where we currently are: reliving the 2025 season of having high hopes dashed upon the rocks below.

6 wins will get him another year. The staffs terrible job of evaluating, and signing players won’t get them any further without a major turn around. Except for the WR room. Whoever is responsible for that is doing an outstanding job.

Ai says State would owe Lebby $7.5m if fired December 1. Is someone willing to put that up?

Im thinking if he finishes 6-6.... State retains him to retain Taylor. Then find a couple of $million to find some lineman instead of a buyout.

Then when Taylor is gone after 2027, you can cut bait.

Perhaps. I think they have eyes beyond 4 KT Ws and can see big picture though. If the coaching profession is filled with guys that believe they are entitled to free passes from injuries and that MSU should be patient with 3-18, possibly soon to be 3-22 conference records, then I suppose we're just 17ed. I don't think there are many other programs out there where fans are told they should just accept that? Maybe I'm naive?

That said, we are still a couple more sec games premature in the final assessment. I think he does get a grace period for losing a generational QB talent mid season. KT is that good. Sucks losing the 3 that followed the injury, but a good HC will get it turned around and should have us getting back into these games after the initial shock to the system and game plan. If he loses the team and can't get these guys competing in this 2nd half stretch after the initial bad luck, you have to stop feeling sorry for him and start questioning what kind of HC he really is. A huge part of the job is responding to adversity and contingency planning.

I think the only way you make a move after 6-6 is if you truly have a better coach lined up. For example, if you have Dan Mullen on the hook, you almost have to make the move. He's a proven winner, and it will inject new optimism in the fan base and the NIL donors.

He hasn't learned simple things, like take points early in games on the road. His 4th down go for it always mentality and our putrid success rate at it tell me he doesn't learn some lessons. Sometimes scoring a filed goal after a long drive is as much about getting something positive out of it as it is about points.
He is to analytics focused. Like I get it he understands the “fancy” “new” smart approach to coaching; the problem is that he’s not smart enough to appropriately apply the analytics.

Personally I don't want a coach that is worried they will get fired if they can't deliver results. There are type A personality coaches that are confident enough in their ability that they think they will be successful no matter what. I doubt it ever crossed Cignetti's mind that he could get fired if he didn't produce. Now can we find that guy, is obviously the question.

Coaches definitely don’t think like you. Any coach you would want is convinced he could win here like Mullen and to an extent Leach did. He knows he's better than those other bums.

"1 run of bad luck" ? Is that what you define a 3 year failure in the era of NIL roster/team building? How long does this "run of bad luck" have to go on before he gets it fixed or we can fire him then?
I know your reading comprehension is dog **** but let me put it in crayon for you, the short bus rider: I’m saying this is how coaches think. Not me. But coaches. They don’t follow every game of ours. They don’t see State as a great location but just as a possible stepping stone to a better job. They see Lebby as someone who might be on the cusp of turning around a cellar dweller and got sidetracked by injures. You can’t get out of own fandom and see that people in the coaching profession don’t see it like you do.

You mean like someone who would ask players their ring sizes?

I wonder if any of the six 1st year head coaches who have a worse record this season than Lebby does now think like you say they do?

These dudes have agents and advisors as well. They are in their ear saying stuff like this.

We may very well be the only SEC job that opens up this cycle and that’s a rare position to be in. There’s a world that exists where FSU, USC, etc don’t make moves and we are the best available job in America. If Selmon is half the AD we want to believe he is, that has to be a factor in the decision at 6-6

I think it boils down to the Egg Bowl. Win 6 and put up fight v OM and he probably gets extended. Win 6 and get skull drug by OM and maybe Keenum makes Salmon pull the plug.
We are getting skull drug. No doubt about it. If anyone thinks we put up a fight in Oxford with this team... it might be so bad that the DOJ starts an investigation into whether Arnette had a side deal with OM.

Yes, this is coming. I hear people on here say that they could care less what OM is doing. All I can say is they must live in a very different part of the state than I do. Living 40 minutes from Oxford has been terrible the last 7 years. This fan base was arrogant when they won 5 - 6 games per year, it is off the charts now.

My marker is Egg bowl. If we get skull drug in the egg bowl, regardless if he has six wins, he needs to go. That offense can score points, our defense won't stop them. And our offense can't score points right now. He really just needs to go. He is inept at his job and gets paid multi-million dollars a year. Don't kill the messenger, just being a realist.

One run of bad luck???? The guy has sucked donkey balls for three years. No good coach will come work for him. Can't recruit. Has brain block on making in-game decisions. Makes terrible roster decisions. And is generally lost. This predicament isn't caused by one run of bad luck
